Last night wife tyre ponchek towed to their shop. This morning received a call from them rear tyre cannot be used, hole too big. Asked for M5 tyre was told M5 is made in China and they don't have. They have Z8 and Road 3. Went to shop at 11am, checked their tyres, Z8 one and half yr old tyre, Pilot Power also more than 1 yr old. So we asked for new stock but will have to wait till 3-4pm onwards then can collect. Decided to take up initially and come back shop collect in the evening but as we walking off, we weren't reassured by the fact that the mech said the tyres "should be less than 1 yr old". We had asked this question twice and he could not give a "confirm" answer. This was important to us as we are low milege users and usually don't finish using the tyre thread. Decided not to take up deal as we didn't want to risk coming back in the evening only to find older tyres slapped on. Then suddenly, they now say M5 they can get, but must call the boss to ask to get stock as the boss was not in shop. This inconsistency to me is unacceptable. I felt that they were trying to push old tyres to my wife, S4dreamer. Only when we wanted to pay for services already rendered and tow to other shop then they say have M5 tyre. Not happy. Insisted to pay for tow and worksmanship for tyres that were already removed and requested to fit the ponchek tyre back. The boss, Ah Zhen, whose services I used a few times back in the days when he was chief mech at HKL tried very hard to persuade us not to leave over the phone. His technical skills is competent, but I can't say much about his sales skills. He had wanted to find out why we were unhappy and wanted to leave. When I was explaining why, he seemed more keen on explaining that he was not in shop and wanted to ask for time to wait for him to come back and resolve issue. Had to raise my voice to request price to resolve issue. Want to pay also so troublesome.

My wife later told me when she went Unique (I was not there), they informed her M7 tyres was only 30 bucks more than M5. They laid out 18 front M7 tyres for her to choose and see date of manufacture, and laid out a further 18 rear M7 tyres for her to choose. A total of 36 tyres, one by one off the shelf. I was never expecting such level of service, one perhaps only ladies would get to enjoy. All were under 1 year old tyres and made in Germany. In fact, her tyre is 6 months old rear and 9 months old front. Very fresh. She had changed both since it was a better deal and the front tyre milege was reasonably old at 20k. She even ended up changing both wheel bearings which were worn out.

So well, you can draw your conclusions about the difference in customer satisfaction and both shops' supply of tyres. I'm not a regular Unique customer by the way. I frequent the other big shark who's a damn good businessman, none other than Planet Motor's Ah Chong. For important things I always go to him because I trust his competency, reliability and price competitiveness. As a self employed running my own freelance business, I have to say, Unique's business practice has impressed me and it contrasts sharply with less customer oriented shops. I would certainly consider going to their shop at Toh Guan.

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

i think your wife is lucky enough to view all 36 tyers u mentioned above.

1st thing-she is a female, secondly i doubt it is a class 2b bike.

another thing, they give a different look on 2b bikes.

the previous time i went to toh guan is for my front brake issue. mech see see touch a while then say much change whole set.

dont believe them, argue nicely with them awhile, then i went to planet. all they did was re-bleed the brake pump and my front brake pump is good to go. this was like 2 years back.

Unique is kinda good just that sometimes their stuff is abit exp. but it is the most reputable shop in the west when they open in April(think is 2011).

but anyway, i stop going to them ever since my last experinece with them. i stay in the west so i wont go to ah chong unless there is any big/major issue.

so i try to find some in the west region, another shop i found is at jalan tukang, boss is ah meng. not bad i would say, boss and the mechs there know thier stuff.

anyway good for you, you have another shop on hand for your bike.

Agree with u Planet standard is hard to fight. Partly is coz Ah Chong is always there. But given Kelvin has a few shops to run, his management can do until take out 36 tyres to let s4dreamer see i have nothing to say liao. Agree with u also ladies tend to get better service everywhere. Also, yes, perhaps class 2 gets a little better service. Too bad we don't wear skirt :deal:

To be fair to Unique, their prices quite competitive. For example, the Chex engine oil we can get at Ah Chong i think Unique sell same price.

Same as u, i stay West, will try to go planet, especially major issues or if have time. But unique really giving a good fight :deal:
