Hi guys.

Need help from the veterans or anyone with experience or knowlege on this one;

I have been Itching to replace my stock end can with the local legalised Yoshimura end can.

But remember i read or heard somewhere that such a modification only provide negligible power gains of about 1 or 2HP only. :giddy: Especially so if its the legal Yoshi which is not as free flowing as the illegal ones. And to fully maximise the effects of the end can, a full system will need to be installed. Even that full exhaust mod only provides 2-3HP.*

(*assume such mods oredy includes the standard re-jetting that is required to correct the lean conditions after changing to a free-er flowing endcan.)

Anyone has the magazine article on aftermarket exhaust tests for RVFs?

or anyone has experiece on fixing the legal yoshi endcans and felt any improvements other than sound?

What do you guys think? Value for money modification or just a waste of time and $$ ??

legal exhaust only give u smooth pick up and sound only... plus a bit 1 - 2HP u wan mah??? :goodluck: i rather u do other modification than using legal exhaust.... tat my point view , is up to u to decided it

ok lah if u properly tune & tong yr exhaust play a bit part sprocket ... i can say u will win a bike with legal exhaust ( 400cc only )

ok lah i know some people willing to spent $$$$ ...

hey Ghost, agree with u . That the 1 or 2 HP gain is not really worth the hassle and $$.

But If u look at it this way..yea, 1 or 2 HP IS negligible performance gain....for a car perhaps.

But we are talking about bikes which is lighter here...wouldnt 2HP make considerable improvement in terms of motorcycles? Power to weight ratio theory...if you have not much weight to begin with (if u consider RVF to be light), and u can find an extra 2HP, would'nt the power to weight ratio improve abit?

I'm no physicist so I'm still wondering! what u guys think?

Well...the 2nd part of yr theory is exactly what is applied on my bike. My exhaust is slightly tong and my carbs tuned to suit. But no aftermart jetting kits. So far...its enuff for street performance and since I'm anti-track, this state of tune is enuff for the time being.

Just been fiddling with the idea of Yoshi la becoz we all know, a rvf with a Yoshi can sound so .......Orgasmic!!

Shay, changing legal yosi exhaust ah? Tot u oways anti non-stock bikes 1? How cum suddenly got dis idea of changing?

Act i quite agree with u regarding the power to weight ratio theory lor....I got a friend riding a SV400 who is also Buzzbeam's colleague....He changed his stock exhaust to akaprovic full exhaust system which is illegal on road....Guess wat? after changing, his bike can level wif me at pick-up at moving off from stop and then drag away from me....Dun 4get my ex bike has oredi did some mod like the injector needles (not saying my bike is super fast after some mod lah)....B4 dat wen his bike is still wif the stock exhaust, there's no such excellent results from his bike lor....

This is how a gd exhaust system can do wonders to a stock bike even without other modifications lor.....Though i dun really know how gd is the legal yoshi exhaust is? But my advice 2 u is mayb u can get a 2nd hand legal exhaust lor, at least u wun feel much of a pinch if its not up 2 ur expectation and u oso get 2 enjoy the organsm sound u hope 2 have.....hahaha

Here is the stupid answers....

hehehe ..just kidding but i'll list some examples but will not attempt to explain into the theory and facts behind them... too technical liao.

ADV

------

1) Compact width-wise. Makes for better manueverability about the lateral axis. More flickable due to better C of G.

2) Better rear wheel traction due to Big-Bang firing order. This is a BIG wining factor in race tracks.

3) V4s have the best of both worlds. It has the Vtwins' characteristic torque and usable linear Mid-range and a multi-4's smoother and higher topend range.

4) The RVF V4's inherent layout dictates an alternate method in sychronising valves timing in both of the separate front and rear pair of cylinders. It uses Cam Gears instead of a timing chain..... virtually maintenance free.

Disadv

----------

1) V4 engine's layout makes maintenance work very labour intensive and is a nitemare to work on..especially changing sparkplugs.

2) COmplicated engine. More moving parts than a traditional Inline4 engine. 2 sets of cams, valve trains for the front and rear pair of cylinders. Heavier.

3) Fuel economy not as good as an inline4.

4) HEat. The bloody heat from the V4 engine! Your balls will hate you for riding thru orchard road on saturday nites.

There u go SAlesman. heheeh....Y u wana know btw?? contemplating a Rvf yourself?

fellow rvfians pls add on anything i missed out.

RVF got how many models?

In 1994 the NC35 first appeared replacing the NC30 VFR400R. The appearence of the fairing stickers was a combination of red/white tank, black center, red flame, white RVF word and red Honda word, similiar to what you see in my sig. There was also a version you could buy from HRC meant for racing only. This had some stuff deleted from the road bike to reduce weight.

In 1996, the facelift colours came which is what everyone is riding today (or original colours) The flame is changed to blue and RVF in yellow and Honda in blue.

There was also the racing version. None of these specials came to Singapore.

A little more info I dug out. The granddaddy V4 sports, the VFR750R or RC30, was a homologation limited edition hand built road bike for Honda's entry into WSB at the time in the early ninties. The VFR400R NC30 which followed soon is virtually a sort of miniature scaled down version of the RC30, abiet with the same technology in a smaller (thus nimbler) package. In 1994, the WSB saw Honda replacing the VFR with the RVF750 or RC45. On the home market, the RVF750 was also produced in limited quantities and both the RC30 and RC45 cost (equivalent Sing dollars) around $40,000 when new. Its 400cc siblings were priced near other 750-800cc bikes too as we know locally it was between $170$19K.

The NC30/35 was also a limited production run of about 100,000 units per model, RR and RT combined. Actually, since the NC35 was a JDM (Japan Domestic Market) exclusive, Singapore actually got quite a handful of these bikes second to the U.K. compared to other countries as P.I. (private import). If you go to Japan, its extremely difficult to find a either the RVF750 or 400 on the used market. I have a used bike guide book listing and I only found one RVF400 and one RC30 (no RC45) out of hundereds of used bikes for sale.

Next time I will plot the lineage of the RVF/VFR name in racing.

so wat is the differ?

between RR and RT?
