Hi, I was quoted $90 per brake pad for my front brakes, so a total of $180 to change them.

The bike is a Hornet 600 and the shop Boon Siew service center. The guy said the pads were original though, but it still seems to be very expensive. The highest price I found online was about $50 for OEM pads.

On my previous bike it cost me around $20...

What do you think?

Its a known fact that Agent's OEM Brake Pads (Sintered HH ) are very pricey.

Those 20ish bucks brake pads that you use to pay, I am quite certain that they are non sintered, they should be the ceramic/organic brake pads. They are not as good as sintered brake pads.

OK, thanks a lot. I didn't there was different types of brake pads (ceramics/sintered).

May I know roughly what the advantage of sintered ?

i.e. last longer and brake better (thus safer) ?

Thanks again

Sintered offer better braking. Sintered from Gold Fren S3 racing should cost you less than $20 per side at FJT.

For SBS and Vesrah about $37 EA.

Sintered brake pads have higher coefficient of friction compare to ceramic pads.

In another words the higher friction rating gives you more effective braking. And this can be translate into more confidence in your riding.

So i would say its of course safer.

I heard from a track-enthusiast source that sintered brake pads are constructed with (put it simply) tougher materials, which makes it good for high-load braking, such as track-riding.

As such, if I were to experiment sintered vs organic brake pads over a course of a few days on 2 similar bikes, the organic brake pads would wear faster.

Can anyone confirm this?
