[Trip Report] The Twisty Tour - Ride to Gerik : 9 to 12 Aug 07

hows the traffic at the gerik highway... it is as bad as ns highway

 

its not a freeway like NSHW. its jus a route through tht hilly range, when we went on a fri morning traffic was light but ones in while we got stuck behind some coach or truck. So had to wait for a long straight to over take or a mild right bend where we cld still have a gd view of the on comming traffic.

I realized I had some Gerik pics lying around - these are from three years ago when I had a few days free during CNY.

I went through Frasier Hill, then through Gua Musang, into Gerik and Penang.

 

From Penang it was a crazy day down North on the highway - got off at Ipoh for Cameron Highlands. It was good riding till the summit where I had to battle through throngs os holiday makers. The ride down was somewhat crowded as well, but it was a bit dangerous dodging and squeezing past trucks, buses and car. Amazing as the bike rolled into JB the recitifier gave way. I got a shop to give the bike a lift to the causeway for 100RM. Then it was pushing across the causeway up till the Spore side before I gave up.

 

By then I had gone about 800km and only had 2 plain pratas in the morning in Penang!

 

Luckily they was a free towing service from the causeway to Woodlands.

Nice pics of Gerik! They show the real beauty of the place. We were having too much fun riding, we didn't want to stop to snap pictures!

 

Is there a direct route from Frasers Hill to Gerik? I was thinking of doing a hills ride - Frasers, Cameorn and Gerik!

Gerik-cameron-fraser's hill = nshw-R76-gerik-R4-jeli-R66-gua musang-cameron-gua musang-R8-fraser-R55-rawang-nshw

 

cameron-gerik-fraser's = nshw-exit 132 tapah-R59-cameron-gua musang-R66-jeli-R4-gerik-R76-nshw-behrang-R55-fraser-R55-rawang-nshw

 

My simple route??? Though it can be jumble up too.....ur choice!

I did the route, East to West and stayed the night at Kuala Terengganu and made my way to Jeli in the morning.

 

We pumped from Kuala Terengganu and topped up just before Jeli. Then it was all they way through the twisties, exit at Gerik town and ride up to Kuala Kangsar.

 

Topped up at the Petronas there and made our to KL.

 

Thats as best as I remember.

 

N tks for the suggestions on the route. Wil look into it and do this in time to come! Watch out for it on my blog!
