@dineze Most of my revs at 830am. Slightly cheaper. Few times at 430pm also. Ive tended to avoid the evening/night sessions as my night vision isnt so sharp + too many beginner drivers. I normally do 3 rounds full circuit. Then after that 1 F8/crank for every 3-4 plank/slalom.

My rr on the 26th & 28th will be at 650pm slots. Which evening/night are you next down? I suppose we can do a few revs together.

I'm waiting for my rtt first in early feb and then my tp date before going for any more revisions. As for me the queues have been shorter at the fig 8 and plank courses at night (8+).

I do them continuously without following the course route to force as many errors and then learn from the mistakes. I only followed the route in the circuit revision (first slot) just before my prac 8 to practise the blindspot checking etc.

I took one rr before prac 8 and had an i.f (beat blinking arrow) but did okay for the test. Really depends on thr other road users on that day.

woo JrCherish grats on ur 2A!

Haa plank strikes again!, usual suspect in 2b heh, stealth123, at least u done with circuit for now, time to enjoy road lesson, after lesson 7 spent one or 2 cr focusing more on plank.

@JrCherish - thanks man. Very happy & relieved to pass it. So, looking forward to your S4 already yes? Very nice engine sound.

@Stealth123 -congrats on your passing L5. 4 pts mean youre somewhere in the 5sec bracket for plank. Just a bit more to go. Attend some more revisions & keep plugging at it. You will eventually get it. Trust me. You can do it! Enjoy your road lessons bro. Enjoy the faster speeds & cool breeze blowing at you as you ride.

Any tip for prac 6?

Going for nxt tuesday prac

Nothing much in terms of riding skill but heck a lot of procedural stuff to follow. Very long briefing before you go out. Recall also what you learnt in L2.

1)Correct Forming up. When to form up single file or pairs. Single road arrow = pairs. 2 or more road arrows = single file. Form up in pairs at the cdc zebra crossing if there are pedestrians.

2)Avoid crossing chevron lines. There are 2 in the Tai Seng Industrial area & 1 when you come bk to school & face the blind wall junction.

3) Filter lanes. Check blindspot as you approach & enter the filter lane. Stop if there are pedestrians or cyclist crossing or going to cross the zebra crossing. ALWAYS give way to pedestrians & cyclists. proceed if there arent any. Check traffic coming from your right. Stop at give way line if there is, then chk bk right & left blindspot & move off when safe. If no traffic then chk left blindspot jus before you exit the filter lane. All filter lanes with give way line at the end form up single file. Unless if it is a filter lane with a stop line at the end, form up in pairs. Most of the time the pedestrians will be at the filter lane at the Breadtalk building there.

4)Lane changing procedure - mirror, signal, blindspot chk, proceed if safe.

5)Amber lights & flashing green arrows - stop. DO NOT PROCEED. Only allowed to proceed if you have already exceeded the stop line when amber lights come on or green arrow flashes.

6)Turning pockets. Long turning pockets can fit 3-4 bikes or 1 car & at most 2 bikes. Short turning pockets- 2 bikes or 1 car. If no space, do not enter. Judge the space available. Your rear wheel must not encroach into the pedestrian crossing at all times. When starting to moving out from a turning pocket - chk bk right & blindspot of the direction of the turn. ie if right turn, chk bk right before moving off & right blindspot as you start to move.

7)Safety check - chk bk right or away from kerb or away from chevron line. Chevron lines is to be taken as a kerb.

8)Stop lines. MUST STOP. No such thing as when youre approaching the stop line & see no oncoming traffic, you proceed on.

This is abt as much as my old brain can remember abt L6.

stealth123,

My problem with the plank was i could not get used to riding on a narrow & elevated surface. It made me nervous & always the fear of falling off. Funny thing was the more i feared dropping off, the more i dropped off. I had no problems with riding at crawling speeds on flat surfaces but could never translate that ability to the plank. Psychological blockage perhaps.

This might help if youre hvg similar problems- Notice from your starting position to the plank to the slalom cones is but 1 straight line? Whether the plank is there or not, it does not change that line in anyway. So the plank is but an illusion if you will. The plank is inconsequential. So all you do is to just focus on that straight line & ride on it (line).

Problems with slow speed riding? Practice riding behind a beginner driver. (at a safe distance of course). Or the straight stretch of road from blindwall junction leading to the plank area, just move towards kerb side & practice riding as slow as possible in 1st gear. See if you can manage 10km/h or less w/o having to put your foot down.

I took L4 5 times. 3 successful planks in abt 30 tries in total. Took L5 6 times. plank killed me 4 times. Took many many revisions to overcome my plank problems. Last week i did a 10.2 sec plank during revision. Not trying to boast, but just to show you what is possible if youre willing to put your heart & soul into practice. So if I eventually did it, no reason or excuse why you cant. You CAN do it!

We will discuss methods if you want to know more abt them.

Plank. 2 things to remember. Point the front wheel towards the center of the plank. Rev more and use rear brake to control speed.

thanks jpdoggy and rijac.

Despite me telling my head to keep eyeline far and hug the fuel tank, i realised that there are times when i just lose balance - and once that happens, it's very hard to recover from that. Lost of balance can happen anywhere on the plank.... shortly after I'll fall off.

My worry is that I fall off during the TP test... being a IF, that would be a bummer.

