louie get m_power rwR (sport, not naked).

its great bike (4th gen rw) with low mileage.

y2k, tire size is too small to fit on rw or rwR.

beside its bad practice to mix different brand tires on a bike.

rw is above avg in class 2b, maybe can find a cheap 2nd bike but cant consider it cheap in terms of maintenance for class 2b bikes.

but then cheap or expensive depends on individual perspective, a person whom have no riding or new to biking might find it expensive to maintain vs a person whom rode big bikes b4 will consider it dirt cheap to maintain.

having say tat, rw need good quality parts so maintenance is definitely above avg.

eg. tires r bigger than all mopeds, so cant use small n cheap tires.

tried cheap chain b4 n it cant last long as compared to 'wx' ring chain which r lasting n lesser elongation.

maybe u should consider others tat r definitely cheap, like rxk, rxz, spark, x1, f16, fz150, cbf150, etc.

still consider rw then must prepare n use quality parts.

do u often top up petrol at JB?

if u do then its probably fuel is contaminated with water.

have u check ur spark plug?

if the spark plug electrode is white color then ur carb setting is lean. its possible tat ur engine overheated.

electrode color = grey is lean, white is too lean air/fuel mix.

electrode color = brown or tan is good air/fuel mix.

electrode color = black is rich, sooty is too rich air/fuel mix.

if arent sure how to troubleshoot n rectify ur problem, ask cka for help.

here another one,

spark gun (plastic cap connected to the spark plug) electric current leak due to crack.

i had this problem due to old/worn out, coz me so much problem until i narrow it.

also blame LAB for selling me a fail product, better buy oem.

now a new spark gun n double insulated with shrinkable tube.

do tell us wat is it when u solve ur problem.

visit daelim agent - cka.

addresses r in their web site http://www.cka.com.sg .

or

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/158-Choong-Kok-Agency-Pte-Ltd

or

search for it at sbf garage sale.

pls read previous posts to find out more about rw characteristics.

newbies regret riding it coz they felt it vibrate too much n too slow for them (young hot blood) but not for those like me.

i luv riding it.

now we know daelim new tech engine can be replace by old tech cg125.

Hi, Im Phil in the UK and you have a great site here with lots of interesting reading! I have a Daelim Daystar VL 125 which is honestly the most comfortable ride I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of motor bikes in the last 36 years, my little VL 125 currently has a very good RW 4 valve 125cc air cooled engine without oil cooler as the VL engine had some problems, I wonder if an old CG125 engine would fit in the VL 125? it would also be interesting to be able to fit the RW 150cc engine for a little extra HP.

keep posting please very interesting subject to me.

hi, welcome to sbf.

naked (roadwin) n cruiser (daystar) engine is slightly different internally n externally.

example,

daystar has a kickstart but rw doesn't have.

daystar has one additional pair of clutch plate as compared to rw.

top parts r mostly identical.

can rw engine fit into daystar frame?

another option, u can take a look at honda shadow 125cc engine.

run ur engine w/o oil cooler? it's not wise coz oil r circulating heat to cool engine.

btw, here we have X5 daystar, i.e. 140.2 cc (it's an one extra hp).

fyi, there is a daystar thread at cruiser section:

HDEO r mainly mineral (dino) oil base, even full syn hdeo oil r refine mineral (dino) eo at it's best.

u can safely use it if has API 'SG', 'SH' or 'JASO MA' printed on it's back label.

otherwise above API 'SH' such as API 'SJ', 'SL' or 'SM', dun use them coz the main ingredient zddp is replaced with friction modifier.

zddp:

Thank you stsoh, my mistake I thought the VF 125 was the RW but I now know it is not, the VF engine I have in my daystar is the same engine but in black and without an oil cooler (no oil cooler fitted as standard) engine number VF125E 1204421

The origional VL125 engine from my Daystar which is the 2006 model brown and beige with spoked wheels is silver with oil cooler and a rounded cylinder head cover engine number VL125E 1048181 but it requires repair.

both are 124cc 13hp (9.7Kw)@10000 rpm bore 56.5mm x 49.5mm with torque 10Nm (7.41lbs)@7500 rpm.

Thank you for the daystar corner link

Phil
