Engine Ice Coolant - Day 1

 

First day of using Engine Ice Coolant..... What should I say.... It's not as good as I expected it to be. The temperature gauge seems to shoot up faster than before. Very interesting, dunno why this is so. Isn't it supposed to be cooler? I'm at a loss of words. Let's hope that my trust in this coolant has not been misplaced. For $28 per 1 gallon bottle, it's not cheap. Temperature went up to 3/4 quite fast this evening. Hopefully it's because of the ambient temperature... Crossing my fingers... Stay tuned for updates. :goodluck:

should be around 9k - 10k. FS, FT around 11k to 13k, FN, FP less than 8k can get liao. Hope these helps. :smile:

Just flushed and changed the coolant yesterday. Thanks to henry aka usmonkey for opening up his place for me.

 

After flushing the coolant, I only managed to top up 1 Gallon of Engine Ice coolant. That corresponds to 1.89 litres. The only problem is that the cooling system has 2.3 litres - 2.1 in main system, 0.2 in reservoir. So this means that I have quite a lot of water inside the system. I think I'll have to check back on the coolant a few days later to make sure all is fine.

 

Still need sometime before I know if its better. But so far for today, results wasnt too satisfactory... seems that the temperature is slightly higher than what I would get previously (most conditions being about the same).

 

Stay tuned for the review of Engine Ice Coolant.

It's not advisable to add water into the cooling system. Though water is the best conductor, it has many other disadvantages. It corrodes the system more easily and also doesnt have high boiling point.

 

There are 2 parts of the cooling system you should check... the main system where the cap is on the right side just below your throttle, open the cap and make sure you can see the coolant level. Next is the reservoir on the right side around the pillion footrest area, to see it more clearly, you can remove the tail fairing. Make sure its in its proper level.

 

Thats about it.

conductor? i tot it is to see which liquid have higher specific heat capacity .. the higher the more heat it can absorb .. dunno if how fast the heat dissipate out of the coolant is related with the specific heat capacity or not .

hmm .. i was wondering if it has anything to do with the mixing of tt coolant and your water in your reservoir.. jus a guess

hmmm.....maybe yr flushing method sarla like u mentioned about u cannot sqeeze the expected 2.3 litre in?? could there still be trapped water in the system > thereby causing yr ENGINE ICE to mix with the old coolant/water mixture--->thereby affecting its coolin properties??

 

one more thing..this few days damn freaking hot lah, could that be a reason? or were u stuck in a jam? if stuck in jam in this kinda weather..sure hit 3/4 one.

 

does USmonkey experience a drop in cooling performance too?

I've been to several websites about cooling systems. It seems that water alone is the best conductor of heat, which relates heat being transferred out at a faster rate.

 

So if there is still water inside, it wouldnt affect the conduction of heat. Water inside would probably mean that the system is more prone to corrosion, and that the whole liquid mixed with water, would probably have a lower boiling point, since water has a low boiling point.

 

It might be because of the weather. Not too sure about that.

 

I was thinking whether it could be that my cooling system is not working...maybe i gotta go down k&t to check that out.

 

In summary, possible causes :

1) Weather too hot; ambient temperature higher than normal, resulting in higher temperature readings.

2) Pump of cooling system not working.

3) Engine ice coolant really not that great after all.

pls remember to off ur "run or off" switch on the right handle bar and close ur petrol switch to off on the left side of ur rider seat before u go for ur NS hor, got more than 3 weeks no start bike leh...
