I'm a new GSR4 rider (2 weeks) and just finished my first tank.

1. However the fuel consumption is only abt 17km/L, which is pretty low considering i rarely go above 7k rpm. Will be changing my riding style for my 2nd tank and see how it goes. But what could have affected the FC so much?

2. I'm thinking if i need a rear slider because i have a top box. Won't the topbox hit the ground first, acting like a 'slider'?

I would like to share a downloadable link for the gsr manual. The Scribd one that most of us know cannot be downloaded unless with premium account.

There are a lot of factors dat constribute to ur bike fuel consumption.. U may want to check for tyre pressure, ur rpm idling, ur chain n sprocket, ur fuel injection affectiveness and also the kind of engine oil u r using..

My mother told me not to talk to strangers....but oh well!

First, welcome to the group and congratulations on your purchase. Thanks for the link there.

Bout your FC. How do you gauge whether the bike is on reserve? The bike is on reserve when the last bar and the pump icon is blinking in tandem with each other.

One way of calculating is to set your Trip 1 or 2 as your main calculation for mileage and divide that by the amount of petrol you pump.

If your bike is at 70k odd or 80k odd mileage, you'll need to do valve clearance and throttle body synchronization, that'll help in getting back some savings. Also, at that mileage, you should do some checks on your fuel injectors.

Also, if your bike comes with aftermarket air filter and exhaust, it'll also affect your FC if you don't tune it correctly using a Air to Fuel ratio controller such as ICON II, Power Commander III and V.

Your wrist control also plays a large part. Even though you do not go above 7k rpm but fast acceleration will also sap your petrol savings.

Your sprocket ratio also plays a part in your FC, given that adjustments to your sprocket teeth will result in higher acceleration and thus, higher FC. Our stock sprocket ratios are 14T/4T for front and rear sprocket.

Decreasing size of front sprocket and increasing size of rear sprocket will cause your bike to accelerate faster.

As said by fad58, do maintain your tire pressure as tires with lower pressure will result in higher drag and resistance force, again, higher FC, though not by a large margin. More importantly for it, is to reduce unnecessary wear and tear to your tires.

Idling will not affect FC that much as your bike will not idling at that position for a long time but do follow manufacturer's recommendation of 1.1k to 1.3k rpm idling as it'll help your engine not to die when you do slow turns.

Thanks. I have read back close to 100 pages of this thread and i'm really impressed with lex's replies.

With regard to tuning, how do they know whether the mix is too rich or lean?

Anyway, really looking forward to the next DIY session!

Yeah, like what Fx have mentioned. Our bike's fuel mapping is govern by the ECU, factory mappings (which is good enough) and there is no other way to change unless you have a Air/fuel ratio controller.

So no worries about tuning.

Anyway, there's a meet up session tonight at KKFC. Join us if you care?

Hi all fellow GSR riders,

My GSR 400 front brake caliper was stolen and I am looking for a used one and wonder if anyone of you have a original one laying around to sell.

Just a stupid question maybe, do our insurance cover theft for parts?

Appreciate your reply.

Thank you.

Depends on your insurance plan, but most of the time insurance cover of theft of parts applies to cars only, give your insurance co a call!

for motorcycle parts theft, normally its covered only if you take COMPREHENSIVE. The rest, TPFT and 3rd Party Only, does not cover motorcycle parts theft.

Only covers original items on the bike. So if your aftermarkets parts get stolen, it's not covered. Also need to pay excess and premiums up next renewal.

Actually can still be done to cover the aftermarket stuffs. Dun it before with NTUC. Need to list down the items and prices. NTUC will charge additional $50 for every $1000 of parts. Its the same like car where their audios are not covered and they actually top up to protect them.

That's like paying 50% more over 10 years w/o getting anything. No wonder NTUC is so profitable.

Hahaha...Not so true unless your whole bike is full of aftermarket stuff. Previously only added $150 extra to my premium. Ohh ya forgot to add, this only works with comprehensive plan. Won't work with third party only or third party fire and theft.

I dun mind adding extra for peace of mind. Since comprehensive on GSR400 last time is around $400. Now on a GSR750. Insurance under $400 for fire and theft.

Anyway Insurance company like dat one. You dun get nothing until something happens. If something happens, then it depends on which company you are on. Some will KPKB until you give up and still get nothing out of it. Comes back to the saying

Cheap may not always be Good

Good might not be cheap.
