Anyone know how much is it to install an alarm system? My bike is S4,Vtec II.

Wanted to buy alarm system costing around $55 but was quoted $40 to install it as the mechanic claimed that for electric start bikes,it's more expensive compared to kick start bikes.

All comments and honest replies is greatly aprreciated.I felt that it is a little bit too expensive even though i know for doing electical stuffs or wiring can be costly. But this is my first road bike so rather new in this.

Any recommendations is also greatly appreciate!:)

If I am not wrong Spec II already got immobilizer? If yes, then I dont think it can connect the remote start function. Then the alarm installation is gonna be very ezy liao. You can even do it on your own actually. I am sure the alarm wiring is quite standard. Forget abt the rest of the color, just look for color Red, Black & yellow. Connect the red to your battery positive terminal, your balck to negative terminal. Connect the yellow wire to your signal light wiring, one for the left & the other for the right side. That's it. That's all u need for your spec II which already hv factory fitted immobilizer. :thumb:

thanks alot

anyways i connected the alarm alrd

but i am not too sure on how to connect it to the signal lights

i mean which wires i am supposed to connect the wires from the alarm to the signal lights

i see 3 different wires from the signal lights

Posted

well for signals lights can be like this,if u look at ur manuel,u find for the signal lights wirings, for the left and right, and after u find it locate it in ur bike wiring, and just tap from the positive terminal of the signal lights wiring respectivitly for left and right.

Btw some alarms negative termial uses green wires.

But than i just wanted the alarm, the signal flashing not tt impt to me bah...so i just connect the +,- and mount the alarm, overall easy just that need to extend some wires.

and if u 1 good remote range try leaving abit of the antena peeking out of the bike, best tape the antena to the bike....

well i have a question,is the sirens usually water proof?

kakakakak i DIY install, cost was some free time and little bit of brain work, result=happy hahahahaha

overall happy with the setup of the alarm.....hahahaha my neighbour bike a gixxer600 with yoshi pass by my bike alarm will start the warning tone...

1 tip, before acutually mounting, test where the alarm unit best works....i tink best places is under seat side panel or front glove box for vespas...

and mount the things first before starting the wirings....

Hi, just installed an alarm system on my CB400 Spec III which i bought from MO 1 year back. Bought for S$40 and install my own. Its quite simple for mine, cause i only installed alarm w/o the engine start. Mine is 4 cables, 02 x Yellow cable to left/right signel light, black and red cable to battery +/-. :)

lol,same...i also dunno why,i just dun like to install the auto start and the immobilser....scared ltr alarm malfunction half way riding ,ltr the alarm keeps immobilising the engine...:giddy:

Haha, i never install the remote start cause i dono how to. The wiring is too complicated. I think the alarm itself is sufficient enough, what for remote start when you have a key to start? When riding on road when ppl never see the key, thought u steal the bike. lol...

hahahah true....i scared if u riding keyless u put the keyfob in ur pocket rite...scarly press the off button while riding:giddy:

Ah I tried to install the alarm myself and ended up blowing the 10A fuse :cheeky:

I connected red wire to battery +, black wire to battery -, 2 yellow wires to signal lights, and connect the speaker to the main unit. There is also one more black wire which I connected to chassis. There are other wires for the remote start which I did not connect and left them tied up in rubber band. Anyone can tell me where I went wrong? My alarm is Steelmate 883 by the way :)

Was there a ground wire?cus mine have negtive and another ground wire also...Or did some other wires short, the wires which u did not connect, were the wire ends exposed?...

Mmmm i don't think theres a fuse leh,cus the main unit has a relay built in,and also the alarm itself does not consume so much current....

Mayb try disconnect your yellow cables to the signal light, and try arm it and set it off...see if it works...at times the connection to the signal light might be wrong.

I most bike shops shld be able to...

Yup the problem was with the connection of the yellow wires to the signal lights. The fuse on the red wire (to battery +) stops blowing after i disconnect the yellow wires from the signal lights.

Need to figure out what is wrong with this yellow connection but at least my alarm is working now :cheeky:

thats good bro.

Guess mayB the connection might have been on the wrong terminal.

At times theres a built in relay in the alarm,so guess if the wiring was wrong it might have gave way...

But to make things easier for me,i chose not to connect the signal lights, instead i have some Leds in my headlight,so just connect it to the singal light connection in the alarm,so the head light will just blink....hahahah

i think shld be ok since,Led consume very little current.

The 2 yellow wire, 1 to connect to +ve wire of right signal, 1 to connect to +ve wire of left signal.

yup that's what i did... dunno why fuse keeps blowing. Maybe I will try connecting one yellow wire first to see whether the fuse will blow. After i go and get some more fuses :cheeky:

start a diy session on alarm fixing...:thumb:

DIY is kind of easy 1...the big prob will be laying out the wiring, getting access to the compartments,eg remove parts to get access to the signal light wiring ....some bikes placing the main unit is abt tough...like Vespa...need to wire to the batt and mount it beside the batt...
