I am looking to buy a second hand class 2 bike. I am not personally an expert at checking out the condition of the bike especially things like the chain, brakes, suspension forks, engine valves etc. Is there any garage that would help to do the inspection? I find the owner doesnt seem to have any service history to share. So wanted to have the bike checked before committing to the purchase.

If the owner agree, go to a motor shop, ask their help and bear the cost.  You could tell them what you wanted to check or prepare a check list for them.

Attachment is a check list template for your reference.  Or you could google "Checklist for Buying a Used Motorcycle" for your own list.

PS,  the COE is too damn high,  buying a second-hand Class 2 motorcycle may not be a good idea unless just wants to hold for a short term.  Do a math for the holding cost first.

Thank you very much magicj. Very useful advice. Like your range of bikes. I have an HD roadster right now. Wanted to add a Honda, but I take your point on the COE. What is a reasonable holding cost for a class 2 Honda in your view?

Most of the time the owners will refused to go bike shop as it's time consuming.. about 1-2 hours.

so it's best that you take videos/ photos.. starting bike and etc.. but again.. this eventually also depending on the bike shop that you know.. best to get someone to ride the same bike to go down with you.. (again, time consuming for your friend).. so learn as much as you can.. haha..

Chian, suspension brake.. engine sound.. try to learn and see what you can see and hear..

chain = rusty etc got sound while riding.

suspension = is it too bouncy? while you going over a bump.. does it goes up down.. or up down up down up down.. haha.. up down up down (MAX) anything more then 2 times = suspension too bouncy..  Hard is normal as you can control your bike easier.

brake.. see how much is left.. any rusty at the brake areas, entire bike look for signs of rust.. body frame/side stand might be common.. but the rest of the bike is not.. Brackets maybe rusty also.. but depending on what it holds..

engine sound - hard to advise.. any weird metal against metal sound.. or just exhaust.. if just exhaust ok.. metal against metal is NOT.. Dun need to consider.. unless the bike original price is 20k (market rate selling same price with same remaining amount of years), sell you 5k, can consider, cuz you need to rebuilt.. or you better off buying another bike.. :)

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...
