Me back from Thailand Bangkok on 02-01-2008, woo~hoo~ still surviving~ :cheeky:

Travelled north & back takes more than 4000km. The MT-01 never give me any major problem~ only the rear number-plate broke off, may be the vibration is just too much~ and now my Mt is freaking dirty~

:btw: saw a MT-01 from Thailand, surprise to me. Friendly people all over Thailand :thumb:

Hi Fai,

regarding your trip to Thai, did the small fuel tank give any complications on refuelling?

Able to give at least 200km before reserve on highway riding?

Thanks.

Hi GiantValk,

The small fuel tank didn't bother me much~ but may make your biker friends stop more due to the need of more refuel interval.

Full tank I can travel up to 240km before refuelling, yet in Thailand, some kiosk may be out of 95 or close shop, so try to pump whenever you find petrol kiosk when MT hits 150km above.

Other than that, the MT-01 never give any major problem at all, Travel to Bangkok & back 4,000+km still running strong. :thumb:

Hi Fai,

How's the heat at the pillion seat after mounting your GPR exhausts? Bearable?

There used to be one MT-01 which I always see at Punggol 21. Wonder who it belongs to, or used to belong to.

Thanks for the reply on the Thai trip. I am considering either a CB1300, XJR1300 or an MT. Ever went to Hong Leong when it was just released, and got the sales guy to fire it up for me. Great bass from the stock pipes.

Not quite worried with the availability of 95ron in Thai since compression for this engine is really low. Many Road Star Warrior riders in U.S. routinely feed their bikes 92ron or lower.

Keep in touch!

The heat from the exhaust is bearable, but the pipe sounds funny to me thought

Its got a funny name too: poppy pipes o_O

But overall I am happy with it~ more bassy & poppy sound when open throttle & close throttle.

How abut B-King~? Sure a powerful street fighter & eye-catcher

MT-01 is an air cool V-twin compare to CB or XJR in-line 4, so you may find the MT has more vibration.

Nah, might as well the Busa rather than the B King. Frankly speaking, I feel that the BK's mufflers are a bit too much.

Good mufflers should look somewhat like the Kawa 08 Z1000, or the soon-to-be 1800 V Max. But nothing beats an old school 4-2-2 exhaust, like the old CB series.

The CB13 is water cooled though, only the XJR13 and GSX14 are still oil cooled.

I really think you should make a short clip with your MT-01's engine running, upload on youtube and then hyperlink here. Then we will really know how "funny" the GPRs are.

Cheers.

Yeah~ the exhaust of the BK -- some people like it, some don't...

I still find it ok through magazine only, never had close encounter with one thought, wonder waiting at traffic light side by side for the light to turn green, would be an eye-catcher to others & pressure to me, haha~

Is the new CB13 having only a single exhaust~? I once remember seeing it @ Looi's motor, looks big.

I am not good at doing video thingy~

HAPPENED TO ME ONCE, I USED THE FINEST SAND PAPER, SAND IT DOWN WITH WATER, THATS ALL. COLOUR OF THE HEADER WILL CHANGE ABIT BUT ONCE U START THE BIKE AND THE HEADER GETS HOT, COLOUR WILL GO BACK TO NORMAL.

Bro Ah Fai,

I am considering a second hand MT-01 that is on the mkt now.

And I do have some Q for u. How u can answer them for me.

Any idea what is the OTR costfor MT-01 without insurance? Different people seems to quote diff price.

U mentioned u rode to bkk, did u pack stuff with u? and if u did how did u attached it to your bike?

From all the posting, it seems this bike is not well sorted out, especially the ealry model. Should I still go for the secondhand unit or should I go for somethign else?

As for the vibration, is it as bad as HD?

TQ

Hi dospalmas,

Cool that you consider MT-01 to be your next ride :p

for 2nd-hand model you most probably will be getting 2005 model around S$16,000

But if you consider a brand new, below is a rough gauge

New MT-01 (general price)

Machine Price: S$20,840.00

Road Tax: S$361 (6 months)

IU: S$160

COE: current COE rate - S$951

plus register fees... may be around S$150

rough OTR without insurance: S$22,462 +/-

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

About my trip to Bangkok, yes I did pack some stuff

Just a small bag on the pillion seat, I didn't take much things as I can buy things over Bangkok

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i5/Fai_photo/Thailandtrip1.jpg

Beware, I use bungy-rope to hold the bag in space, but may scratch the side exhaust cover, so I use some tissue for protection

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i5/Fai_photo/Thailandtrip64.jpg

Then realise that some part of my bag is being cook by the MT exhaust, so if you wanna tie some baggage beside, take note things don't get too near the rear exhaust

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i5/Fai_photo/Thailandtrip6.jpg

----------------------------------------------------------------------

IMO, this bike I consider is rare, consider from MT-brothers stating that there are only 12 models running in Singapore.. If you want heavy road presence or unqiue sound system, this bike is for you.

Yet I guess if you want smooth riding naked bike & able to have some speed-fun in NSHW, there are more better choice, Yamaha FZ1 & Kawasaki Z1000 are popular choices..

The feeling of sitting on MT-01 is like sitting on OSIM chair, but is not as shaky as the Harley. Both are ok to me.

Hope this will help :p
