Firstly shims are cheap, it's the labour that cost..

The other time i did valve clearance for my 750,i paid $512 inclusive of all 16 shims, new belray coolant, 4 denso iridium plugs and labour..Which i have factor in a few gasket here and there which i got on my own while the shop got some for me..

totally agree. i've just did mine recently and paid around 300 plus too.

im surprised how durable these honda shims are. at 70+k i only changed 4 shims out of the 16.

When touring, its usually the rider that give way first before the bike itself.

got box got tour.

guys,

seeing as i just took over this bike, i would like to service it to ensure that its in proper running order. what kind of servicing should i be doing?

am i missing anything out here?

change of spark plug,

change of engine oil,

change of oil filter,

change of coolant,

change or clean air filter,

check brake fluid level,

check brake pad wear,

check chain wear,

is there anything else that would be important to check?

i was reading the forums, and i came across the term, "engine flush" what does that do? and do i need to do that as well?

hope some kind soul can enlighten me as i only want the best for my 1000rr!!

Overall still depend your mileage. If not too high then i dont think you need to do so much. Maybe you told us the mileage then we can suggest to you.

any idea how much would the valve clearance cost? and how long?

Mostly valve clearance is done when you hit abt 40k km. If not no need to do so.

i totally agree with you! the bike is totally awesome!

as for servicing, i just wanted to know where you guys go for changing of spark plug, engine oil, and all that stuff.

first time owning a 4 stroke bike, so not very sure on what do i need to service for the bike. how often should the engine oil be changed?

As for me...my filter will service every 15k, Engine oil will be 5-6k (but depend on your riding style) then for spark plug i will replace every 20k. But my mech did even tell me spark plug can use up to 40k. As for spark plug issue is depend on yourself.

my milage is currently at 67k. and i have no idea if the previous owner did the servicing at all. are there any signs or problems that occur if the valve clearance is off??

when your bike is cold. you will hear some ticking sound from your engine.

i think if im not wrong. your bike will feel a bit weak when you whack then engine.

if in doubt. check with a mech. BUT. be careful. some places might say this;

"Wah, have to open up your engine and check first, maybe because of your bike mileage, must do top overhaul"

so get a few opinions first.

When touring, its usually the rider that give way first before the bike itself.

RR8 now can hit 67k??? mine was just 18k... i think previous owner always go touring. In this case if want to be safe then you can get you mech to check wether need to do the clearance.
