Help needed: Purchase of New Yamaha FZ 8 N

Hi guys,

 

I'm planning to buy a brand new yamaha FZ8N. I have recently been to 2 places - Hong Leong and other bike shops. I am a first time buyer so i have quite a few questions here and i hope that you all could provide me with some guidance.

 

 

Hong Leong quoted me 20300 OTR with 5% interest per annum while other bike shops quoted me 18000 OTR with 4% interest per annum.

 

1) May i know why is there such a big difference in terms of price? Is it because the bikes from other bike shops is not imported from Japan but other countries?

 

2) Also, any other reliable shops to recommend other than these 2 which have reasonable price and low interest rates?

 

3) Other bike shops does not provide IU unit, which means i have to install it myself after i buy the bike. Where can i go and install?

normally OTR price equals to,

 

firstly the machine price, followed by COE, Insurance, Compulsory 6 months road tax, IU unit, and LTA registration fees..

 

try to look for any freebies threw in, double confirm warranty period, ask clearly what's included in the warranty..

 

since you're asking for loan, check if one day you intend to sell bike to another, can next owner coi on your behalf..would there be any extra fees if you wanna do early repayment..double check what's the rate of the interest and how would it be calculated upon early repayment if possible..

 

i believe there are some threads out there guiding bike buyers buying first hand bikes..just that now i can't find it..

Oh i see.. hmm then are there any good bike shops to recommend? Cos i just went to other bike shop they don't seem to have any accessories to throw in since they claim they only buy/sell motorcycles

Do scout around, wait for the 2012 model if there any. There's 3-5 bike shops along Serangoon Road, Changi Road, Kaki Bukit, Ubi, Bukit Merah.

 

You can always buy new (slim) IU at Vicom centre.

 

Don't restrict to one model, open your option eg, Honda, Aprilia, Suzuki, MV Agusta, Yamaha, BMW, HD, Triumph.

 

View review from YouTube for your prefered bike type, eg Sportsbike, Naked, Adventurer, Cruiser

gagas..TS, how much you know about new bikes..like running in into new engine..what are the do and don'ts..because this is a big bike..so i guess you've been buying used bikes previously..one big difference about new and used is your future..future of how fast can you do..with a high revv running in would definitely cause your engine to fail faster than you expect..did you get a price break down from them?best to find you insurance all this..as bike on loan they probably would get you the best..

 

btw gotta change, not really accessories and i think you shouldn't accept even if they throw in because no bike shop would ever throw in a gear indicator or what expensive things..but i believe your stock bike has all accessories that you need..maybe a add-on volt meter can bargain price..

 

did they say that they would give you something like 3 regular servicing or till 20,000km something like that..remember what EO you need to have for a new engine and get a better coolant..as yours is a big bike try to change to iridium spark plug..all these can be bargained..

Thanks guys! Anyway i found global motor which quoted 16.2 for machine price and 3% interest P.a. good deal!

 

If i change my stock exhaust to after market exhaust, will the warranty be voided immediately?

what the!?!??! cool! you saved a lot..be more generous on the EO and levers..handle bar and mirrors patching..

 

hahas..you've gotta ask the shop..believe the shop would also sell AM exhaust..

 

edit 1 : wait wait wait, bro, does it include compulsory road tax, insurance, registration fees, and most importantly COE..did you get the warranty period and what are included in the warranty..very important..new things do fail too..hope its not yours, but better to be safe then sorry..

TROLLLLLLOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL..no wonder they quote machine price and not OTR price..TS, please really do check warranty period and all those mentioned above..i know it might be kinda long but i experienced it before..i would rather you take a pen and a paper and list down what you need to ask, from machine warranty all the way to OTR price, installment breakdown and details..better to have a bike later by 1 week than to suffer for next few years..

The other shop maybe shorter warranty. But all big bike come from same factory because quantity very small. Not like Cup Kia.

Bro im a fz8s rider too. My advice,take your time to ask around and than decide.Few months ago, as i too eager to buy 1 and did not read the contract wisely, end up have to top up balanced 1.3k for the coe as the bike shop quote me a nice price but only cover $800 for COE. The bike will immediately when purchased under warranty for 1 year unless u do illegal Mod to it. Thus ask around for the better price and dont be rush.Gd luck.

Shd be around 18.7k to 19.5k ba..around the this range. and of cos this amount varies on your age.

Buy the IU unit from vicom. It will then be registered to your vehicle number. Aft which you can bring to any motordiam and install. IU costs $150 IIRC.

I cant say that on the forum where i purchased that.lolx. Bike Production shd have a better price...but the problem u have to get the IU urself.And the price they quote does not include IU and insurance.Drop by their forum here to give u a quotation. Sure there a different in price on 2011 and 2012 model.Its only the colour and exhaust only.

I dont think changing to legal exhaust will void the warranty.It state illegal mod to the engine only. And if u dont use their yamalube(their engine oil).consider void too....toopid rite..lolx

I bought mine. Fz8s in 2010. Total include insurance 20500 from Hong leong. Price quoted is always coe expected so if go up must top up. All yamaha bike regardless from Hong leong warranty by hong leong. But sure can get better price elsewhere. I bought because first big bike wanted peace of mind. So dealer straight. Survey then decide. All the best
