[Technical] Possible Solutions to your Phantom's Problem

nt normal. possible that ur head gasket leaking. i suggest u wash ur engine area to get ride of any grease then monitor for another few days. if it comes back, possibly a leak.

yeah the head gasket gets hardened over time and leak occurs. if you don't change, the leak intensifies and it gets flung all over your legs and pants while u ride and thats hot oil :cheeky:

Thanks! how much will the repair costs?

Never heard of such a case before. Do update us when you find out the root of the problem.

By the way, have you done anything unusual lately? Or changed the things you normally use? example the type/brand of engine oil, air filter, spark plugs?

I live in Thailand and have a Phantom 200 (4+ years now at 68,000 km). The last couple of months I've experienced a big problem starting when the engine is hot. Been looked at by several mechanics. Spark plugs changed, Carburetor cleaned/checked as well as choke, Ignition coil and cap replaced, CDI replaced, new battery. Still very hard to start when hot or will not start at all when hot. Can push start ok. Last thing I've done is carry a spare spark plug. When I had the problem again yesterday, I just popped in the "cold" plug and it started right up. I'm out of ideas and the Thai mechanics seem to be out of ideas.

An update. Changed the coil generator, same problem. Made a trip to Nong Khai and the problem seemed to be getting worse, meaning hot or cold, hard starting. Mechanics in Nong Khai looked at carburetor again and decided that the coil cap on the spark plug was bad. Replaced it. Rode back to Korat, same problems. Looked at again in Korat and now the Phantom lost power at 100 km. Before I could go 120 fairly easily at full throttle. Mechanic found a couple of pinholes in a rubber cup in the carburetor and replaced. Then speed ok, but still hard starting. Was on a short trip and got stuck at a red lite. Engine "died" and could not restart. Decided to try and replace the spark plug with a cold one. In the process of removing the cap, the cap separated in my hands from the coil wire. The Nong Khai mechanics obviously had not secured the cap very well. I cut a piece off the end of the wire and "screwed" the cap back on. This was over a week ago and I've had no problems starting the bike since, hot or cold. Just returned from another trip to Nong Khai (total about 700 km), and no problems. Now I have a bag full of parts and no idea whether they are good or bad. Was the problem the cap all along, or was there more than one problem. Maybe eventually I'll try replacing the parts one by one and see if the problem comes back. Then again, maybe I won't. It's been along time that the Phantom has run this well.

What could be e possible problem for n irregular timing? On idling e timing gets high n low irregularly

Only happens wen jux start up? Sumtym must warm up 1st then it will smooth out. If warm but still erratic, possibly nd to clean/tune carb

4giv me 4 my ignorance but where is e carb located or can it b DIY?

its right behind the engine. its a big silver thing. can be DIY but requires alot of readup and experience. if u are interested, i can go thru dismantling the carb wif u in person. i did alot of readup online plus youtube videos before i tried doing it myself.

yup it's normal for a 6years old bike onwards. Minor wear and tear.

what u can do is to release clutch abit and rev abit. Then u be able to find your "N" Gear.

or u can also replace clutch cable and engine Oil

shud be tail-light bulb lar. cheap cheap. cheaper if u buy n fix urself. Esso got sell. find the one that writes 1157 or 21W/5W. sumting like dat. IIRC $4+ for 2 pieces. can keep as spare. all u need is a philips screwdriver.

Took out my crash bar, the next thing I saw was black oil leaking out from inside the bar :faint: No idea what went wrong.... Shake the bar, oil pours out instead :o

Now, just parked my bike and observed, no sign of oil leak.

Any idea what went wrong?

dear all PKs, i would like to know if using a branded EO can reduce HOT engine "chit chit" noise when throttling? :cheeky:

currently i am using 1L cheap cheap EO cost $7 and not sure if this is the root cause, EO has already run for 900km, gear shifting still smooth & effortless, so i guess the EO is not deteriorate yet.:thumb:

P/S: cold start "tick tick" noise has been solved by replacing Chain Tensioner, now the problem is when engine is warmed up & running hot

thank you for ur attention!:)

hello riders, i know phantom bike got issue with battery. I didnt ride my bike for 1 day and I have difficulty starting the bike this morning. How to prevent this battery issue from happening if I didnt ride bike for few days? If this cannot be fixed, how should i do when i have difficulty starting the bike?

hot engines...can cause expensive failures.....

clean your engine radiator... for a better name...if you have a dirty engine on the outside this forms a barrier to cooling the engine while you ride..

dont over lean your fuel mix....people/mech tend to do this to give you max effieciency in fuel comsumption...but they also givs max expensive engine damage in the long run...

regular ed changes and .high sae no...is good for engine in this respect..

always keep your engine cool...and it will run better....an exhaust wrap can reduec engine heat..

take care in this hot weather.......

i love my ezzyoiler

experience the miracle...

where chain cleaning is history...