Guess like what jbdoggy said, secret to solving that is loads of practice. Riding behind cars in the circuit ... haha, yes i know that's a real test of balance! :p

On a brighter note, I passed my RTT today.. :) one step closer to that 2B license...

Chk your book & see if they chop L5 completed or not.

Is it the case that this is your 5th or more attempt & no IF? If so, most probably they gv chance & let you go. But note, you have to do more revisions to cut down your demerits. Refer to your result sheet(s) & take note of all the areas where you kena pts & work on them during revisions.

I just got my 2b license, passed TP on 21jan. At first I thought that getting class 2b is much easier than class 3 but i was wrong when i started my practical. Compare to driving, riding has more factors that will affect your riding, ie physical and physiological. You need strength to support, balance and steer. Unlike car, you're likely to fall when you mount curb. I have learnt a lot during my 2b course, maybe i shall share some of my humble experience.

IMO, riding is all about man and machine. Be one with the machine and control the machine. Don't let the machine controls you. I believe once I have conquered my machine, there will be less thing to worry about. So i spent most of my time in circuit than road. So why risk my life and money on the road if I can't ride well and keep focusing on your bike(ie, biting point, gear shifting, throttle control) instead on the road condition and situation? Total, I booked 4 road revisions for my L8 & TP but 9 circuit revisions.

After my L1-4 and some revision, I thought I am good enough for the L5, circuit evaluation, but I was overconfident. It took me 5th attempt to clear L5. My problem lies with the plank course. I thought that I'm equipped with the skill to clear it but I was wrong. Upon my 1st failure I used to think it's due to my nervous problem esp. when instructor's looking at me. But until my 2nd failure, I realized I lack the skill too. I've learnt that I didn't throttle enough when going up the plank and always on and off the throttle to control the speed instead of using my rear brake. Well, 3rd attempt I was too tense up and my body was too stiff to balance and my 4th attempt, I hit a cone during my slalom. Thanks to all this mistakes I made, I put more effort in the circuit to hone my skill.

After happily completed my L6-7, I went back for more circuit revision as I felt that there's still something wrong with my riding. Though I can complete all the circuit courses but I wobbled during crank, plank, slalom and at slow speed, 5-10km/hr.

So during the circuit revision, I rode at the bike parking bay to learn more about the bike. I learnt that bike won't stall when the throttle is off, even at 2nd gear, unless you brake to kill the engine. So I rode around the parking bay with 1st gear to improve my balance. When comes to the plank, I just throttle up the plank and turn my throttle off. All I do is look straight ahead and relax while my bike and body will do its job, MAGIC... Slight throttle if the bike wobble. I felt more comfortable with the throttle control technique than depending on the rear brake.

I also do lot of Fig8 and slalom practice at the bike parking bay. I've learnt the throttle control technique for slalom and crank which i felt it's much better than constant throttle and rear brake technique. Well, I will make a simple explanation on it. As you guys know that bike will try to keep upright when you throttle, so just throttle up to speed up the process of bringing up the bike after a bend. Off the throttle before the bend will lighten the bike when steering as gravity will help to bring down the bike. XD I did a lot of silly exercises at the parking bay to improve my throttle control and balance. Like riding round and round a cone or marking at very slow and fast speed. Leaning my bike as low as possible at 1st gear and throttle up to jerk up my bike when the bike almost falling. Try to do the fast and slow slalom & fig8. IMO riding fast doesn't mean you are good, riding slow through the obstacles is much more challenging than riding fast.

After all this hardship, I am glad that I am still in one whole piece even though I had a bad fall at e-brake. XD All this hardship does pay off, I managed to clear my L8 and TP with one attempt.

Hey, first of all... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! :) :) :)

How is it on the TP test itself? U wait at the bench and wait your turn? How many folks are taking test on the same day?

I can imagine myself panic sweating while waiting my turn... :p

Thanks!! Stealth123

Woke up damn early in the morning as the warm up lesson starts at 7.15am. I didn't get plenty of sleep due to insomnia XD Reached there at 7.10am. Then waited for a while, the instructor came and asked for our pdl, IC & recipe. Then gotta sign on the nominal role with your test number beside your name. I got my number, 21. After that, I proceed to the training shelter to get my number tag. After that, we went for warm up in the circuit. There're 50 testee but less than 50 bikes so some of them gotta wait at the zebra crossing for the bike. It's just a round of circuit warmup, no road warmup. After warmup, instructor will break us up into rows. Each row will have 5 testees. Each row will be assigned with a tester. The tester will be the one who will give you the test result. When my tester came, he asked for my NRIC no. then returned me my pdl and ic. After that can proceed to the shelter and wait for the test. Well... While waiting, I gotta keep calm myself down as I getting nervous look at the 1st 20 testee doing the circuit test. The test is just like L8 except you will be going out the circuit alone. Also all the testees will be spread out in the way that you won't see another testee in front of you waiting or doing the course. As usually there will be class 3 learner in the circuit. During my test, the circuit and road wasn't that crowded. After the test just chill around till 11am, then proceed to lv3 room 9 and wait for your tester come in. Just prey that he won't call your number. Tester will call the failure out and debrief them. After that those in the classroom will watch a vid, take the rider pledge and take back the result slip which needed for license endorsement. If you are lucky you can go for expressway fam in the afternoon. Remember you need tp result and expressway fam slip for license endorsement. If you applying for new license, you need $50 and passport photo too.

All the best for your test!!
