I have some clips in my computor which is in various formats: wma, avi, mpeg etc etc

they are some family video clips.

I wish to convert them to dvd format and burn onto dvds, playable with common DVD players so that i can bring the dvds to my relatives place to share it with them.

VCD is fine also.

can anyone help?

IMO, such a program that has a simple yet powerful UI, that can encode video as well as to burn it on a DVD would make it fully featured -- can only be offered up to the point that the developers would start charging money for their products. (eg. Nero Burning ROM)

However, would this free offering be of interest to you in the meantime?

Option 1:Video DVD Maker Free (go to their website)

Option 2: If you have Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, then there's Windows DVD Maker.

Option 3: If you have Apple Mac OS X -- iMovie and iDVD.

Ok, here is wat i have achieved after 2 days of sourcing and trying out different softwares.

1. most softwares only allow up to 1min or 5min or 10min or 10% or 50% conversion of the video clip into dvd format. to use it fully, i have to purchase it.

2. i actually found a software that allows 100% conversion from any format to dvd format playable on dvds. however, there are some words in the middle of the screen. have to purchase, again.

other softwares that allow 100% conversion have distortions in audio when played in dvd player.

so my choice is number 2. VSO - ConvertXtoDVD is the software's name. free to try, unlimited period of trial, 100% conversion, no limitations. BUT, watermark is inserted in the middle of the screen. ok la, not so disturbing although it is better w/o it.

u guys can try the same too.

another method would be buying creative Zen Video. get the 30gig. transfer the video clips into zen video, buy a cable and hook up onto the tv. it works too. but i figured the first method would be a better choice

DIY.

Without going all too technical here, it involves using

- a professional 3rd party video conversion program

- A dedicated video-rendering card...something that speeds up video conversion by 2 or 3-fold -- and is very expensive

- the fastest DVD-burner on the market.

These items are considered "bling-bling" for the video-production team
