Why may I ask? Is your bike making sounds/Old?

periodic maintenance. just like you don't change engine oil only when your engine is making noises/old or do you? i do open up and grease the brake/clutch lever, side / center stand, wheel axle etc. just being a bit anal:cheeky:

back to the point, i read stories of sized swingarm pivot. here one. you can find hundreds of such stories. so it set me thinking of greasing it although i have not heard of any swingarm pivot problem personally. maybe people are not aware of it even if it happen?

Is your swing arm an old school twin shock type or monoshock progressive link type? :thirsty:

not too sure of the different. i am riding a spark so it should be monoshock type. i read that it is possible to remove the swingarm pivot axle without removing the rear wheel and monoshock linkage. going to give it a try. 2B bike is much lighter so i guess it should be easier.

btw, nice doggy:shy:

finally took the time to undertake the project last night. the project took me almost 2.5hours and a lot of sweat. haha...

remove the front sprocket cover and axle nut. tried pushing the axle bolt out but it feel tight. so i took a hammer and use a long pin to slowly knock the bolt out. doesn't take too much force to move the axle bolt.

after getting 3/4 of the bolt out, the long pin i use to knock the axle bolt is not lengthy enough and i still cannot pull the remaining axle bolt out after trying. in the end, i decide to just grease what i can and knock the bolt back. after greasing, i begin to knock the bolt back into the swing arm axle and this is where trouble started:cry:

the main body and swing arm axle bolt holes is out of aligment!!! no matter how i try to position the swing arm, i can't move the axle bolt at all. i was worry and thinking of asking someone to help next morning after trying for more then 30 mins:cry:

totally dejected and tired from the effort. finally in a last desperate attempt, i decide to down the rare wheel and try again. ah....!!! and that the secret!!! after dropping the rare wheel, i can slide the axle bolt in and out easily with my hand!!!:sian: so i was laboring and hammering away which i guess woken up half the neighborhood for nothing(soory:cheeky:). i took out the axle bolt, clean up the sleeve bearing as much as i can, grease all parts with a decent amount of grease and reassemble everything nicely:thumb:

finally, after all the effort do i still think the swing arm axle needed to be grease? the axle bolt and bearing is absolutely bone dry when i took it out. i wonder do they grease it in the first place. the axle bolt has wear till all the chroming on the contact surface is gone. i can see some rust and wear on the sleeve bearing. my bike is only 2 years old and the condition is already bad.

maybe due to being a small bike, yamaha have use sleeve bearing instead of needle bearing which is not a good thing. i glad i took the effort to complete the project. hope that my wheel or swing arm doesn't came loose while riding:cheeky:
