@BoDhi_Bum, definitely go with Battlaxe. Used those to ride in Vietnam and Laos. Fantastic grip on sandy dusty let's-try-not-to-ride-off-the-cliff roads. Excellent grip under the rain and on tarmac as well - perfect for those Thai twisty roads. You'll go in and out of carparks in SG like you're riding with glue on the rubber. Never skid again. 140 on the NS will be definitely OK. Let us know the prices for a pair, yeah ?

For the helmet, something like this does it for me, with a simple lock :

Pass it trough the helmet (Full Face) and the frame or box rack etc. Parked inside I hang the helmet on the pillion's foot rest (left side), doesn't attract attention. Parked outside the helmet is on the seat if the forecast says rain.

Which BT Battalax you change to? I was at UM early today and wanted the Bridgestone BT39s. But they didn't have the rear 140/70. All they had was 150/70, but even the UM guys said 150 is probably too wide. Even though someone here on the board already did the 150, I was scared to chance it.

So he tried to sell me the BT 090, but I checked the reviews and everyone says it's good for track, but not so good for road, not sticky enough for singapore wet roads.

But as I was getting on to leave, he came out and said he just confirmed a new shipment of Bridgestone BT39's are coming in next week. So I reserved a 140/70 rear and 100/80 front.

$305 - these are getting more expensive by the bloody minute. Guys, remember when we used to buy a pair of BTs for less than $200 ?

Still, looks like UM has again the best prices in town for these tyres :thumb:

Thanks Romi for the feedback on price !

Price UM quoted for the BT39 pair was 295 from the book. Don't know if there would be install labour cost on top of that. Both boardies here who posted their Bridgestone tire change at UM quoted 305 I think, so maybe that's the cost with labour?

UM guy tried to tell me the BT39s were too sticky, and they wear too fast. Tried to say the BT090 was more firm and lasts longer, but all I read said they're track tires. I'd rather have no worries zipping around Singapore in the rain, and wet car parks. 95 percent of my riding is in SG, so I'd rather have tires I that keep me safe in the rain.

I'm going to get a helmet lock installed at Universal I think. Pretty cheap and it saves the hassle of carrying a chain and lock around.

I ride with IRC right now. Couldn't find battlax in Vientiane so they got me IRC from accross the Thai border. Being used to BT it took me a couple of rides in the rain to get used to IRC tyres.

BT is great for newbie riders as it feels like there's tiny hands that grab the road even when you brake or corner like a pingouin. (Just imagine it and you'll get what I mean :p..).

IRC are still great for the price: absolutely flawless on dirt, and in carparks. After they break-in, they're good in the rain as well but need a bit getting used to and carefulness at the beginning.

They also seem to wear out slower than BT tyres.

If you ask me, I'd put more money and get BT tyres without hesitation. If I don't have the money I'd go for Shinko as I didn't hear any issues from those using them in the rain.

N anyone has experience with irc or tt900? These r more affordable.

im currently using tt900, for both front and rear. works well but this tyres can't corner, just less slippery compared to the MRF i was using previously:cheeky:

@magnitude: the Pulsar 200NS ? It's still very new to SG so reports on FC are just starting to appear. So far we have seen 40-43km/L, but it's the running in period.

Pulsar 180 UG1 has the best FC out of all models if you can get your hands on one that's still running great.

P180-200 usually varies from 35-40km/L. Some P200 owners go above 42km/L. But 35-38 km/L is a good average figure.

1st tank ran 376km with 2 bars remaining and filled 9.573 liters. This is with a daily load of 150KG (i.e. me)!

The fuel gauge seems to start falling only after 200km, but after that one bar every 20km.

Got the first servicing done and rack mounted. After that went around looking for boxes and impulsively bought this V47.

The mechanic mentioned that the box bracket is extended and may not be that strong. He advised not loading too heavy stuff and remind any pillion not to lean too much on the box.

Also got a helmet lock installed at $18

BTW, anyone bought bike accessories at China website before? I'm looking at some saddle bags that are just a fraction of the prices here. E.g. :

Only fear is the shipping cost would kill me :(

Should be $85 for the rack (Kappa) at UM. $480 for the box plus universal base plate (they need to use this as the normal Givi plate cannot fit on the Kappa rack) at Mah Motors.

Posted

Careful when you lift your bike on main stand. Try not to grab the rack as it is weak. Tried that today and the part where it connects to the metal bracket moved. So avoid doing that.

I also find this rack too tall. Gonna source for alternative racks which are lower and I may even remove my pillion hand rails. So that the profile of the box is nicer. Now its just too tall for my liking.

gave a thumbs up to a yellow 200ns on PIE this morning...

with rack, kappa box, rider wearing white long sleev office wear...

grey/silver helmet with black tinted visor...

happen to be any of the NS riders here?
