i want to know is there a special charger for a battery for bikes?

my battery is getting flat, sometimes on the road the engine dies itself.

the battery indicator is also on whenever i wanna start the bike, in the morning before i go out also on.

i read on the batt that it will charge itself, but i dont think its enough to charge by itself. i read that we can get charger at eg. mustafa to charge the batt, but i scared will overcharge it, becos once overcharge the batt will be useless already rite? and on the batt also got warning say 'never overcharge'.

so if i wanna charge, how would i know if its full so tat i wont overcharge it. and where can i get this charger?

thks and sorry for being lengthy. :)

If your engine dies halfway, it has nuthin to do with your battery.

Here's what a weak battery does :-

1. It doesn't allow your bike to crank

2. No lights. Zilch.

The battery supplies current to charge your starter motor to provide that initial crank, to start your bike.

Thereafter, it will just supplies electricity to your lights, horns etc.

It recharges itself when you're on the move.

If it dies, it only meant you're better off changing to a new battery as the old one is dying.

Also, a weak battery after few months of changing meant, your bike is not recharging the battery at an optimum level.

Last but not least, if you had reason to believe you wanna charge your bike separately, just charge it before you go to sleep and remove the trickle charger when you wake up to go to work.

Your problem may not be the battery alone, sounds like your bike charging system (alternator/rectifier) not charging. Your best solution is to charge up yr current battery & see wat happen over the next few days, if flat again then it is your charging system. If u change to a new battery & yr charging system dun charge u r back to square 1.

hmm. what if the charging system is the problem. how much would it cost?

If looking for a battery charger, buy one which is auto charge, meaning when batt is full, it will charge anymore.

An usual bike's battery is rated 12V. when bike is running, voltmeter shows 14V to 14.8V ---- means battery is charging, right?

My question is, can i charge my 12V battery if i have an adapter which outputs 17V (unsure of the current rating) when plugged into our household socket?

take note, the battery is sitting in my room, already taken out from bike

No more regrets.

using a output of 17v to charge a 12v can melt the cables or cause fire. An electrical overload is a situation where the wiring to or within a machine or system is subjected to a greater electric current load than it was designed to carry, leading to excessive heating of the wires and a possibility of fire. This excessive current load can be a result of electrical insulation failure ( a short circuit) or human error.

You need a lead acid automatic charger. Your 17V power supply will over charged the batt & will explode, very danger. :(

Sorry, out of curiosity, can a charger save a completely flat battery? How about an almost flat battery if you detect it in time with a voltmeter? I'm thinking of bringing one of these on tours as backup power alternative in the event of faulty rectifier/coil. Is this idea feasible?

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

Still can save flat battery but the ability to hold the charge for a long time will diminish. From there, have to recondition the battery so that the ability to hold charge will be restored.

Edited to add: I brought the XS3600 for my North Thailand trip. If I didn't bring it along, I can't charge the battery for my riding buddy at night in the guest house.
