Hello all! Its my first posting after I started eyeing at sports bikes and many other threads.

There are a few things that I am still unsure of...

Firstly, I was thinking of getting either of KRR150, CBR150 or NSR150SP... Gonna use it for transportation around campus and on tour.

I know KRR and NSR is about 10 years and running on 2 piston engine, which could be costly to maintain. So, I was thinking of getting CBR150.

1) Is NSR and KRR that bad when it comes to second hand?

2) And, if I have no friends riding bike ( I guess I am pretty nerdy :/ ), where can I get help when testing if the bike is okay?

3) I know 2B p-plate has insurance range starting from 700~900+ ( saw on one of the threads ), so, can I expect about 1000 for CBR? I have 0 years of riding experience and still 19.

4) Transfer + road tax + other costs should sum up to about 400, am I getting right?

5) CBR150 seems to have rough price range of 2500+ for ones with COE 4 years remaining or greater. Am I tracking right price range?

6) I am estimating my budget to be around 6k and I guess that should be more than enough since 1000 + 400 + 2500 = about 4000 or more.

Thank you for your replies and hope to join one of the outings!! :) safe and happy riding!

Transportation? Just buy any 4stroke bike will do.. Your insurance will kill you.. Sure more than 1k or 1.2k. Get someone who is experienced and help you out. Ask yourself, you wan change to bigger bike? if yes, just get any bike will do. No need buy a high-end bike since you're changing.. Your budget 6k?? 6k enough for you to buy most of the bike for full cash.. IF you like sporty bike and wan save petrol why dont get R15 or R125? Just my 2 cent. Anyway, is your $$, buy what you like. You won't want to regret when you bought the bike you doesn't even like right?

As much as getting a bike is concerned, try getting a bike that will last long enough for your transportation needs. And better if you atleast know what you're getting. Like spending wise on maintenance etc of the bike in question.

Still the same old advice. You should own the bike, and not the other way round. Just make sure your budget covers everything that you had planned for.

2nd hand buys might be something of a lottery.

If you got a good one, then congrats. :)

Else, you will need to spend some good $$$ to bring it up to standard. Some might be bottomless pit.

Those SP and KRRs that you mentioned are >10 years already. It will be difficult to find that one has been thrashed, crashed or both at some point in their lives. :)

If you intend to upgrade to 2A, then dont spend too much on your 1st bike.

Just get something reliable.

If you buy from the shops, please check and re-check what you intend to buy against the final bill.

You dont want to be surprised by some of the 'hidden' charges on the receipt.

P platers are like a brightly lit neon sign that says 'please carrot me'. :) Many of us have been down that sad road. :)

To TS,

I think for a start just get a cheap 2nd hand bike will do. best is Wave or x1... cheap n good, easy to maintain. Insurance i not sure for you. best is always start from the lowest 1st(price), cos in future you might upgrade to 2A,2...den you wont lose alot $ on yr 1st bike....

I just got myself a X1 problem free after 3 months, really enjoying riding after 10 years of stopping. For me, is purely transport to work and soccer games nia. 1 week pump 1 time $7max. F#$king cheap, compare to my car easily $100 per week , 2 years back.
