juz received a settlement claim from my lawyer regarding my accident in Feb.

Can anyone pls help to interpret wat the deduction of "Repair Bill" means?

The story:

I was riding straight on main road at night. Saw a Comfort taxi going to turn out from carpark to main road, which is into my lane. Thought he saw me and would stop for me, hence I maintain speed. Then suddenly come out. I horned but still cant avoid. The next thing I know is I saw lane markings flashing past my left eye. Went TP, IO said no damage to taxi.

If there is contact, then the taxi would definitely sustain some damages.

It looks like you are claiming your own insurance (first party) ? If that's the case, it seems like you were at fault.

Anyway, it's better you call your insurer to check.

Strange .... if you are not claiming on your insurance, how come the other party pays "$1,440" for repairs and yet the actual repairs (which is deducted) is only "$1,280"). How did the difference come about?

From that document, this is how I view it.

The insurer, whether it's the taxi driver's or yours you got to clarify with the lawyer, is willing to pay 90% of what your lawyer is fighting for you -> $4400 plus 40 dollars for loss of transport.

Your actual bike repair totaled 1280 and the law fees 750, you pocket the rest.

One thing you MUST do is to contact your insurer, ntuc or mitsui, and tell them your case is settled. They will ask you to fax them the acknowledgement of settlement or some document from the law firm that clarify that the case is close. This is because you are now in their "blacklist" until your case is confirmed closed. Which means if you do not contact them, you will not be able to renew your insurance later on, be it ntuc or mitsui, they share their blacklist database if i'm not wrong. Some law firms do this for you, some just "forget" about this once they got their share of the pie. It's best you contact your insurancer to make sure all is good and well.

Hope this help, i got my lawyer to settle my previous accident and learnt this in the process.

I'm disputing this deduction too.......It will b unfair if I'm paying for my own repairs which I saw the damage was definitely much less than what was quoted in the letter.

Also I got a letter from TP says "Taxi driver had accepted composition for the offence of Inconsiderate Driving under Section 65(b) Road Traffic Act Chapter 276"

This is my view:

You claimed $3,000 in general damages + $1,440 in repairs + $40 in transport expenses.

They are willing to settle with you by paying you $4,036 for your claim.

Using this $4,036, $1,280 goes to pay the repair bill, and $750 goes to pay your solicitor.

So you can get $2,006 cash now.

There is also additional party-and-party legal costs and disbursements that the other party will pay to your lawyer.

There is only one thing to clarify with the lawyer - the $750 for solicitor and client costs, is this $750 on top of party-and-party costs?

If yes, the $2,006 is the final amount you receive in cash.

He who hesitates is lost!

I am disputing about the deduction why am I being charged for the repair and lawyer bills and not the other party paying it.

wats party-and-party costs?

You seem like you have not asked your lawyer these questions. He will have your answer.

It would appear that the other party's insurer has paid your repair costs in the $4,036 they have offered, in response to your claim of $4,480 (which included $1,440 of repair costs).

The other party's insurer is also paying your party-and-party costs, which is less than your solicitor-and-client costs. Ask your lawyer to explain this to you.
