Daelim Daystar 125cc

Hello guys,

 

I am thinking of buying my first big bike - i live in Cyprus in Europe.

 

I was thinking buying a used Shadow bike, however now that i saw the Daystar, i am thinking about buying Daelim. The power is a bit lower than what i wanted - just wanted a 250cc, as i think the 125 cc is a bit low, so i want to ask the owners somethings before i buy.

 

In the town definitely i will not go above 80km/h thus it will be ok it power. But what about highways, and with another person on the bike?

If let's say gets 100-110 km/h with another person at the back, for how long can it be driven at such a pace? Will there be a problem to ride the bike for 1-2 hours continuously?

 

Also the other thing, is that will the bike be ok to go up in the mountains with another person at the back? The top speed is about 50-60 KM/h in such roads, however i dont want it to go only 20-30 km/h in upwards sloping roads. Has anyone tried to go up in the mountains?

 

Unfortunately i cannot find any Daelim users that sell their bike, thus i would have to buy a new one.

 

The other thing, is that in the official site, i saw one red/white colour, but in the brochure they dont have such a colour. Do you know why?

 

I would so much appreciate any help , as in my country i will be only the 2nd owner of Daystar i think !!!

I have been searching around forums that people have driven Daelims and in here seem to be the most of Daelim users.

 

But i can't get any help from anyone. Does anyone know users in here to ask directly?

No problem for usage in Town. As for highways at 110km/h + with a pillion, it might be abit hard on the engine, but the engine is hardy, so you can push it all the way. Won't be a problem. As for riding 1 to 2 hours straight, not too sure about that. Living in Singapore, to get from 1 end to the other, takes less than an hour.

 

Going up slope wise, never really tried, as there's no mountains in Singapore. However, with an extra person behind, going up the slope at 40+km/h won't be a problem.

 

Colour combination wise, I'm not too sure. By the way, if you're getting a new bike, its 150cc now, no longer the 125cc.

I'd say since you have no class limitation of bikes, get a Shadow cos it has a V twin. Not that anything bad about the Daystar, but since the comparison options are the mentioned 2, then Shadow. You won't have to worry about the questions, just ride

Because it is my first bike, i dont want something big. However the 125cc is a bit the worrying thing for me. i am just worrying about wanting to go up in the mountains and the bike not being able to go…. A 250cc would be better...

 

However from the reviews I have been reading, 100 km/h is not bad. I will wait for about a month for a bike to come at the store that imports them, and will try it. Unfortunately there isnt a bike there to ride...

I think maybe money is the concern. Since he's comparing a 1st hand Daystar to a 2nd hand Shadow, which could mean Daystar could be cheaper as compared to Shadow there.

 

So his other concern would probably be, paying roughly the same price for new parts, never everything, compared to 2nd hand which might have problems.

Money is the concern, having in mind that it is my first bike, and as my first bike i want something easy to learn. When i become totally .. relaxed with bikes, i will get probably my dream bike :-)

 

So why giving the extra money on a Honda Shadow?

 

Just to compare talking in dollar amounts (very roughly - however used for both the same exchange rate)

 

New Honda Shadow 600cc - about $9.500

 

New Daelim - 125cc - about $4.000

 

So i am thinking: - should i be relaxed in the following years, by buying a new bike, for 9500 and thus having it for some years in the future, or just starting up with a small bike for 4000 and upgrading later ?

dude, i jus sold my daystar shown in my avatar. in spore, they are selling e 150cc now. if u wan to climb e mountains wif a pillion, get a shadow.

is ur price shown in SING dollars? judging by e price, i rather u get e shadow.

In my honest opinion, go for the Shadow. If you're going to think about upgrading in future, then you are bound to upgrade. You'll ride the Daystar for a year or so, then you'll only think of upgrading again. Save the amount and go straight for the shadow. It'll help you in the long run.

 

Re-selling the Daystar after buyer and getting the Shadow, by the time you count the cost, you're going to lose out more in terms of monetary value.

so i went around after work and found some motorbikes for sale - which are used

 

Honda Shadow 600cc - however with 39,000 km

 

Honda Shadow 750cc - however with 50,000 km

 

Honda Shadow 750cc - however 1998 15,000 km

 

Aquilla GV 650cc - 8,000 km

Buy this and i think you wont need to upgrade anymore

I was wondering up to how many KM should i be concern about a used motorbike...

get shadow dude... trust me..

