Though Friday 19 Sept is just the warm up laps and practice sessions, there's also plenty of off-track entertainment, listed below!

 

Spectators at the Bay Grandstand will hear the roar beneath their feet as the cars race past the picturesque waterfront stretch and drive underneath the Bay Grandstand, one of the most unique features of the Singapore track.

 

Because this section of track requires the drivers to negotiate four angled turns (16 to 19) in quick succession, it has proven to be an Achilles’ heel for many of them. In 2013, Daniel Ricciardo’s Toro Rosso hit the wall on the outside of Turn 18 and retired. In 2012, Narain Karthikeyan lost control of his HRT and crashed into the Turn 18 barriers while Bruno Senna in 2010 rammed his car into Kamui Kobayashi’s stationary BMW Sauber which had fallen prey to the same barriers earlier.

 

The Bay Grandstand is perhaps best known for the notorious 2008 Nelson Piquet Junior incident that took place after Turn 17, in addition to bungled moves a year later by Romain Grosjean at the same location.

 

Bay Grandstand ticketholders are spoilt for choice when it comes to food and beverage, with outlets at the grandstand’s undercroft as well as at the nearby Esplanade Theatres by the Bay.

2. Seasick Steve (USA)

Steven Gene Wold, better known as Seasick Steve, is an American blues musician with a gravelly and soulful voice. Before becoming a professional musician, Steve has gone through a myriad of jobs before finding his way into the music industry as a recording engineer and producer in the 1990s.

 

Since releasing his debut album in 2006, Seasick Steve has made television appearances on Jools Holland’s BBC TV Show and has performed at numerous British Music Festivals. Enjoy Steve’s set at the Sunset Stage in Zone 1 on Saturday 20 September.

3. Richard Blues (UK)

Jamaican musician Richard Blues has been entertaining audiences worldwide for the last 20 years. Based in the UK, this guitar-slinging, modern-day poet will engage crowds with his rhythm and stories alike.

 

With regular performances at the Scotland Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Chicago Blues Festival and London’s Covent Garden, Richard Blues will bring his talent to Singapore for the first time ever at the Marina Bay Street Circuit with performances in Zone 4 on Friday 19 September.

4. Vino Veritas (Australia)

Vino Veritas is a Brisbane-based band playing a fusion of Rhumba, Gypsy Jazz and Tango. Comprising two guitarists Nik Almenor and Daniele Vilella, and violinist Christopher Gillespie, the trio has captivated audiences young and old with catchy performances guaranteed to get your feet tapping.

 

Vino Veritas recently performed at the 2014 Adelaide Fringe Festival, and can be seen at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Zone 4 on Friday 19 September.

5. Reuben Stone (New Zealand)

Reuben Stone was talent-scouted in Adelaide, Australia and will perform at the Circuit Park across 5 different stages throughout the race weekend. The professional busker has sold over 3000 copies of his 3 albums that have been written, rehearsed and recorded on the streets of Melbourne.

 

Expect psychedelic rock, drum and bass and a mix of dub in Reuben’s original sound. Catch him at the Coyote Stage and White Bar Stage in Zone 4.

6. Holy Roller and The Smoking Guns (Singapore / UK)

Asia Ability brings to Singapore BeatsWork – one of the most exhilarating team activities to sweep the world. Using the infectious rhythms of samba, BeatsWork will transform a group of individuals into a giant percussion band in just 45 minutes.

 

Workshop participants will be taught the basics of samba beats and breaks, starting by clapping various beats before moving on to different groups of samba instruments. 9. Drum Cat (Korea)

A globally recognized Korean performance dance troupe, Drum Cat will whip audiences into a frenzy of rhythm and fun with their catchy rhythms. The 5-member all-female group first created 11 years ago has since moved into its own exclusive theatre in 2010.
