Well...it seems like everyone is changing bikes, be it from small bikes to bigger ones or vice versa.

All bikes have their pros and cons.

Big bikes: Heavier, but very much stable. Maintenance wise is not that cheap and fuel consumption is much higher compared to smaller bikes.

It is good for long distant travelling esp. NSW. Not easy to move around in congested area where traffic volume is high and not practical to

squeeze in and out of traffic jams. But overall is still a good machine especially when having a pillion with you.

Small bikes: Light, easy to move around in tight corners and heavy traffic, cheap on fuel, repairs and maintenance, but will not be that easy when having a pillion with you. For urban travelling esp. around Little India, China Town alleys, big bikes are no match for them.

Overall it is still up to each and every individual expectations and taste. As for Sg roads, a mid size bike will be just more than enough for

travelling around. But if we are able to possess a class 2 license, why not make full use of it. Just my thoughts and my 2 cents worth.

Welcome to join us DV Club, bro diesel !!!!

As for servicing, I go to Ah Peng (mech). His workshop is behind and associated with Mah Motorparts.

Location:

Dunlop Street ( off Jln Besar) - at the 1st backlane , on the left side, behind Mah Motorparts.

Mah Motorparts (front) is directly opposite side to Sim Lim Tower.

You can mention my name (johnson - NT700V White). Btw, Bro Honda Rider also does service on his Deauville there.

Today I'm going to service my bike in the afternoon @ his workshop.

Happy Riding. Ride Safe.

I recently changed by brakes, front bearings, Bridgesport L Valves and tires at Unique Motorsport at Toh Guan Road East Enterprise Hub. What I liked about the place is that all the prices are fixed and displayed on their website. You know exactly what the price is before you pay. Mechanics seems quite competent. Only drawback is that you have to wait around for them to get the job done. Alternatively, can walk to IMM for shopping and coffee. Might try them for my next servicing. Their details are in the advertisers' forum.

Have any bros here tried to de-restrict our NT exhaust before?

Hi Bro diesel,

To de-restrict ( you mean to de-cat ) the exhaust system? If it is correct, just to share the info. De-cat will not provide you with fuel efficiency, consumption is still the same. The good points are it is smoother, not so hot ( the heat fan will not starts on easily ) and you don't feel any vibrations at all. The pick up is better at low end, mid range is good and overtaking is fast, but top end is still almost similar. No difference at all compared to stock exhaust.

Hi, honda rider..

Yes I mean to de cat the exhaust system. Seems alot of pros of doing it..

Have u done it? Keke.

Will it fail the emission check during inspection?

Will it sound bassier?

Tks for sharing

I'm thinking of doing that too... :)

However, it would not be easy to find a stock exos for inspection.

Catalytic converters, are responsible for igniting and burning unburned engine exhaust gases.

Removing it is illegal, but the pros are :

Increased Horsepower

Vehicle that have their catalytic converters removed experience an increase in engine horsepower. Catalytic converters create a significant source of engine back-pressure due to the constrictive effects they have on exiting engine exhaust gases. Removal of catalytic converters from vehicles allows exhaust gases to exit their engines much faster and at higher levels.

Lower Engine Operating Temperature

Since removing a catalytic converter lessens the burden on a vehicle's engine by enabling engine exhaust to vacate the engine more easily, a net effect is a reduction in engine operating tempereature. The more easily an engine functions and the less work it has to do results in less friction, less load and, ultimately, a lower operating temperature.

Slightly louder Exhaust Sound

Catalytic converters operate like car mufflers, whose sole purpose is to muffle the sound of exiting engine exhaust gases. Although catalytic converters burn unburned exhaust gases exiting an engine, thus making tail pipe emissions cleaner, they also further muffle a car's exhaust sound and creates a somewhat timid, tempered exhaust sound. Without a catalytic converter, a car's exhaust sound becomes a little louder, a little deeper and more distinctive.

Overall, I have friends who had done it, but for those with newer bikes that need computer mapping every now and then, it is advisable not to de-cat unless you do a re-tuning on the fuel and air intake. You need not changed to stock exhaust for inspection as most will passed the emission test.

Thks bro... Seems to be a yummy mod. I have done it to my car only but never done it to a bike before. Open Pod filter and operated exos are good for high end which the deauville lacks :)

Any of the DV riders done the DeCat? :)

Just to share an experience on my previous ride,

I did not do a DeCat.. The mechanic drill a few holes on the exhaust 'baffle' or silencer.

End results are, a slightly louder exhaust , with better throttle response n slightly better pick up.

I m sharing all this becos I find that the DV exhaust 'sound' pretty restrictive .

An good example will be the XR400, significant increase in performance after removing the baffle

(screw on) but risk of getting Free inspection ticket by LTA patrol . Haha

I probably do the baffle mod and update the Pros here again..

When de-cat ur exhaust, u might wanna change your pilot jets, im.riding a transalp 650 which is the exact same engine with the deauville, i de cat my exhaust and it was running really lean so i went to up my pilot jet by one size, consumption wise im not sure as my speedometer cable kaput so cant monitor but so far base on my travelling routine, theres not much diff but low end definitely improved, more torquey more responsive. Hope this info sharing is.useful :)

Just got my bike back from First Motor, where Mr. Lim as usual did an excellent job on my fairing. This time the locking system for the side box finally broke :-(

Think I have had damage to more than half of the fairing so far, but they always manage to patch it back together...

Also admired their restoration work on some Honda Steeds: The single seater bobber version nearly wanted me to give up my Deauville.... and then common sense kicked back in: Shaft drive, fairing, plenty of storage space: booooring but practical like hell. The Deauville is a keeper for now
