Technically, the vehicle turning left has right of way over the vehicle turning right. Even if they are turning to different lanes.

But nobody really cares about traffic rules do they?

In Singapore traffic rule, always give way to vehical from your right.

Junction In front of Katong Shopping Ctr...

Well, It could be Any Junction.

That's the Most Happening Place... To make An Impact!

Note:

If you forget to switch off your turn signal...

the Opposite Traffic may Just turn into Your Path!

Be Alert!

This is very common false signal received, the other party

forget to set back his previous singal, cost other to have suffer

from his mistake.

for my case, i was going the same direction as the car and it was slightly infront of me on the left lane and i was on the right lane... approching a juntion, the car signal left but cuts into my lane and made a sudden right turn.......

if i'm in your cousin situation, i will always wait for the vehical to turn b4 i move off.... signal lights can never be trusted......

All information is provided here with good intentions and to the best of my knowledge and is not liable for any negative effects that might occur due to this information. Thank You.

:sian:

Right-of-way can be broken down into 3 stages.

1) Minor road gives way to major road.

2) Straight, Left, Right (SLR). In descending order of priority, meaning vehicles going straight get right of way, followed by vehicles turning left, lastly vehicles turning right (just like the dude's cousin above).

3) Give way to traffic on the right. This would apply to totally uncontrolled junctions if everyone was going straight (which is rare). Then yeah traffic from your right.

Those who risk nothing, do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothing.

Just remember Even If u Have the Right-of-Way...

U may not be around to prove it... :giddy:

Like one of my trainers told me, you only have right-of-way when others give you that right.

Just have a Good Lookout for the Traffic that may

Be a Danger to U... U be Alright! :thumb:

This is damn scary but great pics man. :thumb:

I think the taxi driver turned on his hazard lights to inform others he was

stopping. Then after he made sure that everything was clear, he made

a U-turn to pick-up a passenger. As i said, scary!!!

Don't think too hard about it. You don't need a reason.

JUST RIDE.

Passenger & Taxi Attracts!

Have a Good Scan In situation like this.

Probably know what the Taxi has in Mind.

He's Livelihood is looking for Fare...

Nothing wrong with that... Everyone has to make a living.

Just Some of their Manoeuvers sometime gives us unpleasant surprises.

Do look for Head movements... Tires angles...

Any indication that help u Predict the Drivers intention.

Less he drives into your Path!

Slow down & Be Prepare to Make a Stop if u need to...

He may just miss u in this Blind Corner!

Remember! it could be any vehicle... Not necessary always a Taxi.

True Story:

An Army mate of mine drives a Sand Lorry.

His View thru his old left side mirror is quite bad.

As such...

Whenever he needs to filter to the left lane...

He would slowly move towards the left lane...

As his vision thru the mirror is limited.

No Horn... Means Lane is Clear...

So continue. (amazing)

One fine day,

Doing the Same Manoueuver...

He hit a Police Car!

Ha Ha...

He was charge for careless driving

& paid for the damages on the Police car.

Being a Pal... My advise is to get a good side mirror.

But point is... We have all kind of drivers on the road.

And There are Difficulties for People in Large Vehicles.

And Commercial Vehicles with Rushing Deliveries...

So We Keep Clear!

Hi all

Just to recount a near accident that I witness this morning.

Was travelling along ulu pandan and I was just behind this uncle on a phantoom.

We were squeezing between the lanes ( the traffic light was red and all the cars had stopped)

when

this lady driver suddenly opened her door!

The uncle nearly lost control but managed to stay on his feet. The driver then almost nonchalantly walked to the rear of her car and shut close her boot.

I think the swing of the door just missed the rider by inches.

The uncle was riding between the lanes slowly; and most of us would have squeeze between the lanes anyway unless your bike is too big to squeeze.

made me think of this street-smart thread, I think it is quite hard to prevent an accident like this when idiocy/carlessness are totally unexpected.

what are your views on this issue?

Money should never change one's values.Making money is only a report card. It's a way to tell others how you are doing

what are your views on this issue?

Drivers/pax opening doors (without checking behind)

is a very real hazard to all traffic.

In the observation above...

It its quite difficult to predict. quite unexpected.

