If you really like it, buy it. Performance will not disappoint you.

Parts are still available in sg, or can even source parts from overseas.

Go for it!

Owned it as my 2nd bike in younger biking days. No regret on this bike. Nice look, good cornering but mine had power cut. Couldn't out run a very old SUZUKI GSX 400 on straight NS highway. Never the less it's one of the smallest compact 400cc sport bike to own. FP1568 was my old plate number. Hehehe.

Of course you might be able to find less then 15 year old rvf, mine was 10 years old before i sold off last year. The very last batch of rvf.

All used bike are all risky buys, but rvf is one of a kind not any other bikes can replicate.

there is no such thing as 15 year old RVF, much less one that is less than 10 years old. the rvf was produced between 1994 and 1996, look it up on the net yourself.

if you claim to have or know of an rvf that is newer than this, there are only 2 possibilities: 1)it was brand new but in the shop for many, many years and hence was technically 'new' as sold, or 2) it was a secondhand grey import from Japan but only registered in singapore within the last 10 or 15 years, and therefore in our local records it was marked as of an age from its initial registration in singapore. records never show the year it leaves the factory, only the year it was first registered for use.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

What can go wrong when bikes sit in showroom for too long?

what happens to a metal tool you keep in your storeroom at home for 3 to 4 years?

rust and corrosion will set in, even if the metal parts do not come into direct contact with moisture. if you properly keep a metal device, in a place sheltered from weather, yet well ventilated, and it is properly lubed regularly even as it lies unused, it can probably remain in good condition free from rust and corrosion for many years.

and remember, the bigger concern is the corrosion/rust you can't see, at the internals and engine parts.

but where are bikes for sale kept? either outdoors exposed to weather for customers to see, or in some dark storeroom. even if it is an indoor well ventilated showroom, for the 5 or 6 years its there, were all the screws and bolts and especially the internals taken apart and re-lubed?

Good point. But it wouldn't be as bad as when it is out there in use, would it?

dont know.

after all, if its in use and maintained properly, a running engine sends lubrication through the internals. thats why ppl will advise if u going to keep a bike unused for long periods, start and run the engine every now and then.

i heard the rectifier is the problem for rvf. How is it a problem? As in, the wear n tear all..

Posted
Yes,if you get a poorly maintained bike

Lets say the bike is in good condition, why do people say the rectifier is the problem?

It could be because it's the high temp from the engine that causes it to spoil easily

Okay. Thanks for the info. Can rvf ride up to KL or further?

First of you must have a reason why u want the bike?

1. Project bike

2. Weekend rides until class 2.

3. Permanent bike. Not getting Class 2.

4. daily commute but getting class 2.

5. Pure passion in RVF.

Ans

1. get it. Its a collector piece after all. Old bike with V4 engine.

2. Up to u. It can be a weekend bike + tons of repair/maintenance work. when u do get class 2. your cash tied up with RVF and cant sell for much.

3. Up to u. Since u are set with this bike for life. Be prepare to spent tons of money to make everything new. But i would rather get super4 for better reliability.

4. Same as point 2. but since u need the bike for daily commute, i rather you spent money on a more reliable bike. after all its more than 10 yr old. how reliable can it be. still use the same old engine. Even they said overhaul so what? unless they replace the entire engine block to new. Thats overhaul..

5. Redundant to answer you. you know what you want.

Used to ride: TA200 -02, WR 200DT -94, VXR 200 -04, CB400 Spec 2 -02, GSXR400RN -92, CB 400 Spec 3 -04, VLX 400 -94, DRZ400SM -06, FZ6 S2 -09

Current bikes : YZF R1 -08
