The price is quite reasonable considering that K&N filters are washable and relpacement free. I used once on my previous bike and had no problems with the air filter since.

Saw in the previous postings that the stock filter is a bit congelted in design in terms of airflow, so i guess it would be a reliable investment to get one. What do you think Soh? Plan to get one also?

better air intake = better engine response and performance:hungry:

i havent got my license yet but i was justing reading through various threads and came up to this. some question to ask the veterans here.

Phantom Vs Roadwin

Which 1 more comfortable?

Which 1 more low maintaince?

Which 1 better fuel consumption?

Which is more powerful and faster?

1st/2nd hand phantom Vs 1st/2nd hand roadwin

Price difference??

Which has a better resale value?

I know its 2 different bike. just that this are the 2 bike that interest me the most and most likely to get after getting license. Just wan to find out more. Dun biased cause it on naked bike section hor.

i) I've ridden a Phantom before (second rider for a friend whose studying overseas). I've also rode a Kymco Zing, about the same as the Phantom and the Magma. All i can say is that, cruises are a ###### on your back especially if you're above 175 cm. Unless of course, you regularly go to the gym & work out you lats & back, long journeys on a cruiser will give you a backache and butt ache.

Roadwin adopts a sportier riding posture just like a s4, so it's more comfy.

ii) Both are equally low maintenance since they both are low cc 4 strokers, so only need to change 4T and oil filter. Like stsoh mentioned, Roadwin incorporates a 4 valve engine design, so higher fuel consumption...BUT only a bit more. Expect better ruggedness and durability on the Roadwin though.A phantom's frame is a 4 bit ricketty from my experience. Also the chrome on the Phantom will start to rust very fast. roadwin are made better. Just look at stsoh's pics of his bike. Not only that, a naked bike is alot easier to clean and do maintanence.

iii) Phantom's are more powerful due to 75 added CC's compared to the Roadwin but the Phnatom's power are more obvious only in the lower end of the powerband so pick ups feel strong. Roadwin power lies a bit higher on the powerband hence slower pick up. But in terms of road handling, the Roadwin handles better due to its sports design. Cruisers just dun handle very well...and it gets very difficult to handle if your fork is leaking or your brake pads are worn out.

Extra note: A phantom even the new models dont offer a complete instrumentation panel (a tacho, speedo, odometer, fuel gauge, neutral + beam indicator). So Phantom users rely on the odometer to fill up their tanks. To a new rider that may seem like a small matter, but trust me...even an inaccurate fuel gauge is better than shaking your bike and listening for petrol when you forget the readings on the odometer of when you last filled her up. :goodluck:

i am unfortunately taller than 1.75m in fact i am 1.87m hehe. some ppl says that if i ride a phantom it will be wierd some say that its ok. so i actually dun mind at all as long as i like.

but the only thing about bike 1 i might pillon people often. so it's roadwin comfortable for pillon as well. roadwin comfy for tall people too? i dun like scramble cause its pillon will be uncomfortable and for rider (long rides) as well, otherwise scramble is for me. i look for comfy.

roadwin as u all said came in production in 2004, first hand = 7k. a little too off my budget. i might wan to get a super 4 eventually, so if u ask me to spend 7k on a 2b bike first seems too much for me. that's why, wave, phantom comes to mind cause i can get it cheap. But wave?? lol, i dun ride wave for my size.

any advisors to solve my problem? cant find a 2nd hand roadwin is the problem now. or any other naked bike to recommend?

budget? Get GN125 la....Since you are thinking of upgrading, get a transport bike first. Fulfill the budget if its your priority.

Mind you second hand bikes are prone to the workshop a lot more often, and getting a well mantained second hand bike is hard to find. i know....my previous five bikes always had problems within half a year or less. Varaderos are way to ex...even second hands....and very fuel consuming since its a hybrid bike. :thumb:

Anyways.. i did see one or two Roadwins on Yahoo classifieds.....

Hi OkdOkie,

You have to look at the budget practically, i mean...what exactly is your budget? If looks and practiality are concerned, SGD 7k for a first hand bike is relatively ok. Not that its expensive..in fact is affordable considering the fact that Roadwins are built to last with minimum maintanence.

I bought mine (red model with matching red box & helmet) for a total of about $7.3 K OTR. COE value is about $800 for motorbikes now so if COE drops then will be cheaper. Insurance - Second party (bout nearing four hundred if i remember). I downed $1.4k The rest by installments totalling 18 months. Monthly is $354 * 18 months with total compound interest of only about $500.

Of course if you want cheaper installments just extend to 2 or 3 years la which makes it about $270/mnt for 2 year or $188/mnth for 3 year loan based on loan of $5900 at 5% interest per annum with a downpayment of $1.4k. Total compound interest will of course be higher.

Average maintenance for the bike is between $15-30 (depends on what oil you want) provided you regularly sent for servicing between 2000 - 3000 km travelled. Fuel per full tank is about $20 (about 13l for a mileage of around 440km using petrol at $1.50 a litre...still got about 3l of reserve some more).

If you compare this any other 125cc bikes in the market, it is in fact... very affordable. But then again, it is after all, up to you to decide
