I only put 1 coating. the paint will wear off after sometime.

Quite difficult to spray at the top end.

With great Power, comes great responsibility.

To prevent rusting of exhaust pipe, I found the following to be the best preventive measure:-

Upon getting a bike (best if new), dismantle the exhaust. Next pour motor oil into the exhaust and shake it. Pour out the excess oil. Assemble back the exhaust. Then take the bike for a long fast ride. This is to heat up the exhaust. The oil in the exhaust will then form a hard layer of protective carbon inside the exhaust. In this way the exhaust will last a long long time (> 5 years). However, take note that this method will create a lot of smoke in the beginning so beware of the TPs.....

And oh, the above mentioned method is not recommended for 2-stroke bikes and scooters!!!! Cos it will clog up the exhaust!!

If your bikes are like mine, the gasket is actually high-temp sillicone paste. You can buy a tube of it from most hardware stores for abt $6 i think . Make sure it's high-temp sillocone!

As for the high-temp spray, you can get it from a bikeshop or a hardware shop. Even Handifix has it...but it's really pricey there. $11 a can for the RJ brand.

all respectable spray paint brands have some kind of high-temp paint, usually in matt black, for obvious reasons

any hardware shop should have. but for exhaut headers, dun really need to bother, the rust will definitely come back, best is to go for chrome/stain-tune coating..

for mufflers still not so bad.

Wat's the effect of having rusty exhaust?

If the rust gets really bad ur metal will corrode and a hole will appear in no time...then u will lose power because ur compresion drops...that is what happen to my KIPS...had to get it mend back and spray with high temperature paint...it did last a little longer bout 6 months before it got bad again...then juz sand down and spray again...

Can anyone please advise me if there is a place I could send my exhaust for rechroming? Is there such a process. A friend just rode on my bike and fell.

Please advise.

Mine around 3 month since the last respray together with the whole bike, think need to spray it again before i sell my bike. So whats the conclusion after 5 pages of discussion in this thread?

Hi-temp spray?

or

Rust master + HI-temp spray

or

bbq pit spray alone

or

some other combination?
