collecting deposit from seller

Hi, about to buy mine new bike, wish to pay half of the price as deposit first to confirm and reserve the bike to me first, its 1k. can i ask u old birds who are experienced, is it appropriate if i ask to take picture of the seller's ic front and back after i paid the deposit? do i need to print an agreement form and let the seller sign? or just the ic will do?

Never do that. 1k is a lot of money. It will be too much hassle to get it back, if the seller decides to play play. You shouldn't pay anything more than $50 as deposit.

already agreed, i need to reserve the bike 100%. i had all the forms from sgbikemart. is it rude if i ask for ic as well?

$1k deposit is too much leh. What bike is it? I find it normal to ask for his IC, both of you must sign on the agreement as well.

Don't pay that much cash. 50-100 is ok. Pay full amount after checking bike is in good running, no previous summons especially in m'sia and when both of you are finished settling the transfer ownership of the bike.

depends on how much the bike is la.. if the bike is 20k++ quite ridiculous to pay 50-100 as a deposit.

 

as a seller, after i receive my deposit, i will turn away all viewers and reserve the bike. is it worth it to turn away all my potential buyers for $50 if my bike is worth 20k?

From my point of view, it's all based on trust. But one shouldn't pay too much a deposit no many how much the bike worth. for example, bike worth 20k-30k u pay 1-2k, seller ******* run u makan your money u still lose out, because u paid the 'deposit' based on trust, call police, police cant do anything, do agreement also no use unless those legal agreement those must pay kind. $50 is still money, is just a sign of trust no matter how much the bike.

Yes its CBR400 with alot of history. Owner's sister is selling and shes amateur first timer also. So when I ask her if she wants deposit to confirm mine dedication, she just say half of bike price. Anyway the transfer had proceeded correctly, she is definitely clean of any dishonesty.

Going enlist NS now 2 hours after securing the bike, no chance to repair also. Cya peeps.

decided to purchase a wave 125 r from a female rider, went down to view, and decided to buy it,

 

agreed price is 1.5k, and transfer 6days later (working so must transfer on weekend)

 

i told her i'm not putting a deposit, simple reason, i put $50 will be me trusting her not to run, i dont put deposit will be her trust on me for me not to run..

 

immediately, she told me she doesnt want the deposit, $50 dollars doesnt mean much, maybe she knows i'm a sincere buyer.. thats why..

 

but in the end this is business, if you're sincere, there's mutual trust, trust will form the deposit itself.

 

happy to say, 15min after viewing, advertisment removed, bike posted as sold, thats 6 days before transfer.. so you get what i mean.

bro, one more thing.. i know i write alot.. but i've seen enuf of con cases.. Dont want you to be another..

 

firstly, asking for ic is not rude, its a transaction, its a deposit, you need some sort of guarantee.. ic number, address etc.. you might wanna see the log card and insurance too.. for all you know it may not be a vehicle under his/her name..

 

secondly, there's NEVER a need to reserve a bike 100%, good deals come by all the time, sbf is full of nice people.. your desperation for one bike may get you into trouble..

 

thirdly, as others mentioned above, if its true that you havent got your 2a, please do not deposit on a bike.. trust me.. most likely it'll kill you..

 

let me explain,

example: if you deposit 1k, then (touch wood) you fail tp, wait 2 more months, but road tax expire, insurance for the owner expire, inspection due, who pay? use your deposit offset? or she eat your deposit if your tp takes too long?

 

 

All in all, this is a business transaction, and it only works if there's trust, if have trust why need deposit. Hope you get what i mean.. i agree that stuff like this seldom happens but still you want to protect your money and interest... isnt it?
