Hi, asking for a Honda CB400 similar bike, also Honda naked. I need to remove and replace the front brake switch (located at the right handle) and its connecting cable, cos the connection point has rusted.

I know how to remove the brake switch but the question is on the cable - where does the cable ends?

My guess is that it ends inside the headlight and this cable is also tied together with the engine kill switch cable, so if change one cable I must change whole set together. True?

(In case anyone wondering, the front brake switch I'm referring is the front brake lever switch. The one that press on/off to turn off/on the brake light)

Cos the cables' connector's are also rusty, so thinking of changing the cable when changing the switch.

Anyway just now I went to open up kill switch cover to see how's the wiring inside. KNS inside all soldered together - one fat cable with ends soldered to the kill switch and ignition button, and this fat cable is tied to the brake cable using another rubber housing, so die die must change whole set + desoldering.

I give up. Cut the connector off, expose new fresh wires and going to buy a new switch later. Hopefully bike shop got new connectors also, else wire have to solder onto switch? ... solder wire onto switch good or bad?

Btw my bike more than 10 years old liao, so rust here rust there. :)

i tink the wires wud be okay.. if u rly want, trace to whr the wiring is connected.. then tap 2 new wires and direct straight to ur new switch.. basically bypassing the old circuit... solder is okay (better actually if d soldering is done well), but if u need to disassemble ur RHS switch for diagnosis in d future, might be abit troublesome.. i wud go wif connectors...

Yeah, I'm now going with the connector but ... the connectors aren't the usual type.

Usual type is the straight type - just insert and crimp it. Brake switch type is different - it's inserted 90 deg and crimp it... harder to find.

Most jia lat thing is bike shop no have, not even usual ones, so have to go Sim Lim Tower to find. No time leh...

p.s. I bought a new switch. 8 bucks. Boss nice enough to give me 2 cable with connectors on it, so temporary just twist wired with black tape.

Common push on (lucar) terminal. Not very usual as terminal are exposed.

Slightly better as fully insulated.

Finally found the 90 deg type, call it flag terminal, anyone seen this selling locally here?

I am not sure what bike you riding but I ever pry open up a brake switch of a honda foresight 250 to sand the rusty contact as I am not willing to pay an exorbitant asking price the dealer wants. After that I just tape it up to prevent water from going in again.
