If the COE keep rising, it become difficult for people who really needs affordable transportation, especially those working in area that is very far from bus/mrt

Ya agree.Government raise COE for cars and bikes asking people to take public transport but end up public transport fare also raise. Win Win situation for them.

Posted
Sorry, should be if a bike shop uses an old COE he kept on a new bike. Will there be an additional owner to the bike?

Yes, because he bid the COE using other names and subsequently transfer to you so you will be tyhe second owner but brand new bike.

Hello, are you there......

I think in the short term it may go up a little to maybe 7-8k but it is probably hard to sustain 10k range. Majority bikes are 2B and some 10+% class 2. With high coe prices, its hard for students, lower income earners and part time workers to buy new bike, pushing some demand over to second hand market. We now see shops like Unique advertising to acquire old bikes, betting on making profit.

As with cars, when coe gets too high, cat B luxury cars continue to sell and cat A small cars harder to sell. Likewise, class 2 bike buyers are less affected by coe. The bike already so ex. Not much difference.

I think the small percentage of tourers, track bikers and commuters passionate about bikes is insufficient to sustain 10k price range for coe. I've renewed my coe when it was 1.7k and have 9 yrs to go. So, the prices don't concern me anyway. Have never bought a first hand bike either.

dont forget the number of COEs released shrunk by a lot. So the pie is now smaller... assuming class 2 & bike passionate ppl are not affected by the price and remain the same number, their % will increase as 2B & budgent conscious owners drop out of the pie

coe will not come down any time soon. majority of the bids are done by bike shops. the bikeshops will continue to bid high so that they wont make a loss on the existing coes they are holding.

like what others say.. only chance of coe coming down is change in govt policy

Posted
Why bikeshop bid so high ?? The high the COE , the more money majority will have to loan from bike shop if they pay by installment . You do the maths...

That is the reason why you can see so many legal loan shark (money lender) in Singapore now! Those can't pay for COE to extend their existing bike but need a decent transport to travel around or do a very small business they can easy borrow from these shop in the neighborhood! Some time you will received SMS that they can lend you money in the fastest way!

Previously years do you see alot of these money lenders? If you don't like to borrow, another way is go to Singapore Pool try your luck they are also every where now!

Is not the matter of working hard, is money not enough to cover HIGH COST OF LIVING here! Last time is work 9 to 5, now all have to work 7 to 11 or midnight! Most work in the same company have to cover their colleague's jobs. Now you can see a lot of young ppl having heart attack, why "STRESS"!

Big Bonus, dun think in Singapore maybe out or thousands companies only 1 give big bonus, you can see big travel agent, spa company.... close down! How about others, are the existing companies still making money or just enough to sub stain to cover their monthly expenses????

Posted

so sad, my company no mid year bonus. they blame on lower fuel prices. and no SG50 money also.

I see differently leh... out of CBD, more n more ppl leaving at 5 now. On Fridays, u start to see heavy traffic fm 4.30 onwards! n most of my friends also now spending less time at work for more money. But of cos, some choose to work longer hours for even more money. Most of the increase in expense is not because of actual increase in price but more of increase in expense due to "higher quality lifestyle" like dining out more etc

I'm curious to see you saying money not enough to cover high cost of living. CAre to share details? I also money not enough but its due to personal n family choices.

I'm more concerned about those who are really low income earners with family/kids/old parents.. usually no time to surf here n posts ah.

You must see what type of job you work as :) Did you try taking MRT around 10pm. I saw there saw lots of crowd on one of the Friday nite and was shock. These ppl all look like after work!

From CTE coming back from City side usually on week days you can see heavy traffic and in the taxi all hired! Those are ppl just off duty!

Most of the increase in expense is not because of actual increase in price but more of increase in expense due to "higher quality lifestyle" like dining out more etc

I agreed dining outside is more costly, if you cook at home and is only cater for 2 to 3 person is also not cheap and easily! Planning, cooking and buying items to cook for small number of ppl is not easy! Unless if you are single like I knew some ppl. even if they are married they still stay with their parent. Don't need to worry, don't need to give monthly expenses, don't need to cook parent will cook, don't need to worry if any house hold machine is faulty parent will take care, ...... expenses no worry! Of course some will give monthly expenses but other problem they don't bother! Some even spend what they earn without giving money to parent!

I knew a few cases couple had new home but rent it out and stay with parent with their kids but I don't know how these ppl going to share with the profit;)

First before I share with you, may I know from you if you don't mind:

1) Are you single or married?

2) Are you staying alone or with your parent?

3) If you are married do you have a kid(s) to take care?

4) Do you need to take care of your parent and give monthly allowance?

5) If your parent are old and have a lot of illness you do take leave from your company to bring them to hospital/ clinic? Visiting by bus/ taxi/ your bike ;)

6) If you have kid do you have to paid other expenses?

7) Do you help your parent to pay for replacement faulty household machines?

8) Beside your bike what other commitment do you have?

9) Mind if I can know your age group below 20, below 30, below 40, below 50 or below 60?

*At first my brother in law don't understand why money is not enough till he is married and stay by himself! He told us even 1 spoon or folk he have to buy where else stay with parent don't care just give monthly allowance will do. When any of the house hold machines spoil wow got to spend money again and his salary is standard but thing (price) is going up!:cry::cry: This is expenses bro!

*** If you compare same item (product) sold here and else where the price is real different!

*** If you observe enough for example Shampoo same price as b4 or cheaper now but the amount is less and it is more diluted!

