My younger cousin have an issue which i find it very ridiculous.. After paying off his last higher purchase instalment, he was told by the clerk that his bike plate have to be surrendered when the shop need it.. The shop will then replace him with a new no plate.. Can anyone here explain to me weather this make any scenes?? The bike left 2 more yrs of COE..

Bro, Take a look at the bike registration Log Card. When ur bro purchase the bike, does the shop inform ur brother about it. Or does ur bro sign any paper stating tat the plate number doesn't belong to him. Of course it doesn't belong to him but belong to the bike tat he purchase. Log card shown very clearly tat the bike number belong to the owner of the bike. So when the bike shop want to play dirty, just report it to LTA. Or if u want to sell the number plate to the shop, just state ur price whether the shop agree or not. Tat all.

be a smart rider, don't rush:cool:

Unless there is a prior agreement between the buyer and seller who the plate belongs to, the licence plate is understood to belong to the person whose name it is registered under. Check whether your cousin signed on anything that says that he needs to surrender the licence plate back.

If he is sure that there is no such agreement, the next thing that needs to be done is to ensure that the bike is "released" to your cousin. Bikes under hire purchase are not allowed to be transferred without the approval of the finance company. Upon the completion of the installments, the finance company is supposed to release the bike so that the owner owns the bike fully without any links to the finance company.

This can be one of the tactics that the said bike shop will attempt. Usually when you go back to the bike shop to ask for the release, they will list down the terms and conditions for your bike to be released. Most of the time, people will just agree to them due to the frustrations.

Apparently, this tactic is being used by many shops. I had wanted a plate for my bike during my purchase. The shop offered to "rent" it to me. As I didn't understand what it meant by rent, they explained that I need to give the plate back upon completion of installments. I didn't take the offer, and after some negotiations, I still got the plate for free. :)

Returner- Its the sister company SM*t*ring.. They play dirty by not letting giving him a copy to refer.

when my cousin call LTA they say clearly the plate belongs to the bike, not the shop. Maybe my cousin should play with the shop and tell them he sold the bike.. See what is their response.. Owner VS Shop.. See who wins..

1) Its just number plate, if nothing special they want just let them lor. what difference does it make? Unless its some special number that can potentially make money if sold by shop or you find special. In which case:

2) If you finish hire purchase and ownership fully transferred to you and no contract saying the number belongs to them, just heck care. no need cook story. you say 'no' what can they do? they cannot repo a bike where you are now the listed owner, thats theft on their part.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Find the agreement letter if any for the terms if you have signed. Once the bike is yours, its YOURS!
