This is the 2nd week of my studies at Ngee Ann Poly. Really regret. Felt so cheated. I was from ITE last time they say only study 2.5 yrs now become 3 yrs.

I feel like quitting and taking private diploma course, since I had intended to take private degree as well (even if I had poly dip). No point staying and wasting my time right? Somemore private dip cheaper. And I can go work at the same time, experience + income.

Time is precious cos I'm already 24 this yr.

It's not a matter of easy or not... they try to cheat me 1/2 yr of my life by saying if your GPA >3.5 only need to study 2.5 yr that's y I enrolled. But now change their story. My GPA 4.0 nothing they can say wad. And I think it's not worth it staying there too long if I'm going to end up with a private degree anyway.

See FOXY even you know that the old system they straight away put you in 2nd yr, meaning only study 2 yrs right. When they change to 2.5yrs I abit sian already. Now they say 3yrs!!

I really need some good inputs now... the private institutes are closing their applications soon. I don't know whether it'll be a wise choice to withdrawal from poly.

I think u shouldnt withdraw from poly. Which private institute are u planning on going if u take up one? The 3 years in Poly was the best 3 years of my life! Would do it all over again if i had to.

From what I see (personal experience coz I know someone who went to Auston to do a business and marketing diploma) private schools are so much more expensive and the exams brush the surface of what was taught in Poly.

BTW I was from Ngee Ann also. They have a habit of changing what they say. I failed one module in year 1 and because of that i was lagging behind 1 module in year 2. I managed to take 1 extra module and caught up with my friends by 3rd year because I wanted to go on 6 mths attachment so badly. One of the lecturers who was in charge of the industrial attachment (let's call her Ms Y ) mentioned to me in year 2 that I could go for 6 mths attachment if I can catch up with my friends.

When the letter came and told me to go for 2 mths, I brought it up to another lecturer. This lecturer told me I got to go 2 mths attachment. I got fed up and felt cheated also... complained higher and higher... then this Ms Y still said she never told me I can go for 6 mths attachment. She made me look like the liar and didnt admit she probably gave me the wrong info. Eventually after loads of appeal letters, they let me go for 6 mths attachment.

If you know who's the person who gave you the info that you need to study 2.5 years, you should complain. If they gave you the wrong info and impression, then it's not your fault. They should honour their word! I remember writing to the school director or principal... it was a lady at that time.

Anyway I hope u reconsider and dont think of withdrawing from Poly.

I guess both of us took the same LONG path. I'm 26 this year and just graduated from NYP. I too entered poly with an ITE (Higher Nitec) cert with allows me direct 2nd year entry.

Therefore i spent only 2 years in my poly career. Getting a private dip won't get you an entry to local Uni's. Unless you prefer to get private Uni, otherwise, we have to go through local Poly's. And local poly is much cheaper than private ones.

The point is, you already made it this far, it shows that you have more than what it takes to finish this course. I think you know how hard for people as of our age to still studying and compete with fellow schoolmates of younger age. In Ite, you already able to get a GPA of 4.0, Nitec i suppose since you didnt get the direct 2nd year entry.

To get GPA 4.0, its not easy, keep up the good work and carry on studying hard. If you need someone to talk to, you can always call me (PM for number) =D I'm from ITE too, not good in language( its just me perhaps, not all ite students =x ).

My present situation, completed dip, going to NUS/NTU now. August starts school.

I wish you best of luck, and everyone here too.

Higher Nitec or Nitec. FYI, I'm the only one from Tamp ITE(electronics engineering) who entered NYP in year 2005-2007. Many applicants with high GPA's didn't get a seat even with their outstanding performances. My point is, perhaps very good results in ITE, doesnt mean poly HAS to accept us or promise us anything. I think with good grades, they will consider every student in a case by case basis, perhaps they think its more beneficial for you to go through poly for the 3 years. No offense though. I'm an ITE student and always proud of it ^^

Bah, forgot to mention some stuffs. Younger classmates of mine (former ite) has just ORD and they just joined NYP, new system i suppose? They just start school for 1-2week. Direct 2nd year. Perhaps only NP has a new system? Otherwise, NYP still remains the same bah.

Thanks for all your comments. I went to check with NYP last Dec and they said no such thing as module exemption, not to mention 2nd year direct!! Know what I'm thinking? Maybe only engineering course can go 2nd yr direct??

I don't understand y u all say private ex??? I go MDIS website they say dip course only $3,400++ nia right??

Any hidden costs???

I've never tried MDIs but maybe exam fees and membership fees....

For my case, doing ACCA, I have to pay £62 (correct me if I am wrong) for the ACCA yearly membership to UK and $80 (I think) to ICPAS. The school I enrolled at say ACCA very cheap to study... they never told me need to pay exam fees also. Exam fees ranges in price also. Could pay around £52 per module. :giddy: After all the currency conversion, you can cry.

I'm bugged by the sucky sociality that I am living in right now.

Did you mean society?

If so, you never say exactly what's so sucky about it.
