theres tons of diagrams just for stebel horns in SBF and alot of threads about it bro.

Or can google already got alot of diagrams.

What you have to take note when DIY wiring urself, would be the relay outputs.make sure u get them correct. :cheeky:

any links??

Can you image this...

Here you are swerving left to right, trying to squeeze your way thru the horrid jam....

Suddenly, a car came cutting across your lane.

Without hesitation, you honk your "AIR-HORN" on your bike in feet of anger for cutting across you without signalling....

Then, the unfortunate happens, your bike dies off in the middle of the road.

You forgot to put the Relays on...

Hmmm....

my bike have hella horns installed but my gf dun find it very loud.. she said my previous stebel magnum was better..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.
Posted

I did some comparison and I find hella twin tone horn is louder than magnum..

Hella will draw more current.... that why one of bro the voltage dropped to 10.4v..something....hella is more bmw like.....

it's advisable to use a relay and fuse for protection.... which had been done in my altis....can't wait to get my c2b..and release my bike from layup to fix the hella as well....hhheeeeeeee

From Honda's Phantom to ..................

Clearing each stage at SSDC and BBDC for bike license was fun !!!

I'm using PIAA horns...so far happy with the performance. Need 2 to stablise the sound, if not the sound produced not nice.

An added bonus is that it does not draw out high currents like hella or magnum. If install in cars, its juz plug and play.

Like I always say, the item is as good as what you paid for.

the oem horn switch is designed and build for the current drawn by a oem horn..

without the relay, the switch or the wire will burn off after some time of usage..

Can't quite remember the exact price. Its above $50 but under $60. This is the exact one that I bought. One is 500Hz the other is 400Hz. The pic shows both 500Hz.

it's higher-end car range product... they have headlights bulbs to..

anyway about whether tp will catch or not... i every horn my air horn in front of tp... scenario is i was on the 2nd lane... beside me on the first lane was a car... tp was behind the car... so when the car saw the tp... i think he was a bit speed so neva check blind spot n straight away cut into my lane.. so hold my horn until that idiotic driver realise me... the tp din stop me or anything... he jus rode up to the idiotic driver stare at him n rode off...

Relays are needed, to prevent your wires and switch from frying due to the amount of current drawn when you press your horn. Direct replacement works, but you might end up frying your wires and switch, which IMO, is not worth it.

I DIY installed my Stebel TM80 horns, took about 2 hours cause I read the diagram wrongly. It's an improvement over the standard horn, sounds more like a car now. :cheeky:

Sorry...muz correct your term about RELAYs....

From Wikipedia,

A relay is an electrical switch that opens and closes under the control of another electrical circuit.

It is alright not to use relay and tap directly. The sound will be like some sissy (very soft). This is the logic. Current flows to your battery -> wires which may power up your headlights + other components -> then reach the horn.....so less current means softer sound.

In here, the relay allows your switch(which now has less current due to the above description), which will activate the relay switch (the battery power to horn - uses more current), to sound the horn. Anyway, Install anything electrical on bike, dun forget fuses....its very important to include those in.

If you wan to tap directly from battery, you will need to run separate wires from new horn switch, to horns and battery. Please note, wire thickness does play apart due to the amount of current it can hold.

Hopefully my explanation is correct.

yr explanation is abit haywire..

ask yrself, wat control the current flow in the wire?

wat is power? wat is current?? y the spec of a device normally is shown as **V**W??

the explanation of current distribution are totally wrong.. the amount of current going thru a node is the same as wat going out..

current value over a wire in a complicated diagram will change if there is a change in the one of the existing component..

:)

Mine too layman hahahha. I dunno how to explain in engineering terms coz not grad from engineering school. Anyway I know that Current is measured in Ampheres and not Volt or Wattage.

I still think it is possible to use horns without the need of relay. Provided that all the specs of the devices are met, like the wire, switch and the equipment power requirements. Once the requirements are met, it should not burn the wires or equipment.

So if the amphere of a horn is high, and the wires are thin, confirm it needs more current, causing burnt wires. Because the wires cannot handle the current load. Can confirm this?

the problem is the voltage require is the same but not power..

therefore in order for the horn to hav that power wif fixed voltage(potential difference), the current will hav to increase to meet that demand.. P = VI

Can I confirm the following with this example Horn require (12V, 8A, 100W), Battery is 12V, and Wire used only rated for 3A. Can current flow to activate the horn? Will this cause any thing on the line to be faulty? And one more thing, how does electrical overload occurs? (Off topic, juz wanna know)

I am not saying that I am right/wrong. Juz need clarification coz I may be wrong and would like to learn from this.

Please clarify with examples. So that other may learn from this too.
