got money and time then ok loh. me is no money and time, so 1 week go once or twice that type de. get class 3 also no money to buy car.

 

so now hope can get my bike license and buy bike instead. but everyday also rain until flood here and there. i dont dare to book for lesson... later waste money. >.

 

Actually no matter the weather the lessons still go on. So it doesn't really matter. I kena 4.01 in the thunderstrom before. Figure 8 lesson. Scared the hell out of us while doing figure 8 and crank course in the heavy rain lol

That time he asked regarding "how to buy a bike", not "how to check the bike before buying"...so I just tell him the steps in "purchasing a bike".

If I missed out any steps on how to purchase a bike, maybe you could add in?

 

For checking the bike, I recommended him to bring it to a bike shop to get a mech to check on the bike to be on the safe side. And gave him a thread to read up on. It's easy on the purchasing, but I never said getting a good bike was.

So when you purchase your bike, you just went to a bike shop and let the mech check? Last time i used to think that mech only help those regular customers

honestly, i never trust a mech to check if that bike comes from his shop.. and i dun think all mech are literate in this IT world of ours..

 

I'd rather get to know someone or get someone i know who has ridden the bike who know abt the bike, or a friend or relative who's been in the bikers world to assess the bike i'm gg to buy.. and research thru the owners of the bike, if possible. If it comes from the bikeshop and it's second hand, i will NEVER trust the mech to brainwash me that its a beautifully done up bike unless i know that mech personally. True mech is not a salesperson, but he might very well get some bit of commission or a praise to his promotion or pay rise if he can sell the bike.

 

if it's private seller, and you know a mech, then by all means, get a mech to assess, BUT will the owner allow you to bring.. the owner will most likely bring you as a pillion to the bike he patronize and you get the mech who is most likely the one who has been doing the bike, and it would be i think accurate, unless the owner has paid the mech in the shop some $$ to cover some faults.. idk.. i mean there're still crooked ppl who just cant be trusted..

Are you asking about "purchasing a bike" now, or "selecting a good bike"?

Purchasing is just talking about $$ terms...which is easy if you have $$.

Picking a good bike is the hard part.

So far...mechanics I gone to help me check my bike for free. But even if there is a price for it, it's better in the long term as they will know what problem the bike has.

 

To add on to what I said in my previous posts, look look see see around more, don't settle just for the outlook, when you find one which you're really interested in, request to the seller to get it checked at a bike shop...if the seller rejects, you more or less should know what kind of condition his bike is in. Of course...all these is for private seller.

 

I was like you, new to bikes and no friends who rides bike...so was "conned" by the seller's sweet words and gotten myself a bad condition bike. All these I experienced before, don't want you repeat my mistakes. At the very least, get it checked by bike shop.

I didnt have many personal friends who were in the bikers world when i took my license.. neither do i have relatives who knows much about bikes, except for my cousin who are not exactly very close or even talking to start with. i made friends along the way, in SBF, through the neighbourhood, or just accidentally.. and get some facts out of casual chats of my intention to get a said bike.

 

There're certain bikes that not many mechanic know how to or the stuff about the bike.. so it depends what bike u are getting as well.. If you're getting a make that is like everywhere and nothing too fancy, then any mech will do. But if you're getting a rare find, it's wise to get the insights from someone who rides the bike and knows the loopholes..

 

No friends doesn't mean you cant make friends.
