agree with your wife, bro!

but then I think it happens to majority that "earn as much as you can when young to have a relax and good retirement"

today one maybe earning 5k a month, one will definitely hope to earn 10k a month and the sum goes on and on - endless. we can never be satisfied. what is exactly the sum one will be contented?

it depends on one's focus at one point of their life.

for us, I think we passed that age ourselves and look at matters from a different angle.

young people have the "go" and yearn to climb the corporate ladder at certain age or even having a targetted of their monthly income at certain age.

for your case, maybe if you arent alone, you may have a different feel of dubai. how many people have hopes to be posted out of singapore and in turn earning big(ger) bucks in their pockets? "earn when you can"

certainly... i used to have that thought when i was much younger... earn big money and then migrate to NZ for retirement...

pace in SG is too fast and most of the time, we are just rushing thru day after day... therefore, the yearn to have a good retirement is always at the top of my mind...

i am sure this thought would have crossed most singaporeans' mind at one time or another...

frankly, when first started work (19 yrs old)... i used to tell myself that i will be very content to earn $4k a month... i dun need luxury... just contented to be average singaporean...

and frankly till now, i have never wanted to earn $10k a month... cos i see alot of people that earn that much dun have a balanced life... everyday is just work and work... the fact is that when you are up there... you carry the responsibilities to make things happen...

i never have that ambition to climb high in the corporate ladder... i am just a happy go lucky guy that just wants to do my job, collect my pay and be happy with my family...

actually, when i first decided to move out of the gov sector and come into this job is the opportunity to travel around to see the world when i am still able to. when i have kids, i will switch to a deskbound job...

earning the extra dollars is just an additional bonus for me... but it always comes back to the point that how much is enough?

i have lost focus in my life and just too caught up with like what you say, money that extra dollar... maybe it is a good time for me to refocus on what are my real priorities in life?

i see this your statement from different angles...

either you are encouraging me to bite the bullet and hold on to the job... cos there is always issues relating to work. no job is problem-free.

or you telling me that i should lay down my work and balance with my other aspects of my life...

either way, i guess it still comes back to the point about what is my priorities in life...

thanks for reply...

hmm... actually its more of e first.

though $$ is nt everything but without it, u cant do alot of things..

esp since almost everything needs it.

def true.. higher pay = more responsibility.. tis is a fact.

yup. definitely true. u are still like only 10 yrs into ur working life.. i foresee myself working till 50++, basically is need $$ to maintain a comfy lifestyle as well as something to do to keep myself from being bored.

well.. tat is mine. u gotta tabulate on urs and choose wat to give up and wat to hold on to.

frankly for us, we had the intention to get out of spore when we hit a certain age too just like what you mention here. somewhere where it is slower in pace and being able to take things much ezier. somehow, such thoughts came to us when we were younger? for now, we are just coming to accept things as they come about.

looking at some old folks who had retired and gone back to work perhaps due to being too free after they retire and having the lost feeling. we tell ourselves we do not wish to be in their shoes now.

we wana enjoy when we can and hoping that we can stretch as far as possible not to rely on others in life.

like you said, there are people who had earned big bucks and simply do not have time for their own. most of their time devoting to others. we agreed with you. like I said, how much is enough? this is a bottomless pit that human simply cant fill up.

my wife told me in her previous place, lots of colleagues had initially love the thought of being posted overseas. apparently, they didnt surive long in the company. they were like you - it was like in a year, a total of less than a month in spore with their family. they left the company. some pursue another job while others gone into biz venture on their own

reasons they gave for their departure seemed very much the same - too much time outside singapore and no time for family.

cheer up bro! totally understand when one is in another place whereby friends and family are in another.
