Anyone here ever replaced their fuel pipes ? it's indicated in the manual as to be replaced every year.

What are the fuel pipes? the rubber fuel line or the super hard metallic thin pipes that are at the front of the engine ?

And what are the oil cooler pipes ? The engine mounting silent blocks ?

imho its refering to the rubber hose line

wow. been busy lately. no time to online.. on monday my ns went out of fuel.. lucky there's reserve.. managed to get 342km on main tank with 10litres.. filled up to full(but not siao full) of 9.56litres. gona change oil filter, eng oil and tyres this sat.

btw bro @mjbs64, my ns is red not blue. hahahhaa!

oooppps... alamak paisey :shy:

I have!! it's $1.. it's still the grey rubber hose with metal clips at both ends..

I'm not sure abut the other 2 items.. the old fuel pipe will harden after long run.. I'm not sure it there is any baffling though..

The term is called Creep .. once the rubber material has reached its maximum elasticity stage, it will deform permanently and eventually can crack/tear

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creep_(deformation)

we used this terminology in Archery too ..... kekekeke

I see, thanks and thanks to @mjbs64 for the input as well. Never thought of checking the rigidity of the line. @mjbs64, you changed them already ? Your bike is going to its 5th year soon, currently more than 4 years right ? Ever looked at these things:

- oil cooler pipes

- master cylinder cup & dust seal

- Caliper dust seal

- cylinder head de-carbonising (does the engine main block need to be opened for this ?

- changed your rear brake hose ? Is that the long slim metal rod that goes to the drum assembly ?

Great info. Thanks for doing the legwork calling around. Or is that arm work?

I just got back from checking out a few places. Stopped at MAH and checked out their Givi boxes, but it's all direct from Italy and bloody expensive. Some nice e35? side panniers, but they quoted 635. Way too much. I saw the Givi Trekker, but not worth the price.

I then ventured down the road to BikeLab and asked to see their Givi boxes from Malaysia. The guy had no clue what I was talking about. He finally clued in and said that I was thinking about Lab at Kelantan Lane. Said something about two brothers, one with Regina and one with Lab.

So I took a ride down there, and only saw Regina, no Lab to be found. So I asked Regina, and they said it was Lab. And the other brother is now only in Export? Totally confused. Anyways, I checked out their boxes and they have the standard Givi 45L quoted 115. They had a Givi 47L, but the old lady quoted 220. I assume it must be the Italian made version? Also saw the Shad 48L, quoted 160.

For side, they have the usual e21's, 160 I think for non-removable, 240 for removable. But the side boxes he showed were no-name ones, so not sure if they were going to switch out Givi with no-name.

So the quote from Regina for removable e-21 sides, and Givi 45 top box, 355 with install.

I called up UM and they quoted me 400 for same. Figure I'll go with them as don't really trust Regina for modding the rack UM put on. But most likely will take the Shad 48L top box, as looks much nicer and better quality than malaysia made Givi.

LAB = Lim Ah Boy

the shop name is called Lim Ah Boy and the boss is called Ah Boy...

LAB is behind regina...

go down the street a little more and turn right at the clinic there...

there you will see LAB or Lim Ah Boy...

no name ones are not from givi...

givi e21s are about $180 at LAB...

cause from the way you ask them i suspect they are trying to "chop" you...

if you are available this weekend, maybe some of us can follow you down to do some "talking"...

their prices are known to be flexible...

boxes are easily fixed on by yourself...

both side and top...

a piece of advise before you head to regina or LAB...

make sure you know what you are looking for if not they will take the chance to "chop" you...

but they are one of the shops that sells lots of accessories...

@Bodhi Bum, Planning to ride to Melaka some time soon. Waiting for the sun to make a more permanent apparence. If so, I'll make sure to go to the port/ferry spot and ask around. See what I can dig up.

Something else I want to try is ride to mersing, leave the bike there, and go to Tioman (mostly for diving but just chilling on the beach works too.). Heard a few guys did it before, with Japanese bikes so probably more prone to be stolen than our Pulsars. Heard any experiences on your end?

If some of you guys are keen, we could organise a ride and WE on Tioman.. just gotta go recce see who there could keep our bikes if we're a group.

That's funny you mention the ride to Mersing, then ferry it to Tioman. Before I came to Singapore I spent many an hour on Google Earth imagining the weekend rides I could take from Singapore. Finishing work on a Friday night, hopping on the bike and riding up to Mersing, park the bike and catch the ferry to Tioman for a weekend of diving was top on the list. Over two years later, sad to say I haven't done it yet. Partly because my last bike was a piece of crap that would have rattled apart before it made it there, or rattled me apart more likely. But mostly because my job is a whole lot busier than I had expected.

