I didn’t take photo on each step as I was working on the bike alone, I can only take photos when I am having a break.

Anyway, rode the bike from home to office just now, I noticed the engine idling was smoother when I stopped at the traffic lights and the valve tapping sound even softer when the engine has warmed up, no oil leak around cam cover gasket, so far so good and it is time to do a carbs synchronising/balancing, stay tuned. :thumb:

Hi Phang,

Do you service your W400 yourself? If not, who would you trust to maintain your W?

I'm taking over Funfly's W400 when i get my 2A at the end of this month.....i can't wait !! Heeeeeeeeee !!!

Thanks in advance!

Congratulations, so far the W400 is 100% maintained by me. I see maintaining the W as a major part of the ownership joy.

I did the same thing last year, I paid the deposit at MAH and took my Class2a after that. W400 is a relatively simple bike, most of the competent bike shops will be able to do the usual maintenance job for you but I would suggest you don’t meddle with the bevel drive system, the factory setting is the best for cold and warm engine.

Thanks for the tip Phang. I'll do a bit of reading up too...'bevel drive system' sounds like russian to me for now...waahaha!!

I might venture to try doing simple maintenance myself at my work place on weekends at Ubi, Audi Service Center. I'll read up as much as possible first.

Okay if in future i trouble you for advice and expertise ?

Have a great weekend!

You are welcome. I am also a newbie in bike maintenance and will share as much as I know with you guys here.

The W overhead camshaft is driven by a set of spiral bevel gears connecting the crankshaft and camshaft with a reduction ratio of 2:1. Other means of overhead camshaft driving designs are chain driven (most common), belt driven (Ducatis), gear driven (VFR and RVF if I am not wrong). Theoretically bevel gear drive requires less maintenance and adjustment comparing to chain or belt drive but not as quiet, it sounds like a sewing machine.

Wah Phang! you using race standard HH EBC pads for your W400....

Excellent choice. Super biting power. Have you re-lined to steel braideds too?

But why buy from so far, it's available locally. is it a lot cheaper?

I'm no longer on my Triumph as you may know. My Z1000 is still on stock brake pads but when it wears out i'll most likely install EBC HH rated as well.

Somehow.....it's back to Kawasaki for me.......

Bro, I have spent a few weeks looking for this FA231HH locally and none of the shops I went have this in stock so I gave up and ordered it online, save my time and trouble. I paid around S$120 for 2 sets inclusive of all the shipping and vpost charges. I have changed my stock brake hose to HEL braided hose 2 months ago.

I have read that you sold your T-bird and bought a Z1K… Let the good times roll.. haha

I was using the EBC HH for my ZX9R on the track.

recall I paid $140 for 2 sets in front .

I'm also using Hel brakelines on the Z1000....heehee

have tried goodridge, Swage PLot and now HEL.

hope to still join the vintage bikes meetup if i hv time.

Hey Phang, I'm riding the W400 already! Geat bike and loads of fun!

My bike seem to have a life of it's own...when i reach a destination and come to a stop..the engine kills itself ! This happened a few times already, and never at traffic stops...Should i christian my bike? waahahha!!

Do you think it is okay to use Silicon Lubricant for the chain? I sprayed all screws with silicon but a bit hesitant with the chain.

Thanks in advance!

Congratulations, you need to ride more to run in the engine. The engine will loosen up after 2000 to 3000km. As the mileage increase, your fuel consumption will improve bit by bit too and stabilise at around 24km/L(for my bike).

Silicon lubricant is friendly to the X-ring of your chain but why not using a proper chain lubricant?

Heee! Because i get loads of silicon lub available! I'm clocking about 17km/L last time i checked and will be sending it for the 1,000km servicing next week at Mah.

Everyone seem to think it's a Triumph on 1st look...!

There was one for sale not long ago but already snatched up by brother apachezulu.

Comparing with CB400SS, W400 is too heavy for its engine output, the weight of the W400 (190+kgs) is only 2 kgs lighter than the W650. Most of the time I need to give a good whack to the throttle in order to keep up with the traffic at the traffic light junction.

is the w650 any better then?

no better or worse, all depend on each individual preferences:thumb:

Hey Phang, just need to confirm, the W400 has a 17 litres tank yes? If the average FC is 26 litres, in theory i can reach KL with 1 full tank no? That will give me 442 km a tank.

Might turn up for the meet at KKFC to say hello...heeee

Cheers!