Am Glad that uncle on...

the Phantom manage to escape without crashing into the door.

1. Reason perhaps could be the SPEED was slow enough to let the Uncle

swerve away from the door.

2. His level of alertness in squeezing between the lanes was high.

All ready to hit the brakes when required.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for other occassions:

Try not to squeeze with a row of parked cars on your left.

Take the in-between lanes closer the center of the road.

U then take away the Risk of Hitting a Door that's being openned

Unexpectedly!

Carelessly open car doors has cause much injuries to cyclist.

They have to ride along that position as they can't merge into the traffic....

Thks for contribuiting your Interesting Observation Al.. :thumb:

Use YOUR HANDS...

May not be very Common in our riding style but

Nevertheless...

It can be Very Effective Used!

This is...

Especially so for Bikes With Tiny or Low Powered Indicators.

Advantages of Hand Signals:

1. Free from Mechanical Failure

2. Cannot be left on

3. Attract attention 'cos they break the outline of the machine & Rider

4. Are clearly distinguishable in bright sunlight, when ind. lens may not

5. Can be use to confirm the rider's intention

Note:

Do not use hand signal when you need both hands on the handle bar

To control the machine.

Eg. During heavy braking at spd or sharp cornering.

On first thought:

1. If see door swing open, open throttle, send 130 horsepower and ram that bloody door off! Let that idiot drive without a door.

2. Alternatively, when the idiotic driver is opening the boot, take out my helmet and hammer her head until her head is ground level.

OK, seriously:

- I think that uncle had already benefitted from exercising his caution and had escaped from harm.

One cannot remove all idiots in the world. The key is how to survive with mistakes made by idiots like this.

The uncle had demonstrated that he travelled at a sufficiently slow speed to buy him enough time to quickly and he was alert.

Even if he wasn't that lucky and he had collided with the door, he would hit it with far less momentum and he would have escaped with a far lighter injury than had he just run down the gauntlet without being so careful in the first place.

This is a hard evidence that his "radar" is working and that his caution and anticipation had paid off. I can't really think of a better way to improve.

- When squeezing in-between the lanes to reach the front in the case when all cars are stationary at a traffic light,

I would always go through it very slowly.

Reasons are:

1. Very high tendency of pedestrians jaywalking and cutting across before traffic light.

Pedestrians on seeing a red light, may not be bothered to walk another 5-10m to the pedestrain crossing lane at the front of the traffic light. They may just cut across the road seeing that all cars had stopped.

Happened to a friend before. Seen a few times jaywalking pedestrians and motorcyclists shock each other.

And you will not be able to see them ahead if there is an "opaque" and tall vehicle like a bus, van, lorry or SUV that block your view.

Even a normal car height can block your view if the jaywalker happens to be a kid.

2. To avoid bumping into the side mirrors of cars.

 I agree that violence might be an excellent cure for idiocy.

In retrospect, I think he was very very lucky rather than his alertness as the positioning of both cars on his sides leave him with just enough space to miss the swing of the door :D

Also was reminded about an NTU accident last friday at GP town, rider apparently stopped at red light junction, car just wack him from behind.

One Way to Avoid being hit from behind...

If u Are Gonna Make a Hard Stop.

Eg... When the Lights Just Turn Red.

Always Keep Your Bike In Low Gear (eg 1st/2nd)

Not in neutral.

Reason: U can still pull away in u see a Vehicles Coming Up Fast behind U...

Unable to stop or trying to beat the red light thinking that u be riding thru...

As mention above...

Have a Glance at your Mirrors to see the

Vehicles behind are Slowing down to a Stopping :thumb:

Think the Problem with hitting car Doors is that

IF the Biker/Cyclist loses balance...

And Drop to the Road...

He'll be at the Mercy of the Vehicles behind.

Courtesy Signals

Tip of the Day #75

Courtesy signals are important 'cos

they encourage cooperative use of the roadspace

and promote road safety.

Helps develop Positive Attitude to Riding & Riders.

Signal to Apologies or defuse a potential conflict

can make a real difference to road safety.

- wave to thank road users for giving way

- to apologies when unintentionally inconvenience caused.

In most situation...

A Friendly Wave goes a Long, Long Way...
