@jimmyvfr, ya my current FC also about 60km drop 1 bar, i think im using maxima 10w50 too. can see ur mileage 120k km liao, which year model may i ask? cos mine 03 aready hit 160K km.

And guys ( jimmyvfr, kmkoon and gixxertan) or those quite laojiaos, ur bike got the "ticks" on ur bike, just to ask cos i think mine have, ask ah beng he say initially is valve clearance. aready did the clearance and check my tensioner and chain timing are all ok. but the "tick" still exist and ah beng say is normal. i search it and it says the "tick" is due to exhaust valve guide wear off, thus creating more space for it to knock resulting in the tick. not much a big issue for me but i find it nuisance la. any bros care to share? any big damange will result bcos of this?

The "tick" is a real and common issue in Gen 1 as documented in fjrowners.com. A guy by the web-name "warchild" remove the valve and valve guide to show the amount of wear but Yamaha has not issued any recall for this "problem". As far as I know, there isn't any major damage resulting from this inherent defect, at least in Singapore. I do believe over time, FC will deteriorate quite badly. I'm gg at 15km/l with a mileage of 200, 000km.

Biting on the fray of my hair, I muse upon the way to find the oasis of evermore beyond the vertical horizon, I shall join the windupdeads in owl city, neither my safetysuit nor my red jumpsuit apparatus can save me, cuz I mistook a death cab for cutie in plain white T's...

G'day peeps. Can advise what is the interval for cam chain tensioner servicing/ replacement and valve clearance? I was reading up on it in some other forums and it looks like they have different opinions on this.

wait for symptoms to appear then replace? if its cam chain tensioner/valve clearance aka shims replacement, symptoms like slight knocking on the side of the engine can be diagnosed. but it is always good to change before all these happen to prevent further damage it may cause. i think u can look up in manual? i heard some says every 60k km? some says 80k km? up to individual la cos many factors causing the wear and tear like riding style( if u wack alot sure need to service earlier). No issue then no need service lor.. theres a saying also: " bo zho bo da ji, zho liao wu da ji". If still not comfortable with it, seek advise from trustworthy mechanics?

Guys, i tot of self diy lubricating my driveshaft spline as well as the driven spline. as i have did some research on the internet and found that is indeed necessary to lubricate them if not might cause heavy wear and tear of the spline thus a heavy costly damage.

I would also interested in diy-ing replacing of spark plugs and check on my throttle bodies synchronization.

Will anyone interested in this diy session?

thru this, we can share some diy knowledge btw us and perhaps can also do a comparison in our bikes too. In term of sound, cosmetic, accessories, mods and more.

However proper tools are needed. eg, torque wrench, big socket wrench, carb tuner tool. I am keen on investing on the tools too.

Hi Bro Sakio....my bike after change clutch housing is quieter and smooth, don have the "tick" sound....i also just ride for 8 mths... spend alot money on wear and tear... my main harness connector one of the pins corroded and spoilt causing fan not activated... now solved...mine is 04 model...

Actually the "tick" sound quite common in Gen 1 FJR. My previous Gen 1 FJR happens to have this "tick" sound also. But I just ride and worry less.

No more "tick" with Gen 2 FJR.

Yamaha FJR valve very seldom run out of specs, of course u can do value clearance at every 50000km. Most likely to be replaced are the CCT and timing chain.

I rode to and parked at the SCDF Civil Defence Academy this morning. While keeping my stuffs in my box, in came a black-coloured FBG FJR.

Was admiring the bike as the rider, a SCDF Warrant Officer was taking out his helmet.

Wonder if it is one of you guys here?

Saw that the rider was in quite a stern look plus with his SCDF uniform and warrant rank on his shoulders, I dare not say hi.

So coming here to say hi if you happen to be frequenting here. :)

Nice FJR you have there. :thumb:

I saw in a forum somewhere that they recommend valve clearance every 25k miles (abt 40k). Btw, did you do clearance every 50k?

So for no abnormal sound yet and I don't usually do long distance riding. Maybe should play safe and have it checked at 40k. Any idea how much they usually charge?
