Quick summary.

In April, I decided I wanted build my own electric vehicle, as part of my research into sustainable automotive design, drew up some plans, made a few enquiries, blah blah blah. After considering on-hand facilities, skills, know-how and costs, I settled on building a bike for the time being.

In May, I bought an NSR 80 frame, several NSR 50 parts and imported an electric motor from the US. Total costs somewhere around S$2000. Frame is around S$250, forks, wheels, swingarms etc, roughly another S$500. Most of the cost went to the motor and controller as well as shipping.

Have settled on using this battery, ALECo 12V 28Ah deep cycle battery. It's taller than my previous choice of batteries, but slimmer, thus I can now fit 3 batteries instead of 2.

Estimated ETA is end of this year.

Will be building mockup engine mounts tomorrow. Should be able to complete measurements within this 2 weeks, after which comes the hard part, figuring out the wiring. Current ETA for project is end of this year. Tentatively, it should be 'ridable' by September.

Brake rotors, calipers and sprockets are sitting in a box behind that fence. No point fitting them on yet since I'm still in the initial stage. Have yet to overhaul the calipers or suspension yet.

It's a flimsy adaptor plate, but it should look roughly like this. From the looks of this, I'm better of keeping it to 2 batteries instead of 3, still need to take into account batteries trays, insulation and ventilation.

Working taking up more time than expected, but I couldn't resist the urge anymore so went to glue some junk foam together, will be building a model of the dummy-tank. what's inside will be the charger, motor controller and if enough space, maybe a little glove/tools compartment.

Am currently toying with the idea of placing the instrument panel on the tank as well, so there'll be more space available to build a more aggressive front.

I don't think it's about "space, time, effort, courage, tools". It's about passion.