*** I try buying medication from watson for stop diarrhea b4 they sell 1 strip (10 pills) but now they don't sell 1 strip but 6 strips! Are we having diarrhea everyday??:cheeky:

Yes there is an inflation in the whole world but compare item to item (A to A NOT A to B) you pay very high price here.

One more question for you bro, do you know in the olden days hawker license are given to those who are lower income or ppl that need help! The government is trying to help these people to help themselves to earn a living. That why now for small number old hawkers you still can get cheap and good food because their rental is cheap but in future i don't think so. As you can see who is running the hawker business and some hawkers has many store around Singapore! Their price is no more cheaper!

There is hawkers who tell me is not they want to sell high price, it is the high rental, high PUB, high conservice fee, collecting of dishes and washing... that is high! Some time they have to close for a period of time for cleaning or renovation of hawker centre there is no income! How who pay their salary?

Last week I eat at woodland yong tau foo for $3.50 for 7 to 8pcs + noodle but you go food court junk food is $5-6. In Jurong side I still can buy ice kacang for $1 from old hawker and noodle for $2! Too bad the noodle owner hawker has given up the stall due to old age :( can you find any cheaper price?

I had spoken to a Malay uncle who is now retire, he told me for those who don't travel around countries and talk to ppl they don't understand the different. Till they talk and open their eye to see then they will know.

I believes now middle income also feel the pain there!

Singapore is a good place to stay but you must pay for it !

bro.. all those ppl u see going back after 10pm.. is after work go makan, drink n dating lar.. I used to be like dat.. everyday after work go gym, then eat drink etc.. reach home late everyday.

come, I share u share...

First before I share with you, may I know from you if you don't mind:

1) Are you single or married? >> Married

2) Are you staying alone or with your parent? >> Staying in my own home with my wife, 2 kids and mil (& helper)

3) If you are married do you have a kid(s) to take care? >> 2

4) Do you need to take care of your parent and give monthly allowance? >> They stay on their own, I give monthly allowance. mil stay with me

5) If your parent are old and have a lot of illness you do take leave from your company to bring them to hospital/ clinic? Visiting by bus/ taxi/ your bike ;) >> Sometimes they go themselves, sometimes I drive them

6) If you have kid do you have to paid other expenses? >> the usual sg family commitment... child care fees, utilities, car, insurances, mortgage, reno loan

7) Do you help your parent to pay for replacement faulty household machines? >> Me & my brother pay for all appliances at our parents place

8) Beside your bike what other commitment do you have? >> Mortgage, car

9) Mind if I can know your age group below 20, below 30, below 40, below 50 or below 60? >> mid 30

Singapore is a good place to stay but you must pay for it !

sure money is tight, in fact can barely survive, but if I cut down on dining outside (restaurants), buying organic groceries whenever available, good cut meats fm high end buchery, reduce going out drinking with friends, specialised products for kids, eat cheaper ice cream, cheaper home appliances, dont spend so much on reno or house etc, will have better cash flow.

When you get older and your parent get older the expenses is even more! I believe your kids is ard 10 and your parent is like 40plus or 50?

I used to drive a car then change to a van but given up! Now parent (in law) are getting older 76 more problem comes in almost every week visit hospital for review, can't walk well must take taxi! Both last year and this year admit hospital, that was a crazy part all family member goes nightmare! Hospital bill was high and all expenses goes up rushing up and down from hospital like dun have to work!

I dun drive is becos if I had a job at private estate no place to park, will get fine min $80 but my job i earn $80. Who make the money? I dun eat restaurant as well in fact 90+% are hawker centre! Most of time eat 1 meal for breakfast and lunch or 1 meal for lunch and dinner!

Since you have 2 kids, i believes if you bring both with a family of 4 for outing, with $50 sometime is not enough to cover petrol, parking, food.. right?

If you do marketing you will find the price keep going up. That is high cost of living!

Of course if you drive you can shop cheaper price else where, not to mention JB is the common place but for those don't drive they have to end up buying expensive stuff in their neighborhood.

I had relatives from Malaysia, Taiwan and US they came to Singapore said in Singapore here spend money here is like burn money as everything is so ex! The food portion is so small and expensive here!

bro, I mid 30s, u saying my parents underage when i came out ah?!

anyway, u're trying to say that I havent seen the impact of the high cost of living in sg? u're totally wrong.

Of cos its clear that SG is now a very expensive place to be in. So? We generally earn more than those countries u mentioned to. Plus we get free housing from our so called monthly income tax called CPF. I know u will diagree with me on this... but let's see the facts... most of use fully rely on our CPF to pay for housing and little or no cash top up.

Not easy to have a good life on SG sure, but not difficult to survive too. We cant change Singapore, so let's spend more time n effort to benefit from the various system. Shall we discuss on that?

I think the most important expense we need to hedge ourselve against is medical. So we should, must, die die have our own private insurance. This one cannot avoid.. the medisave/plus/shield or whatever CPF related insurance u have need to be supplemented with additional insurance that you pay in CASH monthly/yearly. Go for term insurance to keep prices low rather than those investment/endowment linked plan.

The insurance should not just be for you... you should pay insurance for ALL your dependents. Kids, parents, wife/s etc...

come your turn bro, whats the next most important expense n what do we need to do to survive in sg?

That's what the Govt wants you to think, work hard, save, so life will be better.

Then they increase prices, there's no limit to how high they can increase, there is a limit to how long you can go without sleeping.

IMO, work hard for a time, then make the money work for you.

In Singapore there is no resources, the people here are their resources! Even the salary you make will always not enough/ faster then price increase! live with it :( Now you can see so many hospitals coming up is to prolong your lives ;) So if money not enough, be prepare to work until you die in future not 60, 70 or 80
