hihi there, though im still a p-plater, i would like to share my experience.

When checking the bikes, everything else is minor, engine is upmost piority imo.

For me i check for signs of recent fall (footpeg scratched, new mirrors, missaligned fork).

Then check engine oil for signs of crank case crack (can overhaul if crack). I check the oil make sure its black. If yellow i willl be suspicious. If milky walk away immediately.

The rest like headlights, fairing conditions, brakes and tires condition are actually just bargaining chips to me. Without a good engine, your ride will be quite unpleasant with frequent hiccups.

And if you are not urgent to get a bike, wait till p-plate expire can get the premium off insurance. $100 or $150 i think.

And if getting the ride short term (1year then upgrade), u need consider how much u going to invest in the bike before selling it (new paint works? overhaul engine? change piston?)

just my 2cents :cheeky:

Most of the Sp is on road for the past few yrs.. If u r getting a sp, I suggest u get a experience rider with u for viewing.. Getting from a private buyer is def better than shop.. Can save lots of $$ if buying from private.. And also private seller normally take good care of their on bike.. Just my 2cents worth of advice..

hmm.. another point to add.

take a look at the end can of the bike. ensure no gaps etc. and signs of fall. eg: long constant scratches. =)

but to some extend, some riders might change the ermm "housing" of the end can.

and another advice, check yr meters! frm my experience when i bought my SP, i was too engross on the feeling of the bike that i never notice that my meters aint working. except the RPM meter. hahahaks. anyways, good luck in search of yr bike. =)

i would recommend u go to asphoon. price might be a bit higher but their bike can be trusted. try asphoon toh guan. bring experienced friends to go but sometimes even experienced riders might also dunno some internal problems which maybe need to ride the bike up too 100km then can be detected :) best is to get those without mods like open stomach or end can. When buying a bike from shop, if u c anything rusty or like the condition very bad, try ask them to change! make sure that there is nothing that is really in bad condition. also try neg the price too, bring someone who knows how to bargain well! haha

open stomach should be okay. if you dont do so, pipe will get stuck, no power. 2nd hand bike sure got problem 1. old parts, you will have to change 1 by 1 as day goes by. bike shop dont change everything new for a 2nd hand bike. make sure all the fairings are in good condition.

i have to agree with kenNUFC. some problems can only be deteced by travelling over 100km/h.

and i aslo agree to ben2306.

conclusion, if u cant get the engine right, the least is the outlook u go for.

hope u get what i mean. =)
