cool mate :thumb: - did yr buddy bike had the CTEK additional charging cord attached.

His bike is a scooter, so he has a set of made shift jumper cables with him. So I put the flat battery in my saddlebag and from there, connect the jumper cables to my Harley battery by parallel connection. Charge as we ride.

BTW got a customer jus walk in today - he mentioned tt when his car has a flat battery ( bec he left a light on ) the battery shop told him cannot be charge so he spend 100++ for a new battery. But after reading more - he felt he was cheated & decide to buy a battery charger (cheaper) .... happens all the time .... 80% of the time a flat battery can be charged up again .....

I have a 12V battery that is totally flat caused by a faulty rectifier.

It reads 4 point something volts. May I know if my battery can be saved? because whenever i charge it, it will go to 12.6V. However, the voltage cannot be held for long. after 5 mins w/o even using it, it just drops to 4.0++ volt. will reconditioning help?

Its a brand new Japanese Branded battery!

No more regrets.

If it is brand new & not faulty - yes it can be recondition back to life mate .... btw how did u charge the flat battery ? how long ? why stop when it is reading 12.6v ( it may not be fully charged ) ?? :cheeky:

charge for 1 hour plus. finally it reaches 12.6V. den reading was constant for abt 5 mins b4 dropping down to 4V++

i will find a day and place the battery at your place to have it reconditioned and charged for 24 hrs :D  :cheeky: :) :p :thumb:

Is it just connecting the jumper cable or jump start cable from your HD to the flat batt. Red to red, black to back. Thats it?

Or is it more complicated than that and a picture would demonstrate better?

I presume my s4 can do the same

awaiting your reply then i go try and post up.

Thanks for sharing this idea.

For those who're going to remove or install batteries, no matter how many batteries are you going to remove or connect from whatever type of vehicle, I can share a golden rule.

"Never ever leave the vehicle negative cable connected alone on the battery at all times."

In other words, remove the vehicle negative cable first and connect the vehicle negative cable last.

I learnt this the hard way when I just started working as a mechanic many years ago. My seniors really know how to tekan new comers.

Yeap - always remove the negative (black) cable 1st bec NEG is grounded to the bike/car body. So if u start to remove the positive (red) cable 1st & accidentally touches any part of the bike/car wif yr tools - u will get a short-circuit................

I didn't end up taking a pic but I can verbally explain.

For my Northern Thailand trip, my friend always have a DIY jumper cable 'cos his bike is a scooter, so can't push start. The only way is to jump start.

We connected the cables by parallel. The discharged battery in my right saddlebag with the jumper cable connected to the battery.

Harley battery are at least 19Ah. Mine's about 21Ah, so it's not a problem charging his battery on the move. Somemore I re-conditioned it with the XS7000 a few days before I left for the trip.

Thankfully he has a spare battery to standby. If not, sure have to ride up and down to charge the battery or find a petrol station or 7-11 to plug in the XS3600.......

I dunno if having a same or lower ampere rating can charge another battery. I presume it can be done but at a longer time.

I tried both ways earlier. Both ways the second terminal creates small spark whenever the terminal is connected to the batt, be it positive first or negative first.

And i see already i dun dare to touch the points with my hands. Use the screw driver to poke and prod. Also gets the job done :cheeky:

You tried with a motorbike? Wah... Dun do that to your bike. But so long you dun touch your vehicle body. you'll be OK. But in order to be safe to be just in case, just don't leave the -ve on the battery alone.

The effects will be amplified if you are working on a bus which has 2 batteries (24V)

:giddy:

As sometimes I'm lazy to remove the whole battery, I always remove the -ve terminal and wrap it up with proper insulation whenever I want to prevent hard starting if the vehicle is gonna stuck in the workshop for days. I dunwan to borrow another customer's vehicle to sombong. When working with the batteries, sometimes when you're tightening the terminal clamp, you can accidently short the battery by touching the other terminal at the same time. Do watch out.

Batteries are always favourite prank tools for new comers.:faint:

what I do to isolate the contact of the jumper cables is to connect both terminals to a brochure so that the clips dun come into contact.

The amperage of the battery isn't enough to kill you. Somemore I think you're not barefooted, right?

heh heh.. bo pian.. never learn physics or electricals before. Ownself try loh.. Heng i never kenna.

Maybe next time i handle the positive terminal with my bare hands and negative without skin contact on the terminal after that. Reverse order for removing batt. :cheeky:

i saw the spark i :giddy:

I know. Not good for the electrical system 'cos of the electrical surge but you'll be ok. You'll live to ride another day
