Can register a motorbike under your name first, before buying a COE later?

I'm interested to bid COE by myself but not sure what is the exact process to do the transfer. Scare later cannot find a good deal of coe-less motorbike

to register it with LTA for off-road use, chk with LTA.

but u might not be able to change the registration later to on-road use (with COE).

easiest way is to buy it from wkshop but get them to store/park it in their premises until you get COE and register it the normal way. Write up a contract accordingly. i don't think can park at HDB if unreg.

just record the chassis, mileage on odometer etc.

there may not be a need to do that, there's plenty of stocks around now. In my opinion, its easier and better to bid the COE first, or wait till the price is what you want, before registering the bike. There's very little reason to register the bike first, unless its a very rare model that no one else has

Good to hear that, Boonlow! Just curious, any tips when it comes to securing a coe-less bike from the dealers? Heard that they jack up the price if you don't want coe and loan from them.

I guess it also depends on the make and model. All businesses have to make a profit somewhere somehow. Whether you take up a loan with them, have a trade-in bike , or simply a total cash outlay purchase will determine the final selling price. Not forgetting they still have to give 1-2 years warranty after sales. Bike price (especially 2B) are essentially much lower, so the profit to play with for retailers is actually very thin. The good thing for us as consumers, is we have a choice as there are many dealers out there. So we can shop and compare up to our heart's content. Recently, I wanted to buy a Royal Alloy bike. I put down a deposit, agreed on the maximum price of COE I am willing to pay, and wrote everything down on paper. When the COE price went higher than that, they rang me and asked whether I wanted to top-up. I said no and they refunded me 100% of my deposit in about a week's time. I thought that is easier to manage than trying to buy bike/COE separately and go through the hassle of doing all the paper work yourself.
