Typically if the mod increases the volume and/or velocity of air in-take, you would need to increase the jetting proportionately otherwise the engine will be running very lean.

Bro..

What's an open pod filter? Is it something like "power filter"?

Steps to do a proper KNNBCCB with middle finger.

1. Bow down slightly, looking intensely at objective

2. Like a raging bull, hop and jog slowly towards objective

3. Take your left palm and slap it hard on the right mid-arm with a SLAP!

4. With charisma, raise right arm, whilst showing middle finger (with left palm trapped in bend right arm)

5. Shout! KNNBCCB

actually it is meant as open port air filters. Typically, stock air filters on bikes comes in a black box with sponge foam inside.

open port air filters means that instead of the box, it is replaced by a conical shaped foam (known as "ong lai";pineapple) which is supposed to enhance the air in-take and provide some change in sound when u rev ur engine.

OIC.. Thanks for the clarification...

"Power Filter" is the term I know of in that case...

Then I don't think the thread starter in this case needs to change the jet kit.

surely you can, but there is a limit on tuning with the air/fuel mixture. You can try moving the main jet position up (if your carb has that feature), otherwise you have to upsize the jet needle. Basically what you want to achieve is to increase the fuel (petrol), since you have increase the air.

Why would you want to fix an open pod air filter when you are using your bike on the road?

This will render your bike basically useless without tractable handling power in the low to mid range rev .

The purpose of the air box is basically to provide the correct back pressure and resonace required to tune the bike to a acceptable degree of power output when used on the road.

As I had emphasised many times, please do not modify your bike to what you think you had seen in 'glamous' bike magazines or hear silly rubbish from your fellow idiotic friends.

Cheers

That sounds more like the job of the muffler. By creating just enough turbulence and back pressure to keep the airflow continuous which lets the exhaust system suck the gases out of the combustion chamber more efficiently thus improving airflow.

Open-pod filters are designed for cars, under the bonnet. So when installed on bikes, it should be away from rain, and they get dirty very quickly, so cleaning discipline is required to keep the performance optimum. Open-pod does give a "shiok' feeling because it also gives the engine a throaty note, without the need to modify the exhaust system; and the whizzing sound when accelerating created by air being sucked.

Generally for combustion engine, the more air, the merrier, but there is a limited to natural aspiration. For that reason, came turbo-charging, and super-charging.

You call yourself having attained TPee status with 1900 posts and post such nonsense?

The manifold and silencer does have a back presuure and resonance effect too, that I agree.... but with the turbulence created in the air-box, there is a great pressurrsing effect required to tune the bike for the low and mid rev for the optimum power output .

You go and put a open pod filter yourself and see what happens to your bike when you ride it on the street!

Your notion about 'the more air the merrier' with regard to engine performance is a... ' I don't know how the hell did such an idea ever got into your head' type of issue.

I really hope that ppl like you don't go around dispensing such advise to other fellow bikers on how to improve their bike performance and riding abilites!

Uhm relax...I was more curious than go put a pod filter straight away mindset...BTW thanks for the advise. Well guess the dos and dun doesn really apply when its read from diff country sites...That I already know, jus wanna leran more.

when changing to biggger carb it might need a power filter to give sufficent amount of air to compensate the larger amount of petrol.

i read in a two stroke tuning book dat for 125cc the max carb size is 38mm.

if bigger lose power wan ah.

but make suure block is ported correctly la to be effecient.

haha jz my 0.0000002 cent
