Yeah, I was in the right place. LAB is across from the food center with all the bikes in front, beside the Alpinestar jacket shop. Regina is on Jelan Besar, but LAB is down Kelantan Lane and take a right. But I think Regina owns LAB now, there was Regina stickers on the old boxes there and the guy said Regina is one and the same. Not sure, but I walked around and no other bike shops.

He quoted me right for the Givi 45L, but he was chopping when he said the e21 side box was 240 because it was removable. 160 if it wasn't removable. Problem is UM wants 400 all in, which is far above the price.

You say you can install yourself, ok for the top box. But how do you install yourself the e21 side boxes when the rack has to be modded for that? That must involve welding, no? So you have no choice but to get UM to do it?

Ok, so my chosen config is a Shad 48L top box. With e21 side boxes on a sb1000 or sb2000 rack so they're removable. What would you price that setup with install? And would I be best to ask that price with install from LAB, or from UM? Or elsewhere?

LAB quoted me 160 for the Shad 48L. I asked David at UM to check if he can get same, if so will get him to install tmw. Shad 48 much nicer than Givi 45. Looks much better, and just that much bigger, but makes a big difference.

LAB and regina is "family"...

brothers actually...

when i mention earlier needing to mod rack, that is for other boxes(h&b,pelicans etc)...

since now we know UM is using HR4/ZR4 top box rack, fixing of the SB1000/SB2000 racks is a piece of cake...

without the top box rack then will need some metal work to fix the side box racks...

if you willing it takes about max 1-1 1/2hr or less to mount all 3 boxes...

if you do at LAB, be prepared to wait very long...

their workshop is some distance away from their shop...

my own experience, i don't like their workmanship...

for boxes, i drive there, buy and then head home and fix up myself....

go to chiong aik for Shad 48L $150 flat...

just cross the road from regina and go into powersports motor(under chiong aik also, the shop with lots of helmets displayed outside)...

they selling the shad 48L...

So if I wanted to get the UM installed rack modded for an h&b box, would that be a major undertaking?

Thanks for the that info. I'm going to look at the h&b top box tmw, and side box if they have. If not, will go to Chiong Ail for the Shad 48L, and pick up the e21s and SB1000 or 2000 rack. Sounds like it's easy enough to do myself with the UM installed rack. May be a weekend project to learn.

with the base plate for top box it should be quite straight forward...

maybe i mislead you in the sense that when i say mod i meant for side boxes...

top boxs are generally more straight forward to fix...

for h&b side boxes, be prepared to fork out way more than the top box and price is before rack...

likely for a pair of junior 30L box will be $200+-$300+ for 1 side...

so a pair will be around $500+ - $600+ before adding the rack and mod...

Ok, sounds like the h&b top box is reasonable cost wise and will work with the existing rack. And looks so great it's worth the acceptable extra expense. h&b side boxes are way to expensive for the boxes, rack and mod, so not an option. So will just consider h&b xplorer top box and Givi e21 side boxes, as they are cheap and the 1000/2000 racks fit easily with the existing top rack.

Thanks for all the info and advice guys. Much appreciated.

Xplorer with E21??? Nooooo!! haha kidding.

Whatever rocks your boat. Have fun!

FYI stocks aren't in yet for Xplorer. Heard it was coming in end-Jan 2013. So you might make do with the E21 first and go with the xPlorer later. You need to pick up the universal baseplate. Cost $120. You can fix that to your Givi rack now and await the arrival of the xplorer.

Bro mobilenerd...can reserve the side boxes for me? Wanna whatsapp u but u say after 10pm cannot. Hehe. I'll whatsapp u in the morning.

Sure. No worries. Racks for E21 and the E21 are all dismantled. Sitting in my storeroom. Lemme know when you wanna collect and we can take it from there.

+1 for the no to xplorer + e21 combo :p

But then again, I know first hand that when you travel, bike esthetics don't matter, what matters is efficiency of storage :)

Just got the NS back from UM, had the 500km oil and filter change done. Plus picked up some BMW grips and had those put on. Much more 'sticky' feeling and easier to grip, feels like it absorbs the vibrations a bit better. The original grips felt cheap and slippery. These you won't slip on the gas, especially when wearing gloves.

Turned out the rack came in early, as it was supposed to be in last week of Jan. Got it put on, and looks not too bad. It's only a top box rack, as expected. They said they could mod it for side boxes, but I'll take a look around at possible top and side boxes and decide on what to put on this week.

Isn't the first service at 1,000KM? I'm only at 300+km but if ok, would rather do the first service tomorrow as I would be busy in the next few weeks. Can UM fit the rack and box straight away or do we have to order the box in advance?

travelled abt 370Kms and comes the light of low fuel, and still there are 2 bars on the fuel meter.

so i continue to travelled till i reached shell petrol kiosk near my place and pump 10L again at 415Kms, still the 2 bars in on the meter???

petrol use 95ron. distance travelled everyday abt 90km-100km.

hi there, 1st 2 servicing are 500kms, and 2000kms the 3rd time onwards..

use normal 10/40w engine oil for the 1st 2 time to run in, and mayb could change to a better one after that.

Use mineral oil or semi synthetic oil until 5000kms is recommended. It's not the grade as much as the type of oil that is important.

Some riders say you can go Fully Synthetic after 3000kms.

As for riders who buy a bike brand new, and this applies to the NS:

- after 70-100 kms, change the EO + Filter (EO = mineral or semi synthetic)

- at 450-500kms, change again the EO + Filter (EO mineral or semi synth.)

- after that you can either follow the manual (change EO at 5000, and EO filter at 10000) or change at shorter intervals. I would change both every 2500-3000 kms.

- don't switch to fully synthetic until your reach at least 3000kms. Recommended is 5000kms.

Just follow this and your bike will be trouble free on the long run.

As you can see, it's not an exact science, and different riders have different views on this.

If you've owned a new bike or overhauled bike before, you already know what to do.

This is just to give the new riders a guide to follow.
