Hi guys, I'm currently 20 years old and soon to finish NS. After that its bye bye for me and I'm off to Canada to continue my studies for 3 yrs.

I intend to ride over there and was wondering if anyone has a CAD or US licence, i'm interested to know if I would have to take the motorcycle test again, or can i just take their road theory and do a direct conversion?

I think both CAD or US licences are pretty similiar so the requirements for conversion should be the same, thats why I put US in the topic title too.

I have rode both 2B and 2A bikes and riding since Jan 06 if that info is needed..

Really want to try out a Ducati 749 over there without the hassle of taking a bike test again.

Thanks in advance!

If you are here for 3 years, you should take the test again. Not every insurance company is willing to insure a foreign license holder, and those that are willing will charge you more. 749 is a high insurance bike, so it is worth it to retake your license. In addition, driver's license is like NRIC here. You need it for many other purposes. So just take it.

By the way, bikes are not much cheaper here than Singapore. In fact, bike shops charge a lot for labor. You better learn to DIY. In addition, be aware that it snows a lot in Canada and your bike needs to be garaged indoors for a few months every year. My advice to you is to take the driving test as well and drive in winter.

answer is base on personal experience only.

1. during school days, accompany a few of my classmate (german, taiwan, etc) to take the RTT test. after that accompany them to the TP dept at the SSDC to "convert" / "apply" for a local licence. there is a application fee and the fee to make the licence. must show them the RTT result, the student pass and the valid driving licence. all gotten a 2b except for the german which was awarded 2a. (i don't know why)

2. Same process except this time accompany my working-counterparts to apply at the TP dept at SSDC. they are german, japan, france, china. all was given 2b. they need their employment pass/letter, valid licence and RTT test result. one of the person has PR also have to submit to the TP.

I cant say about bikes but i just came from working in Canada and for cars we had to take a theory test to get a provisional licence and take the driving test to get a full licence no convertion allowed, you can drive for 1 year on home licence. This was for Newfoundland each province may have different rules. We had to get a provisional licence to get insurance.

Winter biking in Canada not for me too soft. It gets very cold.

hope this helps

California exempts you from the practical part of the Class M1 License when you take the CA-MSP program . check out http://www.ca-msp.org for more details.

however after the course you have to take the theory test, which is 20 questions, 12 to pass.

the CA-MSP program is a 2 day, 5-6 hour each day course. US$150 for below 21, US$235 .

after the course + theory test = M1 license = unlimited license!

Good choice bro, Toronto is a nice place. I was there for 3 years too but at London Ontario though, 2 hrs drive from TO.

I didn't bother with conversion to bike licence there. Only got a driving licence. You only need to prove how long you been holding on to your driving licence, take a theory test and a practical test. The practical test is so easy compared to SG. Juz drive 1 round the block, do a parallel parking and that's it...no S course, crank course, E-brake and all that ****. Hell, the parallel parking they give 2 car space so if that person like that oso cannot park properly, he is better off not driving. :faint: But this licence is only valid for 5 years, after that you have to take another driving test (go on expressway) to upgrade.

Frankly, the weather there is too cold for riding. The only good time to ride is from June to Sept which is the summer there. Better off getting a nice car and drive whole year round, cars there are cheap. So many places u can go there, please make sure you enjoy yourself there as well. Niagara Falls, Montreal, Quebec City, etc.

Sorry, can't help u much on bike licence there but you can always enquire at their Ministry of Transportation.