I'd be up for a ride up and WE on Tioman. But can't commit much in advance due to the job. Melaka ride would be cool too. Doesn't look too far, nice easy half day ride. I drove by car to Port Dickson just past Melaka, and the highways are perfect.

Yeah, I was in the right place. LAB is across from the food center with all the bikes in front, beside the Alpinestar jacket shop. Regina is on Jelan Besar, but LAB is down Kelantan Lane and take a right. But I think Regina owns LAB now, there was Regina stickers on the old boxes there and the guy said Regina is one and the same. Not sure, but I walked around and no other bike shops.

He quoted me right for the Givi 45L, but he was chopping when he said the e21 side box was 240 because it was removable. 160 if it wasn't removable. Problem is UM wants 400 all in, which is far above the price.

You say you can install yourself, ok for the top box. But how do you install yourself the e21 side boxes when the rack has to be modded for that? That must involve welding, no? So you have no choice but to get UM to do it?

U need a bracket to attach it to the rack.

If u use the sb1000 or sb2000 rack the e21 is removable. If they mounted the e21 directly to the rack and drill holes into the e21 and screw it to the rack then its fixed.

Dont ever say Regina bought over Lab. Haha

You will start a war.

Posted

Ok, so my chosen config is a Shad 48L top box. With e21 side boxes on a sb1000 or sb2000 rack so they're removable. What would you price that setup with install? And would I be best to ask that price with install from LAB, or from UM? Or elsewhere?

Regina are very interesting when it comes to ang mohs. I have never seen a bikeshop flip their prices when they see westerns as much as them. Chiap Lee maybe, but you can talk to them, Regina they give you that no-no kind of face. Never bought a single thing from them. If I have to, I ask a local to get it from me. Worlds apart.

LAB on the other hand are more keen to give you the right price when you take a bit of time to chat, ask, and not be intimated by Ah Boy's hoarse voice while he answers 3 phones at the same time

I'll catch up with my friend who leaves his bike at mersing. Get all the details from him. No need to plan too long in advance. Couple of days for me is enough notice. Once I have all the details will do one ride to Mersing to have a closer look at where the bike can be left. Once that's clear, we can just decide on the week itself to go spend the WE on Tioman if the weather is nice. Lodging pricings can't be that much higher during this season if we decide last minute. Haven't been diving in such a long time.. I probably need to go do some pool session to refresh my memory haha.. :cheeky:

No idea for Shad. For givi or kappa you can visit Advertisers Board and look under Unique Motors. They have a price list in there.

LAB quoted me 160 for the Shad 48L. I asked David at UM to check if he can get same, if so will get him to install tmw. Shad 48 much nicer than Givi 45. Looks much better, and just that much bigger, but makes a big difference.

Sure bodhi. Whatever suits you.

Anyway if any pulsarians want the kappa and e21s lemme know. Self collect from my place.

Decided to get HB xplorer for myself. So these boxes wont be used.

Both with two keys. Whatsapp me for prices.

I walked into Regina last month and asked the price of a full faced helmut. He looked me up and down, and came out with 700. I laughed and walked out. But made the mistake of not changing after work. Today I came home, changed and went to Lab. Got quoted the right prices mostly as I told him what price I was expecting. May just go back tomorrow and get them to install now that Mobienerd told me about the sb1000/sb2000 rack for the e21. I thought they would have to weld the side box rack on to the top box rack, so was thinking it would be better to get UM do that. But if its just a bracket with the side racks, then no big deal. Can get LAB to do that.

If you're taking a ride up to Mersing to check it out let me know. I'll ride along. Nice day ride. Hopefully can find some good secure place to leave the bikes. As for weekends in Tioman, I'm free most weekends, as long as no crisis is going on at work. I used to be hardcore into diving. These days just prefer chilled out weekend on the beach, with the occasional dive. Tioman is perfect for that I've heard.

Posted

Costing for sb1000 and 2000 may differ by $10-20. Google it to know the difference in design. I prefer the full frame rather than U frame.

E21 there is either Kappa or Givi. Both are same except branding. Kappa is supposedly slightly cheaper.

As alvin mentioned we have experienced pricing from 160 to 210 depending on combination or rack and box.

Posted

@Bodhi_Bum, why don't you tak over Mobilenerd's E21, it's the same model you want no ? Might be cheaper than getting'em brand new.. And boxes are bound to suffer during touring so might as well save a bit on their price. Mobilenerd, you posted photos already ?

Will keep you posted for the mersing ride, and yes Tioman is great for that chilled out kinda WE with no frills, and to enjoy some simple open water level type of diving to get back into it :)

Sorry I have no clue about the exact cost of the E21 but many here have owned them so maybe they can give you an idea.
