Hmm... I think the first thing NUS biker's group need to do is establish group riding ettiquette... seems like quite luan...

Remember we lost one RVF lady SBF rider on the way to Kulai this year and BoBokik (the senior mod) totalled his SRAD on the way back from Kulai... and he's a pretty experienced rider.

THe KIPS rider is from another group?

I put my name down on the line means I am responsible hor.

Dun want to be the first NUS club advisor with a fatality.

I think I need all the club members and their parents to sign legal disclaimers liao...

if u want me to kaopeh about last nite, the kips is last min addition, she came just as we were about to set off... dist between bikes were reasonable, i at behind a bit uncomfortable @ 140 but so long as the route briefing was done..and can see tail light...still ok... hamsterz was good enuff to stop after every toll to count strength 1st...

coming back, added another 3 more tua gu..hamsterz frens...now the spacing wider liaoz...i was with the phantom all the way behind...and i guess baka was caught in no man's land..between us and the tua gu... and he couldn't lane change in time...

ok lah...alot of learning pts from this...next trip should be better...

Need to train people in close formation riding liao... last trip to Genting 3 1000cc + all keep pace with one Sonic all the way, sandwiched between first and last bike and within sight ... dun play play, can be done one :-)

Want to go fast can, but not with people on their first time in Malaysia... things that are totally basic and taken for granted by us can be confusing for them. Not that I want to spoil fun, but when you have tour newbies you have to keep them in mind while touring....

(want to go faster a bit can, come come join my regular group if you're interested, own time own target 200+ km/h also can  )

Some points:

a) Heng is baka found his way back, boh got problems liao... did you guys at least try to track him down, dun tell me 'pang seh'?

b) Eh, got Phantom also travel at 140 km/h? That bike can speed cannot stop one hor... Also that bike cannot sustain that kind of speed, boh like somebody I wun mention phantom entire gearbox chui in Malaysia...

c) Baka was too intent on catching up with first bike, in this kind of situation always drop back to the rear group, its not a race...

d) If outside bikers join the group, its ok, but they are on OTOT. The original group keeps its integrity...

Generally to be an effective tour leader you need not only know about your own bike, you have to know about everybody else bike... petrol range lah, speed tolerances lah etc. Doesnt hurt to know riders and their personalities either. Troublesome ones (reckless, or never maintain bike) eventually get left behind by the more experienced trip leaders.

Also, gotta have a good team of sweepers.... spare rider... tools etc... (ok lah, Kulai no need, but for reference for later trips...)

i think the cockup came when both me and hamsterz took it for granted that once i reach the toll gate, means everyone there.. never count n then move off...i was careful to not let anyone go behind me, and nobody did... so yea..we assumed lah... screw up here... only till baka sms me then i noe...paiseh...

i think hamsterz 120 equal my 140, probably cos my sprocket changed liaoz the reading off... so how fast the phantom going..i not sure...

ah guys, practice makes perfect lah..it's one of the agenda set up for bikers club

Gearing ratio does change speedo reading? Isn't it calibrated to front wheel circumference and number of revolutions? I am looking to install a speedo on my bike, might be interesting to note something different.

means big cow...usually reserved for class 2 and above...though i would only consider 1000cc n above..

Slight translation inaccuracy. The term 'gu' is sexless, so its more "Big Bull".

That probably gives a better description than a big (fat) cow.

Precisely what I mean about the most basic things we never think of also they will do :cheeky:

No problem, we are all here to live and learn.

I think I will have to prepare a lecture about touring and riding in Malaysia... Also special lecture for leaders and sweepers.

Wait my free time coming up in June, I will put something together.

Generally speaking, the group always travels at the speed of its slowest member.

Those who are unwilling to and confident about their ability to reach the destination can Own time, own target. They then take responsibility for themselves.

The slowest member should NEVER feel pressurised to speed up beyond their comfort speed. I've seen too, too many accidents happen because of just this one factor. That's why the role of the rear sweep is to provide reassurance to all the slower riders that they don't need to push themselves.

The girl on the RVF who passed away was chasing her bf on an R1 in front on the way to Kulai. Learn from other's mistakes.

Similarly, it is also the responsibility of the group leader to ensure a tight formation; you can generally see 5 bikes behind you when you do this correctly. Rear sweep can keep 6 or 7 in view, between them there should be an overlap.

yesh gear ratio changes speedo reading. Bikes are NOT calibrated from wheel circumcerence directly. They tap from the front sprocket. So if you do change the fron or rear sprocket sizes, the speedo will read differently.

ooh sprocket. I have always notice the speedo cable to the front wheel only. Is it big cc bikes only that have speedos to sprocket? is that y those front wheel speedos are claimed to be less accurate?

actually most bike have speedo tapped from front sprocket instead of front wheel (usually the smaller bikes have this...eg..phantom,GSXR400)

one tat taps to front sprocket is more accurate coz if you chage sprocket size, you still have the same reading. But flaw is hat it is not durable due to its construction.

yah... i think on the way there the speed was good... but on the way the spped was kinda fast.... in fact i was kinda right in no man's land.... i couldn't see any bikes in front and behind.... and when very suay the marker was blocked by a big bus at the precise moment... but kinda lucky that i went into malaysia through the causeway a couple of times so heng heng can find my way back..... anyway sorry for the trouble caused.... well i guess next time i will fall back to the rear... lesson learnt har....

haha it's ok lah...our fault too partially... dun kan cheong lah... anyway next time we must do a more thorough briefing on where to turn n stuff... like that time i went up sepang with 10 tua gu..they basically told me exactly which rest station to look for them... and where to turn, sometimes got marker...so i wasn't worried going @ my own pace..

u lost me there

so front sprocket more accurate or less accurate? same reading even if u change the sprocket? or is there a typo?

front wheel tapped --> will still read the same even tough u change front/rear sprockets

For sprocket tapped ---> The speedo will read higherif rear sprocket is chnage bigger & front sprocket is chaged smaller. Speedo readin will read vice-versa with reverse sprocket size change.
