Good meeting Versys rider F6172 at Jln Bt Merah just now.

Topbox may spoil the overall appearance of the bike, but if the right one is chosen, it is not that bad. Besides, you can then cut through traffic easily.

Cheers.

Thats must be the guy i met and spoke to this evening at the traffic light at jln bt merah/lower delta junction. We both went down lower delta then onto tiong bahru rd. He turned up henderson rd while i went towards redhill. Even my 3yo son was fascinated by how i could wind down window to talk to a biker.

He didnt have topbox. I was at the traffic light and saw this bike in the side mirror. Guessed it was the Versys, so I wound down the window to look back and give him the thumbs up. He acknowledged and smiled. I asked if it was the Versys, he said yup. He then rode up closer to my car but couldnt move much cos of the panniers.

Talked about his side panniers too big to allow him to squeeze inbetween. Suggested he consider a nice topbox to go along with the bike as a practical alternative to allow squeezing but he said topbox spoil the shape of the bike... I said I know, but no choice, I supposed.

Lights changed, we turned into the same road, but he honked as he sped ahead into Tiong Bahru Rd and I responded with a wave. If only all motorists in Singapore did the same.. and there will be less accidents on the roads.

Cheers!

On the contrary, I find that it will be better to get Class 3 first and drive for at least 10 years before picking up bike licence. Observe the vulnerability of a biker as a driver, and then go for bike lessons to feel what it is like to be a biker. Once behind the wheel again, appreciate the rider's safety and then both will end up responsible rider and driver. Anyway, when one is older and more mature, he/she is less likely to want to do stupid things and risk his life/safety.

That was the route I took. 15 yrs with Class 3 before taking that step with bike licence (without parents' knowledge, but with wife's blessings and encouragement). I find that when riding, I take the effort to ensure full safety and also anticipate ahead, and when driving, more tolerant of bikers and also other motorists... and as such, a more patient motorist. If my 3yo boy wants to take up biking, I will advise him on the same. Class 3 first with at least 10 yrs experience before learning to ride. Besides, he'd have more $$ then to buy a really big and expensive bike.

on my view i dun reali agree with u.. *peace*

10years as a driver den wan to know how a biker feel isn't that gonna be too late? 10years many thing can happen, accident, injured or even killed a biker.

on my view i rather sillypore to educate the driver about bikers rather den keep telling bikers not to do this do that..

there are much much more cars on the road den bikes.

if u notice those bikers that met an accident either injured or died, how many percent is it that its caused by a movement of a driver.

minor percent of the accident are cause by biker itself's action.

like splitting lane, we know that amount of space we can pass through 1, but that driver choose to change lane, or move abit w/o checking his/her mirror and blind spot that cause the bike to crash into the vehicle.

Eh just checked, my tyre is 120/60.. but then ah, I also never see when installing mah... so not right to make noise at them

Btw, doesnt seem to affect my riding

Whao u need to check urs is 120/60 anot liao

If yes better go back to them and demand a change

Its not about hard you can hit, its about how many times you can take a hit and remain standing

My view on this... if i may be allowed to contribute:

is that both rider and drivers need to be educated and orientated to the roads and the different vehicles.

Biker often dont understand the POV of a car/lorry and drivers often do not understand the intention of a biker.

so there should be some sort of a course that helps you.

I remember sitting in the driver seat of a car for the 1st time after 2 years as a biker and realising the huge difference.

Having said that, many of our younger/newer riders are really quite irresponsible and tend to push their luck alot - this causes drivers to be negative towards bikers and often less attentive.

nope, they should bear the cost. coz u ask for the same tire size and u trust them BUT they didn't give u the correct ones.

so they should still bear the cost...

anyway if u reali dun wan bother den its up to u :D

there should be a reason why they setup tis bike stock with 120/70

though i dun have my license for very long time, 3 years since i passed my class 3 and 2b, i dun see how hard is it to check mirror and blind spot b4 changing lane while driving..

i nvr had a near miss or cause any biker to slow down for me to change lane...

those driver are jus too dun bother about bike, thinking we are so small why should i give way, instead i driving big exp car bike should give way to me coz u are so small.

Since we share the road with different kind of users...we have to respect them all in one way or another.

We cannot change other peoples mindset but we can change & control our mindset.

Ride safely & Defensively plus take nothing for granted when out riding on the road.

Bikers are vulnerable and i dont see the point of being DEAD right in any situation.

We must have the passion to Live to ride another day.

However there are 2 things that drivers annoy me.

1. When i am behind a car on the outter most lane the driver dont give way(no horn & flash headlite but tail driver at safe distance) so i overtake on his left but later same driver give way to another car and move to the left lane.

2. When slowing down cos traffic light in front is RED, drivers manoeuvre and change lane suddenly without signalling or give due care to others as if like jockeying for race position and then they start digging their noses while waiting for the lights to turn green.

Take Great care and ride on Versysian.

agree ur point...

2 weeks back there was a TP came to AFTC to talk to us about road safety, i asked why tp do not catch road hoggers

den give all his story, eg, he say a lumbo going very so @ expressway, den he close up and have a look and saw a old auntie inside.

den he say he dun bear to fine her.. -_- wtf right.

den another story is a lady drive very slowing @ expressway so he ask her to stop, and check her licence card, that he found out she that day jus passed.

another WTF right, 1st day pass got licence card liao.. wan to lie also dunno how to lie...
