experienced this kind of situation before on my previous bike fixed w/ voltmeter as well

for my case, it wasnt because the wires were tapped wrongly. after getting some grounding done, the fluctuating of the voltmeter reading was greatly reduced

my voltmeter only show me a 10v when start than riding time reach 12v my batt is new so is tt any problem because i see lots of people say the voltmeter reading when riding is at 13.5

u can try connecting voltmeter across ur new batt. if it still show 10v, either u need change ur voltmeter or ur bike charging system needs to be checked.

batt/rectifier/wiring system and lastly coil. all this is kinda related.

The best way to connect it is(After some debating with my friends)

Connecting it to the rectifier..This will show u a proper working rect..

Connecting to the headlight will show a voltage drop as the headlight consumes power..Connecting it to the ingition fuse will how show that the rect if working as the voltmeter will show reading for the whole circuit and would move as long as ur coil moves(After starting ur bike)

The downside of connecting to the rect is that it's a live connection..So u need to add a switch to turn it off..

Connect to your voltmeter to your battery directly through a relay's NO. Then connect the coil of the relay to your ignition fuse to trigger the relay. In that case, your voltmeter will measure the voltage of your battery, which i feel is the most accurate, and it will only turn on the voltmeter when you turn on your ignition. Hope this helps..
