Hi

Sorry if I am posting at the wrong place...

I am considering getting a side car, either for my current phantom, or with a second bike. I tried finding information about it... other than knowing that I have to pay for 2 parking lots, and that bike with side car cannot go up the highway, I don't seem to find anything else.

Could anyone help me with more info please? Like any other rules that I need to be aware of? Also the cost and where to get it?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

Daniel

Wonder why cannot go highway.. Take too much space?

Why don't you just get a readily available in the market second hand Honda CG125 with side car one?

Steps to do a proper KNNBCCB with middle finger.

1. Bow down slightly, looking intensely at objective

2. Like a raging bull, hop and jog slowly towards objective

3. Take your left palm and slap it hard on the right mid-arm with a SLAP!

4. With charisma, raise right arm, whilst showing middle finger (with left palm trapped in bend right arm)

5. Shout! KNNBCCB

I moved around some of the shops in Ubi Industrial Estate but don't seem to see any...

Would you know any of the shops that would have the second hand ones?

Thanks.

Didn't want to start a new thread so I dug this up.

So, can anybody tell me if it's legal to have a passenger seated in the sidecar?

I also interested, but unfortunately, the quality of sidecar built in Singapore is nowhere near the European or American standards, they totally reworked your bike's suspension to counter the sidecars' weight for better cornering. Check out my signature, even the bike's wheels are changed to broader types for greater stability, because original tyres are for 2 wheel cornering.

Here, haiz, is just weld or bolt on a few steel bars to the frame and a standard springy suspension on the sidecar wheels. But for 50km/h, Sg standards will have to do. I keeping my diversion for a long long time, hopefully when i grow old, Sg sidecars standard will improve and I'll fit one for grandchildren!!!:cool:

"Motorcycle to fit Sidecar

FEEDBACK NUMBER: 20100926-0038

Please refer to your enquiry of 25 September 2010.

We would like to inform you that a motorcycle to be fitted with a sidecar must comply with the following requirements as stipulated in the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) Rules:

(a) every sidecar fitted to a motorcycle shall be so attached that its wheel is not wholly outside perpendicular planes at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the motorcycle passing through the extreme projecting points in the front and in the rear of the motorcycle;

(b) the overall length of the sidecar shall not exceed 1400 millimetres;

© the overall width of the sidecar measured between the point of its attachment to the motorcycle and the outer face of its tyre shall not exceed 1020 millimetre; and

(d) the overall height of the sidecar shall not exceed 800 millimetres

For motorcycle fitted with sidecar to carry passenger only, the registration fee and road tax will be similar to that of a motorcycle. You are only allowed to carry a maximum of one passenger in the sidecar. No pillion behind the rider is allowed.

For motorcycle fitted with sidecar for the carriage of goods, it shall be classified as goods vehicle. The registration fee, road tax and the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) will be similar to that of a goods vehicle. The sidecar shall be fitted with one or more lids and the permissible payload is 70 kg. Please note that we will require you to show proof of business if you intend to register the motorcycle fitted with sidecar as a goods vehicle.

We would appreciate it if you could provide us with the following information for our evaluation:

(a) the make and model of the motorcycle;

(b) a sketch/drawing endorsed by a Professional Engineer (Mechanical) showing the installation details of the sidecar; and

© Calculations endorsed by a Professional Engineer (Mechanical) showing the maximum speed of the motorcycle fitted with sidecar and the maximum allowable payload of the sidecar

Should you require further clarifications on the registration or technical requirements, please contact Mr Roy Koh at tel: 65535491 or Mr Gunalan at tel: 65535117 respectively.

Yours sincerely

Looks like LTA is open to all sorts of designs, and maybe even over the 50kph speed for class 2b bikes if yours is a class 2A, 2 bike, as long as the PE certified the machine is capable to operate higher speed safely. But its still safer to avoid the expressway for sidecar bikes, it lacks the capabililty to avoid collisions effectively.