 

shadow is not fast bike to scare the sh!te out of first timers.

and 4000$ for daelim will be a waste once u get used to it in no time (propably a month or so).

 

$9.500 shadow is worthy investment for a few years.

 

decade old shadows with mileage over 100,000km are running fine (at least here in sg).. so no worries..

Well, i am riding a daystar 125 and if you get a 125, well i think you'd have problems going up hill, let alone a mountain. Although it is a nice bike with great fuel economy, i think a shadow will be a better decision, you won't feel the need to upgrade. As for daystar after a while you might feel it lacks power. especially with a pillion.

 

The daelim agent i go to told me they stopped production of 125 daystars a few years ago, so you might probably get a 150. and the reason you might not find a 150 in red/white any more is that now the newer versions are daystar 150 classic, which doesn't come in red/white colourway, there's black/grey and orange/cream from what i have seen. I've tried a 150, and although you can feel the difference, it is not much.

- 600cc Steed - 1998 - 25,000km

 

It will be a tough choice !

Hi hi...Haris_El...It does look like you have a tough choice in your hands but it also boils down to how much $$$ you are willing to spend also...In terms of performance, both of the bikes due to the small difference in their CC, will actually perform almost the same...I too have this experience and the only way to solve it is to ask yourself, "Which of the two am I confortable with?"... I sure do hope that this will help you and good luck in your purchase...

seems to me after reading your posts that power and maintainence is in the top priority of your list.

 

no bikes will scare the **** out of u if U are in control. key phrase is YOU IN CONTROL. if u got mountains to climb then i believe u need that oopmh. this senerio is exactly like having or not having a condom in your wallet. i'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

 

with this is mind, i think u should jus narrow your choice to the 750 shadows.. if this bike is to last u for a substantial number of years i;m sure u wanna look good riding it..i believe the 750s look alot better and maintainence wise shouldnt be an issue. As for mileage, jus get one which has acceptable mileage and a comfortable price tag. cruisers are known to be sturdy bikes..

How old is the 750 Shadow? 55k mileage is not bad actually. 1998 Steed with 25k seems either under used or the meter has gone one round.

 

My average usage is around 10k for 6 months. My friend's also around the same. And we just go for supper and once a month trips up north. So can use that as a gauge.

 

One way is to break down the mileage and see how much the guy travels in a month, week or day and compare that to your own usage. I find that helps.

The steed, was a taxi driver's and he just wants to sell it because he does not use it do much!

 

So a 50,000km is not much!! I thought it was much, but you know better guys!

 

I am think about the Aquilla with just 8,000km...

 

However i dont want to hurry up and buy one. A couple more weeks...

well when I got my 05 sporty it was slightly below 16k. when I sold it 6 months later it was around 22-24k. My current 03 TDM was just below 38k when I got it. 3 months later it's 45k

 

Calculating Singapore roads, if I go to Malaysia just for some food, gas and fags and back home, It's around 90km already. That's just that journey not counting the daily usuage.

 

Seems all the bikes you see has low mileage anyway so don't have to worry about it. I think you should scout around workshops instead to find a reliable mechanic who can service the bike of your choice.

Guys what do you say about the Aquila 650?

 

I quite like it, and it is only with 8,000km.

 

I dont know if mechanically are good bikes though. This is sold by a private seller, and thus i will take it to the Company that sells them in my country if i proceed.

Hehe... no la i tender already so no more stupid games, i managed to finish my 2A lessons already, but i couldn't book a TP in time as i will be going to NZ for 6 months, so i guess 2A will be Next year?!?! omg, wat a screw up haha, but even if i have 2a now i can wait till class 2 , maybe get a stx? see how la, and now that seems like a long time to go, class 2 in 2010 maybe?

 

Anway, the aquila ? that one also korean bike if i'm not wrong, you might have problems getting parts there i not too sure, but at least take that into consideration, cause i'm sure honda parts will be easier to get. happy hunting!
