Haha i like pulsar design also.. lols.. anyway 2nd hand at UM safer right i heard they will repair first or something before selling?

actually depends. UM is quite safe lah. they will definitely touch up and replace those wear and tear parts. however, you need to actually ride out for some distance before you can fully know whether the bike is 100%.

lets say you bought 2nd hand from UM and while riding home or the day after, u experience some problem with your bike, just bring it back to them and they should repair for u FOC. check with UM whether they are willing to offer you this deal. if not at most dun buy loh :)

but i think running the bike in stationary position doesn't provide a load to the engine, thus not that effective in discerning problems. unless the engine super chui even without load also can hear problem.. then the bike should cost no more than $500 :)

an easier way to check whether your bike has been in an accident before is to look at the fork sideways, just make sure the fork is 100% in line. freehand dangerous for new riders wo.. not to mention pulsar wobbles like crazy when freehand :sian:

also, look for paint patches that is slightly different in colour. and handle bar joints do not have discoloration as that usually means someone has bent the handlebar back due to accident. these are checks on top of the obvious scratches and dents la..

heres a buying guide. but take everything with a pinch of salt la :thumb:

for pulsar, first hand n 2nd hand makes little diff. just 1 or 2 yrs apart. ive seen a first hand pulsar getting overhauled at UM before. dat was way back. quite a shock to me. i will not be surprised if the're bikes being overhauled right now at UM.

yes bro, it's true there are new bikes too seen overhauled but chances are do we see more new bike in the shop or older bike in the shop ovehauled.

the right word it's fated and lucky ... be it brand new bike or older bike.

Chances are, new bike have more advantages when comes to pros and cons.

When mentioning "overhauled" too are we refering to within warranty limit or after?

If we fall sick, we should ask ourself what have we done before hand.

Did we overwork ourself? ... did we not enough rest? ... did we eat wrong food? ... did we drink sufficient water per day? ...

Similar to our bike, especially new bike since you mentioned "need to overhauled"... Did we follow the guidelines in the first place

1) did we do proper running in

2) did we do regular maintenance check up

3) did we ride with care and safe

4) did we control our attitude/temper on the road

5) did we drink enough water

6) did we pray for safe riding

By chance if you did all, happens your bike's fails you, then it's FATED to be that way.

Still my stand after my experiences with new stuff and older stuff ...

new bike still have more advantages and value for the money than older bike when comes to long run ...

A rule of thumb ..... Follow the manual guidelines and ride with safe and good attitude .. be it new bike or older bike... you will be safe than sorry ..my 2 cents only ...

and

I'm still praying for the best with my bike condition and performance...

till present with God blessing, my p200 is not a perfect bike but it's still in tip top condition.

For those looking to buy used bikes, here's another pretty comprehensive guide to add on to the one loti-lang has posted.

it might be too comprehensive, in fact, so just use the good n important bits, helps if you have some bike knowledge of the parts n stuff. maybe just pay attention to the brakes/steering/wheels firstly.

comes with some photos as examples of what to look out for etc.

http://www.clarity.net/~adam/buying-bike.html

consulted it while shopping for my 2A bike, helped me identify 2 lemons which i didn't buy. one was head bearing / brake disc / wheel kaput. the other was chain / head bearing / possible engine prob.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

actually those parts are not too ex to replace. you can use that knowledge to hack off a bit from the selling price :)

exactomundo, i tried doing that, but the sellers weren't nego/flexible about that, haha. myabe i wasn't convincing enough.

the brake disc one was abit goner la i think, wheel wasn't spinning straight when you look at it from front. and the other one had a darned rattly engine, was a s4, didn't feel like finding out if it was valve clearance or timing chain.

whatcha riding now?

juz tell him u din check blind spot. i wun pay a cent. claim whole door? dun think possible juz go take a picture of the scratch as proof. if he claim u n over claim then give the picture. his premium will go up oso NCD oso back to 0% so he wun claim one.

i wanted to argue at first. but the situation is like this. im actually on his left but around his boot area at first, so just when we're filtering out, his front door hit my crash bar. by right i shldnt be on his left cos its supposed to be a one lane. so if he argues it with the police, i wld lose out? hai partly is my friend influence me to pay him the 100 bucks. cos he says it will be troublesome to go thru all the insurance ****. though i was thinking i might get away without paying anything. either way, the 100 bucks is gone.
